Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has conceded that the company wasn’t able to shift as many Wii U consoles and software during the key holiday season as they had originally expected. Iwata went onto say that the lack of game software sales is having the biggest impact on profit at the Kyoto based company. The company expects a loss of 25 billion yen ($240 million) in the year to March.
“During the year-end shopping season, we weren’t able to lift sales momentum for the Wii U,” Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told a press briefing in Osaka.
“The decrease in game software sales is having the biggest impact” on profit, he added. My duty, more than anything else, is to revive our business momentum,” he said
Thanks, kjebb

Dat flamebait headline.
Everyone is looking at Mario Kart 8 to make changes for WiiU sales.
(and e3 as well)
E3 is smash bros only. Come on only one major game for the rest of the year. 3 major nintendo releases in ayear doesn’t make a good console.
Who said this??
I swear Nintendo’s E3 presentation would be in June 10, not now. Where are Zelda U? Miyamoto’s new game? Brand new games? Updates about Bayo 2, Sonic Boom, X, Hyrule Warriors, Yarn Yoshi, SMT vs. Fire Emblem and etc.? Does people like you are realisticallly thinking that Nintendo will talk about and only about Smash Bros.? Damn! Do you even play games?
Yarn Yoshi has not been mentioned for over a year. People like you hold on to the tiniest thread and close your eyes and leap. I sware. Last direct was only about Smash bros and they announced 3ds is being released first.
If nintendo releasing games last on their on WIIU doesn’t tell you something, then just keep leaping blind into the canyon.
This has nothing to do with the order that Nintendo plans to release their games. But in fact, it’s a GOOD THING that Nintendo is holding their strongest title for the holidays.
You call me blind, but is actually you that is stating that Nintendo would talk only and only about Smash Bros. in this year’s E3. I mean, where are the good sense? Does people like you are realistically thinking that Nintendo will not tak about games like Zelda U, Miyamoto’s new game, another new games for Wii U, updates about Bayo 2, Monolith’s X, Sonic Boom, new games for 3DS.
Too much negativity, I can’t handle this!
yeah… when people make their top most antispated wiiu games they only put like 3 or 4…
this is why eyes will glare at Nintendo this e3 cuz they may have an unannounced game in their sleeve.
So what, that console is a failure. We shall come strong after ten years from now! We might do the example, like Apple and Steve Jobs!
I got a question for you…why do you hate n intend so much? Give me a real solid answer.
This is the reason why Nintendo is making QOL so they can make money outside of videogames since gaming has bringed loss for them. I actually go as far as to say that it is quite possible that 8th gen will be the last one with dedicated videogame systems after that i can see Nintendo doing their QOL stuff while MS does some kinda all in one multimedia boxes and Sony probably copies either of them or is dead by then.
-Predicter
I can see SONY moving to a online streaming and distribution model.
I actually really love Nintendo and the Wii U but here goes my ranting:
IWATA YOU IDIOT CAN’T YOU MARKET THE WII U PROPERLY IT HAS SUCH GREAT GAMES AND YOU FAIL TO ADVERTISE THEM. ALSO CAN’T YOU GET AT LEAST A FEW THIRD PARTIES TO DEVELOP FOR WII U? WON’T THAT ACTUALLY HEP SALES? WAKE UP IWATA WAKE UP
Yes.#DontDamgeControlFacts
Try releasing games for the “core gamers” like you said. It’s like talking to a wall with Nintendo. They don’t want to hear any advise.
Advice* lol But that is true. We say we want Starfox, Iwata says nope cant give you that, we got 10 Mario games coming, and you want a new game from the gamecube era? Here is Chibi Robo! And we all say mother of god they just don’t get it.
Core games? What’s core games for you?
People were asking for Pikmin 3, Nintendo did it and the game didn’t sell. People were asking for a new IP, Nintendo teamed up with Platinum Games and they made The Wonderful 101, but , again, the game didn’t sell (which is a shame, becuase I love this game so much).
Nintendo needs to make games that people want to buy, not core games.
“What!!!” said Nintendo. “Oh, we heard you. There will be a new Mario Bros next year.”
Release Smash Bros in November, do a price drop the same day, advertise both of these things aggressively along with SM3DW and Mario Kart 8. Maybe some deal involving getting all 3 of these games. It’s going to take something like that to really shift some Wii U’s.
