Online gaming publication IGN has awarded Link’s latest adventure an impressive 9.4, stating that it’s one of the best Zelda games ever created and up there with the classics. The reviewer says that The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds recaptures the spirit of adventure that gave the early games Zelda their potency, but it’s not a total revolution.
What could have been an easy sequel that traded on past glories is instead a compelling argument for digging up the foundations of Zelda and seeing what happens – rather like Wind Waker did 10 years ago. A Link Between Words is not a total revolution, but it may very well be the start of one. I haven’t been so challenged by a Zelda since Ocarina of Time, and rarely have I been so consistently surprised by one.
Between Worlds recaptures the spirit of adventure that gave the early games Zelda their potency, and lays out a vision for Zelda games still to come. It invites them – and us, the long-term fans – to let go of conventions that may have been comforting, but were ultimately holding us back. It’s at once intensely nostalgic and powerfully novel, unpatronising and cerebral. As a Zelda fan, I couldn’t wish for much more.
Thanks, Walter White

Well so IGN sometimes has a good review out there
It’s sitting at 92 on metacritic with many gaming site reviews at 10/10. This game surely seems to deliver quite well!
WHY DO I STILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THIS
The thing I love about this so much is that Ninty has seemed to move away from the path they started down with Skyward Sword. Where SS was painfully linear, LBW tosses linearity aside. They’ve done something different, but not just for the sake of difference, they did it because it was a clever idea.
Only mental people say “Ninty”.
LOL!
I am a bit mental, yes.
Why? I call them ” The big N” There’s nothing wrong with it.
Sometimes ‘Nintendo’ is too many characters for me! I just wanna post what I’ve got to say.
I know! I was talking to the other guy, saying “Ninty” isn’t a bad thing, its a nickname.
Haha I replied to the wrong post.
Why does linear always have to be a bad thing? Go play every 3D zelda before SS. I promise you they’re just as linear. In fact, OoT might be even more linear since its world is smaller and has less side quests.
“Go play”. I don’t know if playing Ocarina for the 20th time will make me see it in a new light. I played every Zelda in order within a year of their release, I don’t need any schooling on Zelda.
And SS is much more linear by far, I promise you. MM and WW had sub questing up the yin yang. You could avoid progressing the story as long as you wanted while you went and found treasure charts or what have you, or you could just plough through it. In Ocarina I always play the last 2 dungeons out of order because I can. In SS you can’t do anything until the game says “go do this”. Ocarina is less linear because there are MORE subquests and at least when you go skultulla hunting you’re not just following a cursor. Look at Fun Fun Island- you can’t do a simple mini game till it wants you to. Zelda games of course all do this to an extent but SS is a thousand times worse.
And this is to say nothing about how much more linear SS is over the original Zelda.
If you don’t mind linearity, fine. That’s a matter of opinion. It’s not what I play Zelda for, but to each his own. But don’t try to tell me SS is less linear than Ocarina, or just about any other Zelda. That’s wrong and you’re just kidding yourself.
Copied from a post I wrote further down:
“I was just disappointed with SS. Graphics were great, controls were mostly great, story was great. But the world was boring and underused, the sub-questing was pointless, and it played like one massive dungeon. It didn’t feel at any point like I was exploring a world, it felt like an obstacle course I had to get through.
But hey, they tried. What matters is that they’re doing something different again. There were quotes here and there from Aonuma saying they were going to keep making Zeldas that follow SS’s new style of layout and progression, so I’m happy they’ve departed from that.”
Can’t wait to play this!
It has been getting generally very high reviews with one or 2 lower than usual.
Game looks awesome, can’t wait.
Destructoid gave a low score..
Low – Medium – High.
Destructoid gave a medium score.
To me i consider it as low, anything under a 7 is BAD and wont get my money, thats my opinion..
So you base your purchases on the lower score from the total of reviewers? You need help fast lol.
Yup! and so far ive played one of the best games in history, all of the top 20 games on gamerankings, let me know if ive misses out on some low rated games that are actually good..lol
Well I’m sorry but your opinion is wrong.
sorry but your take on “OPINIONS” is wrong..
It’s so weird, the way people rate 7 so poorly. 2 through 6 (ie: half the scale) is just redundant, then.
We would all be better off if everything was just a 3-point scale.
That way there would be no confusion.
