Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor Won’t Be Coming To Wii U

Lord of the Rings prequel developer Monolith Productions has confirmed via Twitter that Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will not be coming to the Wii U. The action RPG – where you play as a ranger named Talion with wraith-like abilities – is set to come to all other platforms bar from Nintendo’s home console, but there was no reason given either from the developer or publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Monolith Productions also revealed the Middle-earth prequel will not sport multiplayer, and will purely focus on a single-player campaign mode. The developer previously released the MOBA title Guardians of Middle-earth for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in December 2012.

Thanks, Bia

  1. Another cancellation, what else is new. Sold my Wii U last week because it’s officially dead. I’ll skip MK8 since I have MK7 and Smash Bros. will be coming to 3DS too and that’s where all my friends will be playing it so no big loss. Sadly i’ll miss out on 1 good title, the next Zelda game. But it’s not worth owning 1 system for 1 good title.
X looks cool and all but it’s pretty generic, SMT x FE I’ll also miss but oh well.

    1. Smash Bros for the 3ds is going to be lame compared to the console version. I doubt it will hold a candle to the console with a pro controller. X is going to be pretty great as well, if not one of the best games of the year. I’m kind of iffy about MK8, but we will see how that goes. It seems alot like SM3DW, which looked great, but didnt have the most solid gameplay I was expecting.

    2. X is not Generic. So I think you’re going to be sadly mistaken on that one.

Otherwise, have fun on nextBox! I am a little jealous you’ll get games like this one… :(

      1. Exactly! X is defiantly not generic. You want generic, look no farther than Titanfall. X will blow everything in the genre out of the water.

      1. Nah, Monolith Soft is owned by Nintendo. Monolith Productions is a subsidary of Time Warner. Kinda dumb the names are so similar.

    3. You forgot to mention you’re going to miss on Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Yarn Yoshi, the next Metroid game, Hyrule Warriors, and who wants to miss on X, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. and the next and first new Zelda HD?

      Troll harder, please!

  2. This isn’t news…. EVERY 3rd party project is pretty much canceled for the WiiU. Kind of beating a dead horse at this point….
Good thing Nintendo has some good 1st party titles coming in 2014.

  3. Brace yourselves for the “Who cares, this game sucked anyways”. If you think of it ,its like wiiu filters all the “bad” games like The evil within, gta5 and gives us the good games- hot wheels, that barn game etc.

      1. they never said they were going to be doing it for WiiU
if they said that it was coming but not anymore is different
some games skip consoles, but is nothing to rant about

        1. Not really, pretty much everone other 3rd party comes to both xbox and ps. Wiiu is something.. different. Developers treat it as the ouya or something, which is why people like us who own the console get angry when EVERY FREAKIN GAME pretty much skips the wiiu. First party games are great, but there must still be an active 3rd party support for it to be successful . You cant expect nintendo to release games every other month, can you ?

  4. ” X 3rd party game dose not come to the Wii U ” In other words the bear shits in the woods … Wii U owners should expect not to get 3rd party support on the system its worst off than the dreamcast or the gamecube at this point. Atleast those 2 systems got 3rd party games lol. Outside 1st party support the Wii u is a dead platform

mario kart 8 is make or break for the Wii U.

  5. Oh and watch the damage control in this comment section.

“Oh this game sucks i am not interested”
“Oh i only buy 1st party games in nintendo platforms”
“Oh im a casual gamer i only play mario for 10 mins a day”

    1. I think Steam already made this available for pre-order
tbh, I was pretty sure thi was going to skip WiiU

      also, Mario is not casual
Casual is the shit X-Gone is releasing
Even Ps4 is less casual than X-One

    2. How is it damage control, if you don’t care about this game. There are allot of games that are coming out, I don’t give two flying shits about.
I couldn’t even tell you what this game is even about. Bottomline still pissed about Pacman, this don’t care, I am not a computer gamer.

  6. I never really was all that eager to get this game, though its way of reformulating the game based on what you do is kinds cool. Still, seems like an Assassin’s Creed ripoff. Nintendo does need to get their act together though to keep 3rd Party on the system.

    1. I know right. It’s not their fault they don’t want to bring their games on a dead console. Nintendo fanboys will just be fanboys. smh

  7. LOL You Nintendo Faggots miss out on another great game :D XBOX sucks, Wii U sucks. PS4 is the only system worth getting.

        1. How am I a blind Nintendo fag when I love sony just as much as Nintendo? What game is there worth owning on the PS4, its a fact there isn’t one worth owning

        1. Name one time I have, this isn’t damage control, its a fact all 3 of the big consoles don’t have a game worth owning for the console, maybe 3D world for Wii U

  8. From what it looks the game is just trying to stay on last gen tech. Whatever I guess, is this game looking good cause I haven’t kept up with gaming news as of late

    1. I haven’t heard of the game till now, plus never really cared for lord of the rings. Star wars, and harry potter is where i’m mostly at.

