Activision Says Call of Duty: Ghosts Reviews Don’t Mirror Fan Appreciation

Activision’s head of publishing Eric Hirshberg says that the disappointing critical response of the recently released Call of Duty Ghosts hasn’t diminished fan appreciation. Hirshberg shrugged off the mediocre reviews of the title and basically said that if the fans enjoy it, then that’s all that matters.

“Well no, obviously not – and obviously I don’t agree with the critics there. I know that Call of Duty’s a polarising franchise with some of the critics, and it’s clear to me that not all the critics like our strategy of making a game every year, but thankfully our fans do.”

“It’s also clear to me that the critical response doesn’t always mirror the fans’ appreciation of a game. We actually do read the critics’ comments and take them into consideration during our creative process, but we just can’t measure ourselves by that yardstick alone.”

    1. Don’t know about that. I like it far more than MW3 and Black Ops, and all of my friends who played it say the same.

Sure, I still prefer the 1st MW and Black Ops II, but the Ghosts universe is an interesting new premise (and a departure from grandiose wars and conspiracy theories, thank God!). I bet it’d be the best since MW1 if they had one more year to polish it, specially now that they needed to make next-gen versions too.

(I have the PS3 version and you can clearly see it has not been optimized at all, at times it look worse than many older CoD games on the same platform).

I’m sure the reviews would be the same even if this was the best CoD ever. At this point most critics are not reviewing the game, they’re reviewing something they’re tired of playing every year. It’s understandable, but it’s hardly fair.

  1. It looks shit, it is shit. ‘fans’ obviously enjoy it because its the same game, same formula that they’ve always enjoyed. they haven’t exactly done anything innovative to this half-assed piece of shit.

    1. It’s fucking sad that you have to try to pretend somebody that you are not. You are probably a nobody and no one would pay attention to you if you were to show your true self. Pathetic.

  2. I was looking at getting the Wii U version of this game, but I have heard it’s pretty bad. I won’t spend my hard earned cash on a game that doesn’t work correctly. If fans aren’t like it on 7th gen, there is no way I would enjoy on an 8th gen.

  3. Lol this game is garbage though. I’ve been buying cod since bo1 and I gotta say, this is one of the worst games I’ve ever played. Bo1 was fantastic! Mw3 was kinda bad, Bo2 was pretty good but Ghosts is just trash! I’ve never regretted buying a cod game up until now. I’m just glad Treyarch will be handling next years game since it’s been made painfully clear that infinity wards can’t make decent Cod games.

  4. No shit you listen to your fans, you brain washed your fans so you justify being yearly thing. Assassins Creed is becoming that aswell.

    1. User reviews don’t really count for much either. Look at any game that tends to rally hateful people around it. What you really need to look at is sales. (Which I honestly don’t know much about)

  5. “and it’s clear to me that not all the critics like our strategy of making a game every year”.

more like “our strategy of making the same game every year”.

  6. cant wait till this garbage drops of the face of the earth. this crappy game pretty much ruined 7th gen. everything has to be cod, we will only buy cod. bullshit is the reason everything is sorta lame.

  7. “We know people don’t like our idea of making the games every year but our fans do”

DUMBASS, THATS THE PROBLEM! Every year a new game is rushed and all we see is just a mask to cover up the last aged paint job of the previous game with nothing fundamentally new or refreshing since COD4, a 2007 game, which that most recent ones still look alike.

And how stupid can you be to state the opposite of the fact. Only dumbass fanboys keep coming back wasting cash on a DLC game for more repetitiveness and more familiar content. If that’s what they call “fans liking our annual release idea”, then that’s the only thing you’re right about. But now its apparent that COD is slowly but surely dying because of this obvious problem you’re overlooking for profit you dumbasses at Activision.

And BTW, how you’re intentionally mistreating the Wii U side of this game by not advertising, launching very few copies and lied about the DLC again, I have one thing to say: *middle finger* Here you go.

  8. They’re in denial. The truth is, both critics and fans are getting tired of the same formula each year. It might be all downhill from here for the CoD series. Kinda like when the Tony Hawk games got worse and worse starting with THUG 2 or American Wasteland.

  9. Oh no. This game was a ruined cost for die hard COD players like my self, I can only speak for me, but i belive BO2 is still the best game out.

MW3- was damn better then gohst, Reaction times diminished sooooooooo much basically if u get shot from behind there is 0% chance you can turn on a person unless they miss every shot.

Also BO2- Took skill because u didnt have the option to camp in one building and pick people off with a couple of bullets like u can and most people do in Ghost. And if u did camp then it was easier to find that person.

well these are my thoughts any one else agrees?