1= poor
2= Worth having but could be better
3= MUST HAVE. Very few problems and what few there are, aren’t game-breaking.
Agreed. There’s no need to rate levels of terrible-ness. Two games that are not worth playing are simply not worth playing, who cares which is slightly less awful.
i played anything from 10-7 but lower than that i wont even bother with it,
Anyone who let’s a game rating decide if they should buy a game probably is very young…not definitely, but most likely. In my day you just took a chance. We didn’t have this “internet” thing. We had word of mouth at best and some game magazines you had to wait for. And because of this people like me are able to think for themselves when buying a game. It’s like magic!
Yes in my days, we took a chance, but imagine all those shitty games we got to play and hated it, complaining how terrible and regrettable having your parents buying it for you, now we have ratings and we only get to play the best the gaming industry had to offer.
PS: im not young, i started gaming on the NES :)
Totally agree with everything you just wrote!
Gamers that have grown up with the internet aren’t able to make desicions without the help of reviews and scores. And the fact that people consider anythin below a 7 as bad is just idiotic.
Just because a game is a 5 to one person does not mean it can’t be a 10 to another. And to base your own opinion on a review score without ever trying the game yourself is moronic…
I only settle for the best games, i dont have time to play every 5’s, 6’s or 2’s games that comes my way and calling people an idiot or a moron tell me you love wasting money on shit games, the rating system is there for reason, use it and dont waste time with those shitty games.
Oh! and i dont have a lot of free time to play games so i only play games that i know is worth the time and everyone consider good..
Maybe it also coincides with the US’s grading system. Anything under a 70 is failing.
^true haha, i buy games for Ps3, Xbox360 and Wii, so yeah i dont wanna waste money for any games i THINK could be fun but ended up having low scores. Is it that hard to understand the importance of the rating system??
It sounds like it will be refreshing. I have no issue with games being linear, like Skyward Sword which I think is fantastic. However, it’s great to see a Zelda take a different approach that does take it back to where it started. I’m looking forward to it.
Totally agree, I love how variated Zelda games are!
I was just disappointed with SS.
There were quotes here and there from Aonuma saying they were going to keep making Zeldas that follow SS’s new style of layout and progression, so I’m happy they’ve departed from that.
I definitely liked the feel of the game though. Will pick it up again.

Pretty much everyone gave 9/10 or so
And Destructoid gave it a 65/100… I read the critic and it sounds like the guy tried to look for nostalgia while playing it, expecting to find what made him love the Zelda games he played when he was 12. Totally irrelevant.
From what I saw, this Zelda seems to have more heart than a lot of the last years’ Zelda games…
The more I read from Destructoid, the less I take these guys seriously.
Destructed also gave Mario Kart 7 a 5/10.
I know people have their own opinions, but that opinion is just plain wrong.
Mario Kart 7 is tied with Double Dash as best Mario Kart since 64 so yea I certainly won’t take their opinion seriously. Link Between Worlds looks like an amazing game and no review good or bad is gonna change my opinion. Only my own experience of it.
What’s funny is that technically, ALBW allegedly has things of older Zeldas, like being able to start with any dungeon you want, much like the very first Zelda. The reviewer must have started with Ocarina of Time as his first Zelda or something.
Aonuma is probably very happy with the reviews so far. As well he should be. He did a great job. I’m buying this game for myself AND for my niece. : )
I’ll get it too…
The bosses seem to have a challenge to them just like MM did…
It has a 92 on metacritic 0_0 for a game to have higher than an 89 on that site is almost impossible. Can’t wait to play this
Looks like Aonuma did an awesome job with this Zelda.
Can’t wait to play it, only a few days left !!
Walter White
You’re Goddamn right.
Finally preordered it. Was holding out for that chest popping up somewhere in the US to no avail. All that is left is to wait…
now this is the game to get on the 22th. not that other horseshit on the wiiu.
Stop crying you confused Sony fanboy.
speak for yourself, you clueless asswipe.
if youre referring to world, would you still pass on it if it’s as good as galaxy? just wondering..
nope, because it’s not even half as good as galaxy or any other true 3d mario game ever made. one of the worse piece of dog shit mario games ever made is what it is.