          1. I have 3 layers of priority on games
            -Nintendo consoles
            -PC games
            -Ps games

as you can see, good games are multi-platform, or are only on Nintendo or Ps, Xbox owns not so cool exclusives and other of their games get PC release as well

  9. Did this developer ever say that this game was coming to Wii U? Just curious. If not, then the game wasn’t “cancelled”.

  10. The wii u is a PS4 XB1 killer and heres why. It gives nintendo an edge where it had none before. THEY can now develope a cutting edge system with architecture that can run current and future engines with ease and gain support where there was none before unless they just go bankrupt.

      1. not to say that the wii u won’t be able to turn out profitable

the gamecube did, in spite of lackluster sales

they could make an infinite amount of systems like that and never go bankrupt

        1. man, you know the WiiU has sold a lot by now?
it may be selling bad, bt for some reason, they are selling consistently
          If the WiiU was selling 1 week=10k, 2week =100
          that would be a disaster
but the WiiU is selling by now an average of 15k-20k units weekly

              1. they could be if nintendo does indeed go bankrupt… but that’s just a hypothetical situation as of now.. in spite of the wii u disaster the company is in good financial health

        1. ༼ つ◕_◕༽つ STOP BEING STUPID BITCH ༼ つ◕_◕༽つ

༼ つ◕_◕༽つ NO ONE WILL BECAUSE TO OTHER TWO WILL HAVE ALREADY BEEN LONG GONE ༼ つ◕_◕༽つ

  11. well that’s unfortunate.. surprised to see them thinking that a LOTR game port won’t be profitable on the wii u

a port just has to sell upwards of 100k copies to be way up in the black already and a LOTR title is pretty much guaranteed to sell at least that much

  12. I think Nintendo’s gonna have some hard times ahead in terms of the Wii U. I mean, with a small install base a little third party support, they’re going to have to carry the system at least for now. Luckily, this year is gonna be the year to buy a Wii U, since the PS4/Xbone console droughts are on their way, if Nintendo can really push their big games at the right times (X, Super Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart, DK, whatever else is in the works) they could sell quite a few systems. I mean, Mario Kart Wii is still selling incredibly well so its not unlikely that 8 can move units. Though Nintendo has lost quite a bit of the little third party support they had, I feel like they’re taking steps in the right direction (stocks and shtuff). I certainly hope I’m right.

    1. however unlike on the wii which simply had too many constraints for 3rd party devs 3rd party support on the wii u may yet improve once the install base gets bigger

development is fairly straightforward, patches/DLC/updates are no longer an issue f2p is possible aswell, the technical compatibility (DX11 equivalent effects) is there, the eshop is working very well and the performance should be sufficient for most titles aswell, even if visuals have to be toned down somewhat

  13. LMAO the wiinu fanboys are acting like “we have smash bros and mario kart 8”. “smash bros will save the wii u” “shooters sucks cod fanboy” “final fantasy xv sucks just xiii” blah blah blah. mii verse has all the fanboys damage controll.

    1. CoD sucks hard
that’s a fact even other gamers know
FF is no longer the final fanstasy it used to be

and finally, yuo dont like it, dont buy it, end of the story
also, I pre-ordered this game for PC like a week ago, I was pretty sure WiiU wasnt going to have this “RPG”

      1. They’re calling this an RPG? It’s more of an action/adventure game. Unless it has that Zelda effect where games are lumped in as RPGs only because it has one game with vaguely RPG elements and has fantasy elements.

Totally agree with COD and FF.

  14. Do you also get the feeling that 3rd party developers take pride in saying that their games not be on the WiiU? Nintendo only real option here is to open up their wallets and start investing in adding more 2nd party developers. If not… they are on track to be the BlackBerry of console gaming.

  15. the be honest – this game will likely be a flop an ps4&xbox one either. there hasn’t been a good lotr-game ever. and as far as i know from early preview it will be a cheap ripp-off. so who care if this sh*t comes to wiiu or not.

  16. ALL WII U GETS IS KIDDY REHASHED GAMES. guys super smash bros sucks, overrated terrible combat,no combs, terrible grsphics that even look sub hd 705p lol, overpriced and nothing new and barebones. stop using smash bros as an arguement. i only own wii u. it very sad wii u is only for kids and has kids games mostly. NO MORE DAMAGE CONTROLLL PLEASE

    1. ༼ つ◕_◕༽つ STOP BEING STUPID BITCH ༼ つ◕_◕༽つ

      ༼ つ◕_◕༽つSTOP BEING STUPID BITCH༼ つ◕_◕༽つ

    2. Well said but try to make you’re sentences in English but I go the gist of what you’re saying.

The Wii U had GREAT potential but Nintendo choose the *Damage control* route instead but Japanese industry works different and everything is *group think* over there.

Sony and Microsoft if somebody wanted to there could be a leader with a vision. Miyamoto was actually rather unusual for over in Japan and he probably had to go thru the *process*.

Japan government gives money to companies like Nintendo or Mitshubishi if these companies can convince the government they are/is worth investing into however Japan recently outsourced everything to China several years ago so they too are like the rest of the world making everything from slave labor using lowest grade materials designed to break down.