How about making more games a year? 3 games for this year confirmed LoL #WiiuDontGetGames#ShovelwareKnightSaveTheWeakU
Usually I wouldn’t respond to an obvious troll but hey, your actual point isn’t completely stupid. I don’t really think that Nintendo’s game production has gone down though – they’re probably working at full capacity. Perhaps they should outsource more games, but in reality I think we know that Wii U’s failure is not the lack of Nintendo games.
Yeah but if they outsource a game and it doesn’t play too well, then the value of the IP would dramatically decrease and Nintendo would be blamed for the move.
They’re better off keeping their IPs to themselves. That’s like asking Microsoft to oursource Halo to Sony and Sony to give one of their IPs to Microsoft. It just wouldn’t work.
And the 3 games is because they started it atleast 1 to 2 years ago. They r not starting new games for the wiiu for 15′.
Price cut wont help shit, that was already proven. .In the UK they were selling a Wii U for like $200 (whatever their equivalent is) and it did nothing.
Smash Bros. will come out in december. But hosting a tournament for higly skilled players (Mango, Mew2King, Aizen, Ken, etc.) and allowing people to play the game via Best Buy stores is indeed a pretty smart move from Nintendo of America.
I just expect more games besides Smash Bros. to play in Best Buy.
December? I doubt it. I’d say more like early November. Jesus, why is this game so late? People wamted HD Smash before Wii U even existed. And Smash 3DS will cannibalize Wii U sales due to being MONTHS earlier. Hopefully the rest of the Wii U games make up for that. Heck, Maybe SM3DW might be the killer app given time and bigger install base!
Maybe Smash for Wii U is being released in winter, so they can add more, better features to that version. Just because both games will have the same roster doesn’t mean they’ll be even in every other department. After all, Smash Run is 3DS only.
And that’s my hope for Super Mario 3D World when the Wii U gets a bigger install base. It’s a really great game & deserves better sales than it has. Nintendo definitely needs to do some marketing for the game & show these haters that it’s not just some 3D Land knockoff.
The 3DS version would only cannibalize the Wii U version if both would released at the same time, your logic is fail.
And more than a HD Smash Bros., people were also asking for a handheld Smash Bros. since the GBA era. Even if the Wii U version would be released before, the 3DS version still is going to be a massive success.
And are you actually thinking the game is coming late? I’m expecting for this game to be delayed to 2015, if is going to be released in december, it will be marvelous.
Smash bros has never shown to be a huge console mover. Just look at the history of the game and its sales.
He’s gotta be kidding me. You launch a console with practically no 1st party support the first year. The games you do release don’t have online, so your console doesn’t sell very well, then you wonder why games don’t sell?
*palmface*
What’s wrong? DK and the cat suit not making ends meet? Well NO SHIT.
Atleast you are prepared for the Nintendocalypse or harsh survival conditions as we seem to be going for if things are not corrected soon…
*wink*
Yep. We might need to build a few bunkers for the pending fallout approaching. I think Nintendo will survive and emerge evolved, but it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
That is, unless they start listening to their core audience…which does not appear to be happening. This could be the beginning of the gaming version of a Zombie Apocalypse.
I love fanboys, they still think there is hope. When only 3rd party release is lego for the year when it comes to big titles. If it was not for indies, you would only have 3 games for the year.
Watch out, my drones are hardly have any Intelligence. So please don’t take them serious.
Then my Lord Iwata the supremeness, how about you actually put our resources into hiring more researchers and marketing facilities and promote the Wii U more than WW2 and Dodgeball combined?…
It’s getting pretty frustrating not having any answers from you and High Command even amongsts your most loyal servants…
You know i believe Nintendo is actually saving resources towars QOL project, maybe that is the reason why they dont advertise WiiU. Maybe they have more faith about QOL than WiiU and believe that QOL is a product with mass appeal and so they wanna save everythin for it so they can hit it big with QOL. I love WiiU and 3DS but i feel like this is the reason. They make tons with 3DS and they probably see same kinda potential in QOL, they probably dont have much faith in WiiU, but also gamers(yes those fat nerds in dark corners) have already made up their mind about WiiU being “irrelevant” so i doubt ad´s would do much.
-Predicter
It must be pretty frustrating for Nintendo when their “loyal servants” such as yourself don’t buy their struggling home console.
It’s the only conolse I don’t yet own ever by them and I will have it pretty soon…
And I don’t have to “have it” to know that I’m a fan…
How about retiring and allowing someone do the job that knows how to. Regie too.
