YouTube App Now Available On Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo and Google have finally released the YouTube application for the Nintendo 3DS. The news was originally confirmed in a previous Nintendo Direct presentation, but Nintendo declined to say when it was coming to the handheld format. Well, now it’s here. The download is available in both North America and Europe and is 113 blocks. Go check it out and tell us what you think.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

  1. Sound is most likely gonna be shit in most cases if you’ve got the surround sound setting on. I guess they decided the Wii U YouTube channel didn’t have enough problems.

  2. The search filters seem very buggy to me.

You’d think that Google would’ve debug the app properly when they’ve released it. -.-‘

  3. I just downloaded the YouTube app and gave it a try.
It’s essentially an enhanced 3DS browser, with the added capability of viewing uploaded videos. The video quality is nothing to write home about, but it is to be expected when a video is streamed to a handheld console. It’s a solid app that does the job. Just don’t expect it to beat similar apps on rival smartphones and tablets out of the park.

      1. It damn well better be higher quality after you pay top dollar for that shit.

Does Vita have an unmonitored messaging system that gamers can use to communicate with each other?

  4. The app is slow, the links (Blue Hyphen) were not working too good. Below average video quality, and I hate how its not a muti-task app. Honestly, your better off watching videos on your computer or on your smartphone.

    1. They give it to you for free, and all you do is complain. Geez.
It’s just as good as the Youtube App on my Android phone, and doesn’t suck up precious battery power (You Tube apps are notorious for sucking up battery life), so I can talk on the phone, in an emergency or something.

Yeah, of course it’s better on a computer with a bigger screen, but that’s not the point.

  5. its horrible but maybe this is for young teens and tweens who dont own a smartphone. plus who thought it would be good 3ds does not do hd and its internet is pretty pitiful when its not gaming. although the netflix app on the 3ds is pretty pathetic its been improved through a update maybe this will too.

    1. How do GET the YouTube app? I tried a system update, but it said my 3DS is already up to date. Do I have to go to the eShop?

        1. Yeah, I discovered it right after posting my comment. But darn, it keeps crashing for some reason. But cool to finally be able to watch YouTube videos on my 3DS XL.

  6. I don’t even use the app on Wii U because it automatically lowers the video quality if you have a dip in your connection. I use the browser because it’s way better. I just have to use the embed method because of the “This video is not compatible with your device.” issue.

  7. Pretty sweet, may not ever use it because I have a computer and a phone to watch Youtube on, but it’s nice to know that it’s there.

  8. It sucks IMO. The Wii U one got a little better, as I can connect my phone to it, and play the Youtube videos on my TV.

  9. YouTube has never done a great job at compressing videos….. App feels like some HTML mobile site that is in the form of an app… 3D videos (FPS Mario) isn’t 3D… Basically, you really won’t find yourself ever using it if you have a phone or tablet….

  10. It is quite disappointing, but okay for kids to watch it. Sound quality and video clarity is like “VHS Quality”. No capability to play Youtube 3D.

I guess this is by the limited amount of RAM and the slow 3DS Processor it has right now. Hopefully the update would make it much better use of the 3DS hardware. Streaming 3D videos through 3DS can be difficult since 3D and wifi takes lots of processing power.

  12. Crashes more than durby cars, seriously, I was awe and excited and when downloaded it I thought “they are finally improving the 3ds.” But cant use it for what its ment for. It crashes to 90% of everything I play. I can deal with the low quality, that doesnt bother me. But all it does is crash. Its quite sad, come on google and nintendo… we expected better. How did you seriously beat Sega back in the good ole days?