Nintendo puts together their own game consoles but orders the materials from China same with Xbox and PlayStation. That is likely why the XBox ring of death happened because of cheap crap.

  17. Is this really a suprise? 3rd party game not comin to Nintendo homeconsole especially western one. Gladly this isnt big loss like FFXV, i would rather have that game than some lame Lord of the rings.

  18. Nintendo need to man up and buy Sega and Capcom who are both having financial troubles.
That way Nintendo could do what they have done with X fund the game and let the developers make the game.
They could give Sega money to make Shemue 3 and get all of Capcoms classics back!!

  19. You just take any tweet and pass it on as news?
Every time someone asks “will this game come to Wii U?”, dev answers “no”, or when developer does not list Wii U in the platforms, thats news for you.
Here’s your next big scoops: next Halo and Uncharted will most definitely skip Wii U.
Or would you prefer someone to tweet that first?

  20. It’s rather hilarious non Nintendo fans have nothing better to do than come on a Nintendo news site and bash fans and Nintendo consoles. Bunch of lame fucks.

  21. I find it hilarious that non Nintendo fans come on a Nintendo games site to trash Nintendo fans and products. Nothing better to do with your time? Lame fucks

    1. I know right? I originally used the comments to see what people thought of the stories…but this is just damn depressing

  22. Without online I don’t see any reason to why this couldn’t have been released for the Wii U besides the generic reason…

Without online though my expectations of this game is now zero and indifferent…

I look forward to the soundtrack though…

  23. Developers skipping development for a console is never a good thing. Damage control doesn’t help here, this is actually kind of bad.

I’ll still buy a Wii U because I buy every console I can, but others will need some convincing in the way of third-party games that people care about.

  24. Oh, another game not coming to the wiiu…How long will this continue? Also, funny to see non Nintendo fans come to bash the wii u on a Nintendo news site, but the damage control by Nintendo fanboys doesn’t necessarily help it either

  25. can i just say one thing i have never played a good lord of the rings or hobbit game. the book are brilliant the films and cartoon have been spectacular even the radio play. but for some resin as soon as they make a game from the commodore version to the PS3 the only one that has been entertaining to to play is the Lego ones the middle earth games are just as bad as all the others and i won’t be getting it for the PS4. i will stick to the books and films

  27. Many of the developers are the cowardly. Since they are human being. They do not understand anything about one thing: Open mind and open heart. Wii U is very potential, really. Sighing. DISAPPOINTMENT!

  29. Nintendo, we all lost respect of you…that is what you get when you could make a perfect power unique console, but only want to be unique. Your image is destroyed, a new generation of gamers will only decide to support Sony or Microsoft.

      ༼ つ◕_◕༽つ “GAMERS”? YOU MEAN “WANNABES”?༼ つ◕_◕༽つ

    2. Do you think it would’ve helped Nintendo if Battle For Middle Earth series was released on the Game Cube back then or would those games have been dumbed down and look pathetic compared to the PC version?

  31. Newer versions of the OS provide different capabilities and capacities which an app may
need to run. A hybrid mixture of HTML5, Java – Script along with extra libraries provides enhanced access to the device over a pure HTML5 web application. If the
app asks your users to publish their location,
you should rate it as “Teen”.

  32. This is the kind of game that should’ve came out FIVE YEARS ago back when developers were interested in pushing computers to their limits to show what a game can be!

For some strange reason society has gone one step forward and three steps backwards since the early 2000s *2006 or earlier* *I think due to mobile phones and Tablets* in gaming* but I could be missing something else.

I miss the days of collect a thon games with levels you could get lost in and unlockables as you complete things to make you want to play again!.

Most LOTR games look big but are quite liner in design.

Take Battle for Middle Earth series for example! Excellent navigation which uses battalions instead of a single person. You have a battalion of 10 soliders/orcs *depending on you’re team* that costs the same amount of HP. True you can have big armies but the cap size is still pretty small *no more then 900* and the maps are pretty liner with not much *maze* to them that can confuse enemies except the 6 and 8 player maps. (Needs more of those)

Sadly Mordor faction is pretty worthless in the game if you set the computer to HARD DESPITE THE FACT if I play as Gondor or Rohan against Mordor the Orcs just wipe me out with their Nazguls and Mountain Trolls which continue to beat my walls with the Nazgul swarming my men.

The 2nd game Mordor seems to be a lot better in both offense and defense which they now have arrow towers you can man 2 orc archer units in which are very effective if you have the fire arrow upgrade!!

Enemy horses hate arrow towers with fire arrows! Attack Trolls are good for smashing catapults and can rank up quite easily compared to the first game.

  33. In other words it sounds like this kind of game is taking a HUGE step in the right direction. It seems better I guess to focus on single player mode then try for multiplayer mode as a patch or DLC.

Heck I wonder if people will MOD this game like Battle for Middle Earth such as the King of The West mod.