Like I said, I’ll give my final verdict after E3…
Same. Since Iwata was heading the company during the Wii’s & DS’s great success and was in charge of the successful 3DS, I want to give him a chance, too. Forget the fact the Wii was mostly casual games. It still helped with Nintendo’s overall savings they have put back in case of emergencies. So Iwata gets the benefit of a doubt from me.
Indeed…
Most are so quick at judging everything…
It’s like the Green Goblin said to Spider-Man in the first movie…
As for Reggie, I’m still peeved about the long wait for Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, & Pandora’s Tower that he put us through. Unless he ultimately had no choice in that matter.
You better take the world with this Quality of Life. E3 2014, I’ll be waiting with my socks on tight.
WiiU is just a failed project. But it could still have a place if they lowered the price and released/announced some new good games for wide audience. But there’s like nothing on it and seems like Nintendo is just focusing on new projects while slowly killing WiiU.
Can’t wait for the stockholders meeting! Can’t wait!
It’s going to come down to the Stockholders liting a fire under Nintendo’s ass. That might be our best chances for change.
They haven’t yet and failure was staring them in the face.
That is the problem though, IWATA you think oh, ‘I’ll opologise and learn from it,’ but then you forget the whole point and repeat yourself.
So, how many games did we have for the holiday season? Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and…? Kranky Kong? Of course you couldn’t maintain momentum, you had only one major title, and one that actually disappointed many at the PAX event! Did you really believe you could create some momentum with only one title?!
Try releasing something other than Mario during the holiday season!

DONT WORRY IWATA WILL SAVE THE WII U WITH THIS GAME
SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE 2 for Wii U
official e3 teaser “LEAKED”
Put that away! There’s children here!
Check your facts. With graphics that amazing, it’s obviously an xBox1 game. Probably won’t get released though.
The main reason why Wii U is flopping because this dumbass Iwata isn’t marketing the Wii U properly or in fact, not at all and its gonna remain that way if he keeps Wii U in the dark.
Its never the specs, the name or the softwares itself. But from the very beginning, nobody knew the Wii U existed and this was the major backfire.
I believe Iwata has failed to see his own failures and must step down eventually because he can’t understand what the West and even his own home country wants anymore.
A drone, doubts Iwata! What an amazing discovery!
Motherfucker, since when I’m a drone and why liking Nintendo makes anyone a drone? I like any good console that serves good games, not just one brand like yourself you dumbass.
And I speak for all Nintendo, Iwata is fucking up and there’s no denying it. He must go.
In this case, I disagree on the Name not impacting sales. Generally I would agree, but instead of ending the Wii with a blaze of glory, they took it at least two years too long, giving it an agonizing death, enraging Nintendo fans with sub par graphics while the rest of the world enjoyed HD, THEN, when they finally got their mislead ass into the HD scene, they didn’t know how to use it??…
For Fuck’s sake. Why didn’t they begin HD game development while they were building WiiU? This whole conversation is just boiling my blood. I’m going to focus on getting work done and try to calm out. #Goddamnyounintendo
That is the problem with Nintendo and Fanboys. They think WII was a success, but it was not a success when it comes to consoles. It was a weird fluke for mom’s and dad’s. That is different. Of course next gen was a complete failure because mom’s and dad’s is not rushing to best buy to buy a new wii fit u for 300$.
I half agree. I think the name had a HUGE impact on the awareness. People to this day still don’t knowbthe difference between a Wii and Wii U. It’s sad. Even Wii 2 would’ve made more of a contrast.
Sadly I have to disagree with the name part, least as far as some casuals go. Oh & let’s not forget any Sony & Xbox fans & fanboys alike that didn’t grow up on video games during the 90s. Unless it has a number by it, they don’t realize it’s a new console. (Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One.) They’ve grown up thinking if it doesn’t have a number or a new name entirely, it must be nothing more than an add-on. If I remember correctly, even the 3DS had a hard time because some people thought it was just an attachment, or something, to the DS that gave it 3D effects.
its about specs retard. even kids know wii u is last gen like the adults lol.
xD You poor mindless little boy. The only thing last gen is your idiocy into thinking graphical power is all that matters.
So console gaming is suddenly about specs…then how Wii won last gen, PS2 won the generation before that and why DS & 3DS kicked PSP/Vita’s ass for two straight generations when all of thos consoles have “weaker” specs? Because specs aren’t the primary focus retard. Its the games and always will be about which platform offers the best compelling games collection.
