Wii And Wii U Only Account For 1% Of EA Sales

ea

EA has confirmed that both the Wii U and the Wii combined only account for a meagre 1.3 per cent of EA’s software revenues in the last financial quarter.  EA stated in their latest financial report that $695 million was earned from combined sales of console, mobile and PC software. The company says that only $9 million came from Wii and Wii U software. EA has already pretty much abandoned Wii U due to poor sales for games in its franchises.

  • Handhelds (Nintendo and Sony combined) account for 14 per cent of all EA mobile sales.
  • Nintendo handhelds account for 6 per cent of mobile sales, while Sony handhelds account for 8 per cent.
  • Despite its emphasis on mobile gaming, EA’s home console game sales still account for $309 million compared to $75 million mobile sales (though production costs are typically much lower on mobile titles, meaning the potential for profit is higher).
  • PC software earns EA more money than any other format, accounting for 39.4% of all software sales

  1. I am writing this paragraph to inform you that I am writing a paragraph. It will contain content on stuff up for debate. I hope it will be relevant to what we are arguing. Many rebuttals and opposing viewpoints will reflected during this argument. Again, not to be repetitive, not that I am trying to be redundant or anything, and also to avoid repeating myself on the above information, just before the ” Again, not to be repetitive…”, many rebuttals and opposing viewpoints will reflected during this argument. We are having this argument to display the many viewpoints of each individual on the topic of this discussion. This discussion will contain content that is completely subjective. This essay is written in response to show my opinion on the subject of the matter and nothing my. I hope my opinion will bring light down upon you and make you realize things you have never noticed before, until now, after the fact that I am expressing my personal opinion on the subject at hand.

  2. “Handhelds (Nintendo and Sony combined) account for 14 per cent of all EA mobile sales”

which is surprisingly high considering how much support EA gives to either the 3DS or the Vita…

        1. Yeah FiFA, they once release Need for Speed a couple years ago and Madden when it first launch that was one player (no verses), but they decided not again after low sales.

    1. Exactly.

“This year, we’re releasing one game for the 3DS and a port for the Wii U.”

      One year later…

“Due to poor sales on Nintendo consoles, we will no longer support it. Nintendo needs to get their act together.”

      Really, EA?

  3. EA ain’t nothing but money-grubbing whores anyway. Besides, we don’t need the same rehashes of their BS franchises anyway. Madden is BS.

  4. maybe if they released some fucking games for those consoles once in a while

i friggin hate EA, always making their own goddamn reasons to complain (let’s not release any game on Wii and WiiU and then complain because we dont sell many games on thsoe platforms)

  5. *Doesn’t release any good game on Wii U except a late port of NFS Most Wanted*

-> complains about lack of revenue

    1. ^ Exactly! What you put into it is only what you can expect to get out of it. EA is just a scumbag when it comes to Nintendo. Instead of releasing Mass Effect 3, they should have given us the HD trilogy of it and I would have bought the game on day one. Yes the Wii U has a low install base but look at Ubisoft and Activision. They are still taking a risk on it and they have just as much money as EA to risk.

  6. -Handhelds (Nintendo and Sony combined) account for 14 per cent of all EA mobile sales.

-Nintendo handhelds account for 6 per cent of mobile sales, while Sony handhelds account for 8 per cent.

I’m glad you broke it down for me there, Skippy. If one is 8% and the other is 6%, I would have never arrived at a total of 14% without a little help. Very user friendly article. It would be even more helpful if you could tell me what the percentage would be if there were no Nintendo handheld sales for EA at all. I’m terrible with percentilages.

  7. Absolutely no surprise, EA hasn’t been supporting either the Wii or Wii U at all. To be honest I’m surprised it’s over 1%

  8. I wouldn’t even account 1% to be honest. They’re doing nothing for Wii U. They’re clearly not proper video game developers. I won’t be buying much from them in the future. Assholes!

  9. It’s sad what happened to EA. I feel sorry for the developers that have to operate under their lead because SSX3, NFS Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted, Carbon and the original hot prusuit were excellent games. NFS Most wanted 2012 is a good NFS game after so many terrible ones but it’s still not like the “old” ones.

    1. I wouldn’t.
Unless they made it for PS3, but that’s not happening.
I’m not supporting the PS4 until it has gotten a price drop.
I’m not paying upwards of $400 just for prettier graphics and a specs sheet that isn’t going to be seeing its potential used to its utmost for at least a couple of years.
If they made a version of the game for PC or Wii U, though, I’d snap that up in a flash.

      1. Agree, that’s basically all that’s happening with next gen games, better graphics, om cool, my pc can give me ten times better.

    2. I don’t care how much they hate Nintendo. As long as they put it on the Wii U, I’m good. But seriously why put it on the XB1, if they never had any Kingdom Hearts games ever? I would think that they would aim at their fans on PS4 and Wii U.

  10. I’ll hold my hand up, I’m the one that bought NFSMWU…

It’s actually very good… probably because EA only published the game ; )

  11. How many games have they released on Wii U, like two?

FIFA 13 and NFSMWU….. and I’m struggling to name anymore..

      1. Yeah, and the released Mass Effect 3 AFTER the announced the Mass Effect Trilogy for every console, BUT the Wii U. I might have actually bought my first EA game if they brought the trilogy to the Wii U….

