This week’s UK charts are now in courtesy of GFK chart-track. Yoshi’s New Island takes a small hit and slides down into 16th place from 10th last week. Though Baby Mario lets out six squeaky cries, Yoshi’s managed to soothe his wounds a little, much to the happiness of Nintendo. But at the top of the board, PlayStation 4’s Infamous: Second Son takes the crown over newcomer Metal Gear Solid V, while last week’s number one Titanfall slips into third.
However, Pokemon Y is the only other Nintendo game standing in the individual top 40 other than Yoshi this week. Maybe Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright can spark more fuel onto the 3DS train next week. You can check out the individual top 40 below.

Last I checked on Gamefly user ratings, 6 or 7 of the top 10 new games are Nintendo exclusives. Mario 3D World, Animal Crossing, Pikmin 3, Pokemon, Zelda Link Between Worlds, Windwaker HD. Can’t wait for Smash and Mario Kart! Til then it’s Luigis Mansion and 3D Land and World on 3DS and Wii U!

People say that Wii U is dead and all this, that and the other, but the bigger picture is, it’s still selling at the moment. Yes the pace might be slow, but any console will slow down for a bit.
I’ve checked PS4 and X1 sales and to be honest, they’re not much better either. Also I know of very few games out for those consoles right now.
And those saying Wii U is not powerful, well it’s actually very powerful, and can easily output the same visual level of the other consoles.

Well for a starter the CPU in Wii U is twice the strength of X1 and PS4’s CPU.
1 core of Espresso has the same power as 2 cores of x86, and it’s got a much higher IPC. Each core can output up to 3 instructions per clock using superscalar architecture, an as there is little latency, data exchange between the chips increases. Also it’s got a 4 stage pipeline, so the codes get executed really quick, especially since it’s got out of order execution – therefore the code is executed very fast – efficiency.
The GPGPU might not look much and it might only have 2Gb of RAM, with 1Gb for games only, but there is a huge amount of eDRAM on the GPGPU which renders the games in 1080p natively, and the eDRAM can has got a max clock rate of 563.20GBs so that’s faster than the GDDR5 RAM in PS4.
It’s a very powerful console and games can look very good if they’re designed correctly and the game engines take advantage of the hardware, otherwise you get laggy games.

When you read about consoles and learn about the hardware, the stories we hear are turned upside down. It’s only because developers don’t want to learn the console because Espresso is 3 PowerPC cores clocked at 1.24ghz. Don’t think “That seems to be slow” truth is, that’s what it’s meant to look like, but the clock speed doesn’t tell you everything. The hardware can do quite a lot in the clock speeds, so in this day and age it’s more about what a console can do rather than the the given clock speed.
This time round Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have gone for what’s known as a GPGPU setup. What this means is that the hardware can does exactly what it needs to do. The GPGPU actually takes workload from the CPU so that allows for everything to be processeda. Lot more efficiently. Also all the audio is put to the GPGPU as there is what’s known as a DSP (digital signal processor) sitting directly clocked at 120Mhz. So when you think about it, Wii U is very strong in terms of raw horsepower. It just takes for a developer to crack the power open and experiment.
It’s that very reason no one is doing anything with it. Especially with PowerPC, it’s a type of core in which you need to know what you’re doing as it speeds everything up. With x86 the code just runs as it it’s been designed for a PC (in essence that’s what X1 and PS4 are).
So Wii U is actually the power house. Did you know that Project CARS for Wii U runs on a single core as it’s that powerful. Meaning that the other consoles need 2 cores to make it work. It’s that powerful.