For probably about the 712th time, I remind everybody that Iwata led Nintendo to its most successful period of its history. We’re not dealing with an idiot.
But, this serious problem remains. Leaderships must be change.
The Wii is a two edged sword.
It DID print money, but it was a one-time use tactic. Nintendo needed to take their earnings from the Wii, and then get back into the hardcore market.
Instead, they let the Wii mold, and fester and drag their reputation through the gaming mud, then tried to replicate the Wii experience, used it’s shitty name that is associated with low-power hardware, continued to abandon the core gamers in their quest for the holy grail and get the casual market to bite again…
No, what you call success is ultimately going to ruin Nintendo. The Wii will end up costing Nintendo as much as it made them, and when they finally wake up, they will have squandered the profits made on more casual shit.
I will have to disagree with Iwata being successful. He COULD have been, but I don’t think he’s as smart as you give him credit for. I believe he’s a good guy, and I wish he’s retire with a nice pension. Every second they try to continue the Wii’s legacy, they just burn our valuable resources.
This site isn’t about providing accurate and interesting news. It’s just a snare to bring in anti Nintendo trolls. I’ve had it with this so called news site. Go ahead and keep feeding the trolls Nintendonews. You’ve lost one reader.
You’ll be back. I did the same thing you say you will do. There are other sites, but non have the variety and frequency of news updates. The other sites ultimately are slow and boring. MNN updates far more than any other Nintendo site.
You’ll see, and then you will be back.
We all know you just want to watch the wars…
*wink*
sickr is doing fine.
And you surely as hell don’t.
They better market the hell out of the Wii U when Mario Kart comes out.
What Nintendo should do is bring more wii u third party exclusives and pay for them to remain exclusive. With that even with a lack of overall third party support we can at least bring different games to the table. At this point I don’t know if it’s too late or not to bring back all the third parties that Nintendo has lost
Im not sure he knows how to do that with what iv seen so far…I think hes out of touch with some of the companies audience.
Go to the Nintendo website and look at over 250 games for WiiU. Go to Xbox One games and there’s about 20. Who is the bigger loser? It’s all about marketing failure.
he’s true – the worst thing for nintendo this time is that 1-titles even titles like NSM, SM3D, Pikmin3,ZWW or DKC don’t shift enough units anymore. this is a whole different situation compared to the gc-period where those big titles shifted millions of units and helped them to make the gc a profit.
the decreasing interest in their coretitles is by far the biggest concern they should have, cause it seems that even the few left fans who already bought a console are not interested in them anymore! this is an alarm signal!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghEhI4CJjAM
Hmm, digital event…
I was wondering if anyone else saw this. This seemed like big news to me but the internet seems to be ignoring it. To me this looked like the first step in a very very good direction and I think if people made more of a big deal the few times they cater more towards their core fans then they might do it more often. Let NOA do more things like this.
MNN actually posted an article about this a few moments after I posted the video link.
And I agree. This is a good step, but I still hope they appear on stage during the presentation for big announcements like Zelda or Metroid.
Yeah when I first saw it on YouTube it had almost no views and I started checking around sites to see if somehow I was one of the only people seeing it. No news sites had reported on it, not even big ones like IGN. Then I came here looking through comments to see if users had found it because I didn’t want to share something already shared and I eventually ran into your post.
Also, I was really hoping so too, but unfortunately it seems they chose to go all digital… Still hoping for a lot of impressive reveals and remaining cautiously optimistic.
It’s a good thing I’m subscribed to Nintendo on YT lol.
I’m hoping they show the stream of the Digital Event in the showroom and present the big announcements, such as Zelda or Metroid, live. I’m thinking it’s going to be a mix between a direct and a live press conference. It doesn’t seem to be like an ordinary Nintendo Direct.
Me too lol. That’s how I saw it.
And that’d be cool. The “Event” part seems like it’s going to be more than another Direct, but sites are reporting that Nintendo said they’ve opted out of a conference again and that they’re just building on last years approach. Might end up just being a cooler, live Direct. Either way here’s hoping for some really good surprises and no letdowns.
Alright, let the hype begin. Whatever the case may be, I’m very excited and I know Nintendo will pull out some big surprises this E3. I just know it!
I love the idea of the Invitational and Smash Fest. I don’t like how they seem to be doing another digital event. THEY NEED TO HAVE A CONFERENCE.
