Tilmen from Nintendomination has uploaded ten minutes of footage for Yoshi’s latest adventure on the Nintendo 3DS, Yoshi’s New Island. Nintendo of America recently announced that the game will be arriving in North America on March 14th. To view the captured footage at 60fps you need to select the option for 2 times speed. Don’t like the soundtrack for this one, like i didn’t like it from the DS one… and why did they keep the baby mario’s cry from the ds instead of using the one from the original Yoshi’s Island?
I like how the bat boss has the exact same battle mechanics as the New Super Mario bosses. Damaged it? It’s gonna spin back and forth on the ground invulnerable for a minute!

Yoshi’s island is one of my all time favorite games. This video got me less excited about it. I know it’s just world 1…but for as many times as this has been ported I expected something else. Maybe all the good stuff comes later. And yeah that cry is awful.

The original was too awesome, even the bosses were fun to beat…

Nintendo didn’t have all too great of Third-Party support on the Wii besides overhauls of Shovelware. There were some good titles, but the Wii survived without general support and I think the Wii U could too if Nintendo stepped it up. Lack of advertisement and barely any AAA titles took a dent into it. It’s great, but has nothing going for it like the Wii did.
Who wants to playing shovel ware though. I would rather have those AAA titles that so often elude Nintendo.

Well, the success of the Wii (without 3rd party support) and the 3DS (without 3rd party support) is proof that the Wii U can be successful also (without 3rd party support.)
The major change that need to be made is for Iwata to be publicly fired at the Super Bowl Halftime Show by Vince McMahon.
But that isn’t going to happen, so we will have to settle for the fact that Nintendo has drastically improved it’s marketing strategy, and has a bunch of proven system-selling games on tap for this year.
Once all of that happens then there will be a better gauge on the Wii U’s future. Personally I think it’s going to be fine. Yeah, the PS4 will pass it but that’s fine. The Wii U doesn’t have to win this gen to be successful. As long as it makes Nintendo money mission accomplished.
Nintendo has never needed 3rd party support to be successful. That is a common fallacy in gaming circles. Their 1st party library is so huge and deep that if they released games from each of there franchises only once they would have more than enough to keep going. The problem the Wii U had last year was that we didn’t see any of that until the fall. The majority if the year the Wii U had next to nothing.
Now the PS4 and XB1 should be able to have a little better game schedule their first year, but it won’t be much better than the Wii U as studios continue to struggle with finances and adapting to the new hardware. That’s one reason why we keep saying all these broken games that need patches.
Well if they released a new Starfox, Metroid or F-Zero, many core gamers(TRUE GAMERS fuck the casuals), would be happy. Nintendo had so much variety back in the day. Nintendo should bring back their long forgotten ips. Not just the 3 I’ve mentioned.
Nintendo has so much potential, and they’re not using it. A pity really.
Agreed on that the Wii U needs Starfox, and Metroid and F-Zero. I don’t share the same viewpoint or choice adjectives on casuals gamers that you do, but I understand what you are saying. Casual gamers are fickle. Gaming is not a part of their everyday lives for the majority of their lives like it is with us the core. Nintendo took a gamble that the would pull the same trick twice with the Wii U and bring in the casual crowd like they did with the Wii and it didn’t work. Now they are scrambling to retool their focus to me more ‘core’ oriented.
3rd party isn’t going to come. That ship has sailed. So now Nintendo needs to focus and acquiring 2nd-party studios and forming another ‘Dream Team’ so that they can make alternatives to the games they aren’t going to get just like they did back in the day as you mentioned. The Wii U need to have it’s own FPS, TPS, fighting game, racing sim, survival-horror. RTS, MMO, action-adventure, etc outside of some of the normal IPs we already expect.
Bring back Wave Race, 1080, and Excitebike. Where the Conduit, Red Steel and No More Heroes? I mean those were 3 brand new CORE IPs on the Wii people forget about. Nintendo has the ability to do some serious damage of they think outside the box. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that they are trying. 2014 will be the year that makes or break the Wii U once and for all.
Red Steel was awesome. Nintendo should definitely make another. You’re right with the 3rd party. Nintendo has lost it’s chance to get their support. However, I think that Retro could be the new “Rare” for Nintendo. They seem capable. Also, if Capcom flops another game or does another dumb business decision, Nintendo might be able to buy them out. Nintendo should have definitely bought Atlus.
All reasons why Iwata need a pink slip and Fils-Aime with him because he is the go-between with the western developers and under his watch Nintendo has lost nearly all of it. It’s not all his fault but he is responsible for some of it.
Retro indeed has become the ‘new’ Rare. The ‘Microsoft’ version. They have become obsessed with Donkey Kong. Until or unless I see something more core related like Raven Blade or Metroid I’m not interested in what they are doing. When the said that they chose DK over Metroid I was all done.
I say let Platinum games take Starfox since they are literally begging to do the game.
Platinum would do wonders on Starfox. The space missions in W101 were simply the best.
I still gotta pick that up. Every time I play the demo it grows on me more and more.
But yeah, they would do an awesome job because they are passionate about it. When developers have passion about a game it shows in the finished product. For instance, from playing Killer Instinct I can tell that Double-Helix were passionate fans of the series. From listening to the music I can tell that Mitch Gordon was also a passionate fan. The game feels like a bunch of US got together and made it. Even though it’s not exactly what I would have done, it has a lot that I didn’t think I would want but enjoy. Even the menu music owns!
So I’m sure Platinum games would break it off if they go to do Starfox. as soon as they finish Bayonetta 2 that needs o be their focus.
Well it just shows that Nintendo’s own stuff is simply not matchable if 3rd party do not develop.
It never has been and there-in lies part of the jealousy that exists towards Nintendo. Despite abandonment from 3rd parties Nintendo still succeeds. One could even argue that Nintendo has had it’s greatest success with the least amount of 3rd party support. The Wii was Nintendo’s best-selling home console to date and 5th best-selling all-time. The DS was Nintendo’s best-selling console period and second-best selling console of all-time. The 3DS is the top-selling console on the market today and fastest-selling console of all-time.
None of these consoles have had great 3rd-party support and with each iteration 3rd-party support had gotten progressively worse. If the Wii U continues to sell well and makes hay in 2014 it will be an open and shut case that Nintendo does not need 3rd party support ever again. We already know that is the case, but publicly it will be a Reynold’s Wrap never to be questioned again by anyone besides idolatrous idiots who have taken fanboydom beyond obsessive levels.
No it doesn’t. No matter what is changed it wont do anything. The Wii U could come with a million dollars, still wont help. Only thing that will help is Smash, Kart, Zelda. But Wii U will be a Gamecube again which isn’t a bad thing.

The only Yoshi’s Island game I’ve played is the original one on Super Nintendo. That game looks like a children’s storybook, but the gameplay can be very challenging. It’s definitely not a kid’s game.
