How Nintendo Games Could Look On Mobile Devices

Redbull has put together some mockups and ideas of how classic Nintendo games could be replicated on smartphones and tablets. The ideas that Redbull have put together are clones of existing mobile franchises using Nintendo’s iconic IP’s. It’s well worth having a look.

  1. This is actually pretty cool…. then I actually clicked the link to check them out….
OMFG its AWESOME! NINTENDO GET ON THIS!!!!
    I want ALL of these!
Not full fledged games, but enough to entice users to become familiar with the ips and invest in console/handhelds for FULL games. Wow, these are excellent. Big N needs to hire these guys pronto!

    1. That’s not how it works. No one is going to buy a Nintendo game on IOS and think “Hey, this is fun, now I shall buy an expensive Wii U.”

People will just say “Hey, this game is pretty fun…” Then that’s it. They’ll play it for a week or two and move on to the next mobile game. You’re deluded in thought if you think playing a mobile game SOMEHOW translates to more consoles sales for video game developers. Or even more game sales. Look at CAPCOM, Square Enix and Konami. Their console game sales didn’t go up because they were putting games on the app store. They are putting games on the app store, because it’s cheap and the only way for them to make money.

      1. Actually its about exposing Nintendo’s brand to a generation that ISNT growing up with Nintendo and pulling on the nostalgia strings for older generations. It WILL sell systems and games. You obviously have no sense of marketing whatsoever.
Just because SquareEnix/Capcom/Konami aren’t capitalizing doesn’t mean it wont work for anyone. Did “not working” stop the ipod/ipad from becoming the jaggernauts they are today after previous music players and tablets didnt work? The key it to get it right. The three aforementioned arent using the same ip’s for mobile/full games either. Their mobile games are USUALLY different ip’s AND/OR are POORLY executed. Street fighter on a tablet/phone? Are you kidding me? Insta-fail.
Square is one bust away from bankruptcy too, so i dont get where you think they are making all this cheap money.

        1. It won’t work. You think that kids think just like you when you were younger, but they don’t. They don’t become loyal to brands, they don’t buy into anything that isn’t popular through the mainstream. They’ll buy a cheap Nintendo app, because it’s cheap and that’s it. Then they’ll move onto the next Doodle Jump or Flappy Bird. Nintendo can “promote” their name all they want on the app store, but they are only promoting themselves to people who only care about 99 cent games.

The vast, vast majority of people who buy appstore games don’t own video game consoles and never will, because they don’t care about them. They are perfectly fine with a quick session of candycrush instead of spending hours on the next Legend of Zelda. Trying to promote Nintendo on the app store is like trying to promote the teachings of God to Atheists. THey just don’t care nor see the point.

  2. But WHY!?!?!? Doodle jump is already a thing. And if Nintendo ever put out a classic game on iOS it better not be VERTiCAL!!!!!

  3. Red Bull Guy 1: “Nobody is coming to our website!”
Red Bull Guy 2: “Well of course not. Nobody wants to go to a website about energy drinks!”
Red Bull Guy 1: “What should we do?”
Red Bull Guy 2: “I hear Nintendoom articles are popular.”

And that’s how this stupid thing was born.

  4. Only problem is that this is not a Mario/Luigi game. This is Mario textures using boring, old game play…

    1. Though, games like Dr. Mario/Luigi could work fine, as they have the simple game play that apeal to casual smart phone gamers. If they could make something good, and at the same time entertaining!

      1. And some of the Nintendo Land atractions could work, like F-zero, the ballon game and Donkey Kong (with some changes). F-zero and Donkey Kong with options to use gyroskope (?) or normal controlls. All these games have the potential for never ending games. Add an easy point system that makes it easy to compar to each other. It could also have different modes, one really basic (those are the ones that get popular) and some with more advanced game play.

        1. And if they want to use in-game purchases, owning a Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family system could give you advantages. To get these, all you have to do is to sign in with your Nintendo Network ID.

  5. Or you could just watch ABC’s resurrection. There was at least two major parts with the kid playing Donkey Kong on a smartphone.

      1. Yeah, I was a little annoyed too, cause they got the sounds right, the graphics were unmistakeable, and they even came up with an interface. It seemed like allot of intentional work to get it on the screen like that especially since you can just put a camera on a smart phone and have it look that clear. They would have to do the graphics again and make sure it has trackers on it so it stays with the motions of the kids movement.

  6. So people want Nintendo to dive into cheap cash ins? What is with the world today? Everyone’s so GODDAMN CHEAP! Sorry Nintendo wants to make original ideas and make quality products… wish we had more “Nintendo thinking” in the world instead of cheap knock-offs.

    1. rehashing games is there cheap cash ins. nintendo has no quality and there games are 60 cash grabs with no effort.