I agree.
There is not enough variety in their core titles from an artistic perspective and in some cases for gameplay as well…most of what iv seen so far for wii u by nintendo is lots of mario games and or semi 2d platformers…good games indeed but it does not cover alot of peoples tastes in games. I also think they underestimate how much an improvement more power and graphics make to interactive entertainment. Its not just a case of games being more pritty. I am hopeing the games at e3 such as zelda etc can prove me horribly wrong and that iv been talking out of my ass.
sry for my spelling that i dont care to correct.
Agreed.

IWATA WILL SAVE THE WII U WITH THIS GAME
SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE 2 for Wii U “LEAKED”
official e3 teaser “LEAKED”
Simple and quick decisions to fix Nintendo:
(1) release all VC games … at least the first party nintendo games.
(2) lower cost of all VC games
(3) unify accounts
(4) make the 3DS an optional controller for WiiU
(5) WiiU v2.0 – plays blu-ray, larger hard drive
(6) 20 free VC games for new WiiU purchases + 2 WiiU games
(7) release gamecube games
(8) release orig. controller replicas
(9) increase the number of free games for purchasing the WiiU over time
We are not the Sonyans…
I know… But Commander, the Sonyans get more stuff that they don’t deserve…
The Sonyans are living in a dreamworld…
They are being destroyed from the inside…
#5 will have to wait. They won’t abandon wiiU this early. To do so would be stupid.
#6 is TOO generous, they probably shouldn’t give away the farm.
otherwise, I think the other items on your list are fantastic ideas. :)
It doesn’t even matter amymore. People will whine and complain no matter what Nintendo does. They get a hardcore 3rd party game like Bayonetta 2. Still whine and complain. They bring out a ton of 1st party games in 2014. People complain about “kiddie games”. You just can’t win with these people. I’ll enjoy my Wii U whether it’s a success or not. I don’t care about the haters.
Agreed…
But we still must have concerns if we want our empire to live on…
It will live on, i dont why but im kinda hyped to see what this QOL is. I mean its not gaming related, who knows what kinda cool device it is. I mean we get games from Nintendo all the time but QOL is something totally new, Nintendo doing something new and exploring.
-Predicter
Yes but I just hope they don’t abandon us, their loyal servants…
There are “haters” then there are those of us that have invested thousands into this company, supporting from the beginning, having been given empty promises and abandoned for the casual market.
There is a difference between “haters” and the original hardcore crowd that has been slowing leaving since Nintendo doesn’t give a shit about us anymore.
Nintendo is a weird company. I don’t understand why they are just now understanding what consumers want. Even for a Japanese company. Sony is Japanese and they seem to strongly understand what the west wants. Nintendo makes top notch quality games, but they don’t exactly please well in other areas. This is why I wished Nintendo and Sony would have stayed together as partners. Sony could be the advertiser’s and handle all the horsepower that gets put under the consoles and Nintendo could be the one to bring out their innovation and put all their Nintendo franchises and games on it and they could work together. We would have a truly revolutionary console. And I admit, as a hardcore Nintendo fan, I am slowly pulling away and leaning towards the other gaming companies, but I will keep my faith in them until e3. I’m not giving up on them just yet.
“Sony is Japanese and they seem to strongly understand what the west wants”
What do you mean? Im not a hater of Sony, im fan of Playstation and such but PS4 is the only succesful thing from Sony atm. I mean look at Vita, does west really want that? Or what about their tv´s? As good as they are their tv´s arent doing hot either. Nintendo only has 1 failing product while Sony has lots of more. Im not defending Nintendo im just pointing out that Sony isnt doing that well compared to Nintendo as a whole. I mean i could go and make Nintendo look to do good through the success of 3DS while the WiiU is tanking and making loss for them the same way you make it look like Sony is doing good through the success of ps4.