        1. I don’t see why EA would want to risk releasing any top quality products on WiiU when
          a. WiiU isn’t selling well
          &
          b. EA games have never sold well/better on any Nintendo console

EA games: challenge everyt–oh, wait. Not enough profit.

            1. Sims 3 did sell better on the Wii vs. PS3/360, but take into account that the game had more exclusives for it than the other two & that a later version was released for the 3DS & not Vita. Also that one title wasn’t enough to push EA’s combined sales for it or Wii U (so far) to a worthy margin.

  12. EA knows that cookie cutter garbage will sell on PS and XB but will not sell well on Nintendo’s systems… If EA put some extra quality control, their games might sell better. Also as many have mentioned, late releases and half a$$ed ports don’t sell well no matter what system you release it on. If they released Mass Effect 3 (alone) for PS4 or XBO for $60 with only graphical upgrades, I guarantee it will sell as good (bad) as the Wii U Mass Effect 3. Now release the trilogy like they did on PS3/360 for $39.99 I guarantee it would sell better. I still do not understand why they did that on the U, release oly part 3 as a full new game price then gave PS3/360 the trilogy for $20 cheaper. They also would never try only a roster upgrade to any sports game on PS/XB like they did to Fifa 14 on 3DS. They probably even complained that Madden didn’t sell well on the 3DS, hello release a football game in March when no one cares about football…..

Also boo friggin hooo you only made 9 MILLION from Nintendo systems…. If 9 Million is nothing to you EA, GIVE IT TOO ME!!!!!

Remember when EA almost went solely with the 3DO system…

  13. I’m afraid these statistics are kind of skewed. EA releases very often on consoles such as the Xbox and PC, and often don’t port to Wii and Wii U. So of course something that doesn’t happen as much doesn’t matter as much in the grand scheme of things! Say that I’m a salesman. I never bring my products to Europe, so logically I wouldn’t sell anything there! Europe isn’t at all useless, it’s that I haven’t made an effort to utilize it!

  14. nintendo doesn’t care about ea and ea doesn’t care about nintendo. if this continues to other 3rd party companies, the wiiu will have one rough lifespan.

      1. Then think of the investors. If I owned EA stock (LMAO) and EA said they didn’t care about an extra 9 million in profit, I’d be pissed!

  15. Well you know what, the kinds of people who buy Wii Us and Wiis don’t give a crap about EA’s games. I don’t know why people use the “Wii U has no 3rd party support, herp derp!!” as a reason for why Nintendo consoles are “bad.” I certainly rarely buy 3rd party games anyway. I have never bought a game by EA in my entire life!

I don’t care about there cheap, lazy, crappy titles. I just want Nintendo brands, Some SEGA, Ubisoft and superhero games like Marvel and DC. I don’t touch anything other than those. 99% of the games I own/play are Nintendo. It’s all I care about and all I ever will care about. I get the feeling that, that goes for a majority of Nintendo fans as well, because 3rd party titles would be selling better if I were wrong.

    1. And this attitude is why a lot of the larger publishers are having a hard time getting behind the Wii U. Wii U owners and Nintendo fans in general don’t care about third party games, or the Wii U at all. These so-called Nintendo supporters don’t even have Wii U’s and the ones who do, don’t support the games that come out. *shrug*

      1. Gamers in general are never interested in an uninteresting game. EA can argue poor demand all they want, indirectly blaming gamers for their inaction, but it’s not like they try that hard to put a really good IP on Nintendo consoles. And no, Mass Effect 3 does not count.

        1. The whole thing, it’s not only EA’s games that aren’t selling well on the Wii U. Even companies who continually support the Wii U (like Ubisoft) are not getting any sales from the system. Games like W101 and Pikmin 3. So, it’s also the gamers’ fault.

          1. Ubisoft are getting amazing attach rates for their games when you consider the install base of the console. If the Wii U had a 70+ million install base like the other two competitors, they’d be pretty damn happy I’d bet.

  16. And EA only has itself to blame for not taking the console seriously. They could have done a lot better. No wonder they got a Golden Poo for the 2nd time in a row, and now they are soon going to get a 3rd Golden Poo.

  17. Fuck EA cookie cutter, lame ass lazy games!!! I’ll be taking my Wii Party U & Wii Fit U for this holiday, thank you very much!

  18. I guess i’m part of that 1%…..I don’t feel bad at all. You reap what u sow. You took support, Wii forgot U existed.

  19. This is the first thread I have ever seen on this site where everyone is a united front, and it is against EA. The last EA games I played were on the PS2, and they were those Harry Potter games, I was 8-10 so I thought they were awesome. Now all I want are Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, and Zelda games. The reason I am yet to play any recent home console games is because the last home console I had was a PS2. I am hoping that KH3 comes to Wii U because I want to only get one system, as I am not made of money. I never had a problem with EA, but I guess that’s because I missed a home console generation. I say home console generation because I have mainly been following Pokemon and Kingdom Hearts since 6th gen, but I hav only had handhelds since then, DS and PSP.

  20. I hate EA and hope they eventually go under, but in the mean time I’m hoping Disney forces then to release the new star wars games on Wii U.

  21. And noone who is a nintendo fan cared cause they released one game for the 3ds and maybe a couple for the wii which were all games nobody cared about