      1. As opposed to the gazillion Call of Duties or the numerous sequels on other consoles. Please sit down and shut up!

  7. Maybe I wouldn’t mind if Nintendo partnered up with the company that made Doodle Jump JUST for this one time idea, cause i ain’t gonna lie it looks really nifty to have a Mario Jump, JUST as a fun promo at least…

  8. So let me see if I have this correct:

People want Nintendo to water down its brand and games by releasing franchised versions on mobile devices, so the games appeal and sparkle will no longer exist, all in hopes to save the company from the Wii U?

Or is everyone just greedy and want more of Nintendo anyway they can get it?

Patience Is A Virtue… And Overindulgence Will Make You Fat… Or In This Case, Underappreciate Quality Games.

    1. No, people want Nintendo To stop living in the past. Releasing a few old classic nes games for ios and androids would probably make more money for them than the wii u is. Everyone has a smart phone and everyone loves Nintendo games so it makes sense. We get that the company is sturborn and only releases games on their consoles but no one is buying the wii u so this seems like an easy option for them and clearly there is a market for it. How cool would it be to legally play rhe original pokemon games on your phone or super mario world?

  9. Looks great, I would buy all Nintendo games that go on smartphones :) but too bad Nintendo doesn’t want my money :(

      1. Im an asshole for stating my opinion? Nothing like name calling without an actual logical response, and they are trying to cater to kids so badly that it only makes sense to it ring Mario (one example) to smartphones. I for one would buy the first new Mario for smartphone for a good price of like $5. Bottom line is that it’s a great idea to do its just Nintendo wants to keep it old school similar to how there’s always lack of online play in games that would greatly benefit from it (3d world, tropical freeze)

  10. So, you are saying that I have to see Nintendo go from the amazing Super Mario 3D Land or Super Mario Galaxy, to a lame Doodle Jump kind of game where you just tap the screen and jump like a crazy idiot on platforms for hours with now puzzles, no depth, no cool backgrounds and no cool stages or interesting enemies?

    Seriously?

Why is this pressure to put Nintendo into the awful gaming scene of mobiles? Where is people asking for Halo or The Last Of Us released on mobile?

Hey, no more Super Mario 3D Land or New Super Mario Bros. 2, just a Mario Jump and tap that screen for days!

I don’t know why they want or keep putting pressure on Nintendo, executives for quick money and people for a lazy, boring, bad, 1 dollar Mario game.

The gaming community is dying with these lazy and easy mobile games.

  11. The only people who want mobile nintendo games are the ones who want Nintendo to die or they just don’t want the games without havign to support the company by actually buying a system

  12. assuming people who don’t play nintendo games want nintendo games but need to be convinced? … is the most insane thing that only make sense to people who love nintendo.

i love nintendo … i’m not too interested in Atari … perhaps someone at Atari is having trouble convincing me of buying and playing Atari games … how could they convince me? … the answer is “please don’t waste my time … i’m happy without it”

likewise, leave my grandmother and toddler alone … they do not want Nintendo. My wallet is open … when will nintendo start listening to me?

  13. Dear EVERYBODY:

Nintendo makes R-E-A-L games, quality games. They don’t make 99 cent garbage games or ad supported pig vomit titles for the mindless drones who spend all day with their phone in their hand, texting back and forth with other drones about what they had for breakfast. If those people are happy with what actual gamers consider to be trash, fine! But don’t expect companies who have a winning business model for over 3 decades to suddenly just change course because a bunch of bloggers who get every smartphone for free keep posting about how Nintendo should make mobile games.

The fact that all these drones keep saying the big N should develop for iOS/Android is just proof that they are not satisfied with the crap they’re playing. JUST BUY A 3DS PEOPLE! THEY’RE CHEAP!

  14. I never understood the argument for putting nintendo games on smart phones. Wouldn’t that hurt the 3ds sales, which are selling decently?

  15. If Nintendo put there games on mobile devices the game play would be gay probably use your fingers to swipe the screen to move most people dont like playing games that way they rather use a controller and press buttons not swipe the fucking screen

  16. These type of games can admittedly be fun, but they don’t really captivate you in the same manner that full-fledged games on dedicated handhelds or consoles do. I’d have fun with a Mario Jump…for like 3 days. Then I’d most likely play it once in a while before completely forgetting about it. I’m sure this is the case for most people too. I’m glad Nintendo are staying true to their beliefs and choosing not to degrade their prolific franchises.

  17. What’s the point? There are already thousands of companies making games like this for phones, why should Nintendo go into that business?

  18. I don’t mind if they do this. The bottom line is making money for Nintendo, if its just quick mindless games for the 1 minute consumer, then yea fine. Just as long as they don’t skimp on the console games which needs to be a delivered quicker but with the quality control that Nintendo is so crazy about.