You sound so sure of yourself on Mario 3D World being shit, yet you haven’t touched it. Can’t take you seriously. I’ll be getting both World and Between Worlds. It may not be as serious due to the fact that it is multiplayer instead of single player, and not full 3D, but it looks fun as hell. I’ve been wanting a multiplayer 3D Mario since Super Mario 64, so I’m quite happy to give it a chance. The cat suit is kind of kiddy…but I’m 29 and LOVE cats so I l think it’s hilarious…..I also love Sugar Gliders, so I kind of feel like Nintendo is reading my mind somewhat lol. The one thing I don’t like is that stupid dinosaur they show in the videos with the 4 players riding on him. He looks WAY too kiddy and would never have existed in a classic Mario game. I wanna stab that dinosaur lol. Just give me a giant Yoshi damn it. Anyway, you’re obviously not gonna get the game, and probably don’t even have a Wii U from the sounds of it, but if you have any friends who pick it up, at least give it a chance dude.
This guy has a problem with cat! I don’t know why! Still his avatar is a Lion head…
great story. if I ever have time I might read it, cause I’m sure it’s not full of nonsensical crap.
Can i ask you one more question, im curious to know why you hate world so much, i had the same impression when they first revealed it at e3, now its one of my must-buy games this holiday cus it looks like it’ll be fun to play it with my bros and niece..
if it wasn’t aimed so much at diaper wearing kiddies and their moms, I would have played it, but from everything I’ve seen of this thing it’s not a gamer’s game. truth be told, they need to give mario one seriously long hiatus.
Yet every person who’s played it or previewed it loves it and has nothing bad to say about it at all. Also, I don’t think you’ve even tried it…
He hates cats! That’s all! It’s is right! ^^
keep telling yourself that. no one’s stopping you from playing it, guy. it’s not something I will ever play, cause it’s not a game for gamers, but you certainly can play it if you want.
zelda games always get a 9 or above dum ass
You are a horse shit too, but the difference is that nobody likes you near to them…unlike the game. ;-)
way to describe yourself there dumbass retard. self projection won’t do you any good. that name says it all.
Just a kitty with mayor words.
nothing will ever make me understand what the fuck you just wrote, but that’s understandable since you probably don’t have the correct chromosomes.
“Thanks, Walther White”
Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? hahahahaha. Mr White is the man.
You’re Goddamn right.
Awesome! Good reviews mean better sales! :D
I really wish they had done a Wii U version of this to release alongside it.
I’d have gotten both.
Having said that, though, I’ll definitely be getting this game when it drops on the 22nd.
Im glad they did not. I’m still thinking they made a mistake making smash for both wii u and 3ds.
I’m glad to see the positive reviews that the game is getting. Aonuma and his team were surely under a lot of pressure. Not only did they have to create a game that lives up to the Zelda series’ high standards, but they also had to create a worthy follow-up to what many consider the best game in the series. It looks like their hard work has paid off. I can’t wait to play ALBW.
great review, never played a Zelda game before even though I have OoT for 3DS which is still unplayed as of yet, this game has got me excited, love the top down view as it reminds me of one of my fav games of all time: DBZ The Legacy of Goku II. Going to pre-order this now
Got xenoblade bitches for 30$ at gamestop!!!
this after all the IGN Nintendo hate ?
Hmm

The only 3D Zelda easier than Ocarina of Time is Wind Waker (freakin cake walk). I really wish video game pundits could notice more when their words are 100% guided by nostalgia.

Game looks great, going to sell my old, grey XL for the Zelda edition!
Wow, pretty amazing score. After all the hate I’ve heard previously, a bit refreshing to hear that the more general thought is that it’s good.
But what’s even more amazing, is that a 45+ comment arguement didn’t break out over this post, definitely a first. :P
Awkward wording there, heh.
Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are, by far, the easiest Zelda games I’ve played. But despite that, I love both of them. The fact that ALBW offers a good challenge is great news.
who cares how you call them (in a respectful way mind you) since most would agree that nintendo takes too long to spell out and yes i actually did spelled it out but i will shorten the name when i feel lazy. anyways its rare that ign would give nintendo games 9.0+ as that do have some grudge against nintendo. the only zelda game i did not like was zelda II, the rpg like game that if u die, u have to start over and is really hard. though i did manage to get to the first temple boss but i died.
IGNorant, F**k off, Nobody reads you! -_-
ZELDA still one of the best gaming franchise around! ^^
The beginning paragraph right there did me in. Keza, you have me sold.
All you doubters that doubted me when this game was first announced, how does all that crow taste?