No, I mean they understand what most people want nowadays. Like how back in 2006, the PS3 was High Definition and had a Blu-ray player. Wasn’t really popular back then, but now it caught up. They were ahead of their time. PS3’s doing pretty good atm. And their TV’s are great. Idk why those aren’t selling. Lol. Vita just needs to get more games. It’s a pretty impressive handheld, but for what it is, a gaming device, it doesn’t really give you what you want. Nintendo makes amazing games, but they keep forgetting some of the most basic things in their console like a universal account and DVD/Blu–ray player. I know that stuff isn’t even really required for a gaming console, but people over here act like they can’t even live without it. I swear today I overhead somebody say “I chose PS3›360 because it’s got a Blu-ray player”. Sad, really…
Sony and Nintendo have opposite approaches. Sony just keeps trying to push the newest consumer tech no matter what the cost is or how the economy is doing and that’s partially why their products dont sell. They’re releasing super expensive 4K TV’s now, when a lot of people are just getting aboard the 1080p train. The PS3 had a Blu-ray player and a powerful processor but launched around $700. Plus the odd processor was troublesome for most devs when making multiplat games so Xbox versions were usually more stable and sometimes better looking. The Vita is stupid powerful- but expensive. So less buyers means low install base which meant devs rather make a 3DS game with more potential buyers. They seem to get it with PS4 though. They had to or they might’ve been saying goodbye soon. They made it plenty capable but it’s not too expensive.
On the other hand Nintendo (supposedly) thinks family and budget as far as their hardware goes. Wii didn’t even play DVD’s because they wanted to keep the price down(I believe Miyamoto originally wanted it to be around $100 if possible), and they didn’t want it to eat up electricity but they ended up skimping out waaaaaaaay to much. Wii U seemed to be a good try for a rather disconnected company using a GPGPU and having great specs compared to the Wii, but still fell somewhere between the two gens in terms of power, while the 3DS is actually pretty capable at a somewhat acceptable price, so it’s enjoying success. Still as far as home consoles go Nintendo seems to focus too much on budget (maybe fearing another GameCube?) and Sony on specs but in the end they’ve both been paying the price. If they could find a happy medium as far as price and power go, everyone would benefit…
Well said!
soo making cheap and garbage outdated hardware is good?
Go play your Xbox One, kid. Oh wait! You can’t afford one because your parents won’t buy it, instead buying you a Wii U & forcing you to get the Xbox 360 which IS last gen.
x86 in PS4/One (1970s computer architecture) says hello.
Which consoles are “outdated” again moron?
wii oUtdated confirmed.
This totally makes a lot of sense.
” supporting from the beginning”
DAMN! Those must be some damn old people by now!
Yep. 30’s. And I was gaming before the NES. I games on Atari, and before that, coleco vision.
Hell, I played games that loaded from a Cassete tape. I’ve games since games were made from text graphics. ;)
Yeah but you havent supported Nintendo from beginnin. They have been here over 100 years. That was my attempt of trying to be funny xD
FALSE! I have their Playing cards! Replicas offered by Nintendo! Cost me a pretty penny in purchases to obtain them. ;D
(and I’m really 200 yrs old!… That might be a lie)
Why not admit it? We can’t lift Wii U momentum at all. I’m kind of embarrassed to be a Wii U owner lately.
Well perhaps we could if we have the software. There has been a lack of it for a long time. So it’s no wonder the sales haven’t “rocketed”. When Mario Kart 8 is out, that will drive the sales through the roof.
Software isn’t the issue, either, to be honest since the Wii U does have tons of games. It might be tons of games that don’t cater to everyone but it’s better than nothing. The main problem is marketing as most of us well know.
Pingback: Nintendo boss admits they were unable to "lift sales" for the Wii U over Christmas - Haverzine
Nintendo will still be UNABLE TO LIFT SALES MOMENTUM for the rest of year.
It depends how much they put out games that have mass appeal. As much as i love FatalFrame,X,Bayonetta,W101 etc. niche games wont move units. Notice that SM3DW is probably the only big game with mass appeal out there on WiiU and people probably dont only wanna play Mario. Of course i could add WWHD but its a remake and remakes dont move much units.
With CoD, battlefield, titanfall, GTA etc.. Being what millions want, Nintendo could easily design a Metroid with the same, quality campaign mode, then add a few multiplayer modes. Something like extinction/ zombie mode from CoD, as well as something to satisfy the “twitch” shooter multiplayer folks.
massive content, charge $60- $70, and it will will move units.
Ok, maybe not “easily” but they could do it. But that’s not what Nintendo wants. It’s not about the consumer anymore. It’s about how many platformers they can produce. :/
I agree about that theres too many platformers on WiiU. They should definately put the same guys who made Metroid Prime Hunters to develop a full new FPS game for WiiU something to rival Cod,Halo and KillZone. Im actually shocked for the fact that they havent done that yet since they have capable guys working for them.
EXACTLY
Sorry but I don’t want my precious Metroid to become another generict boring FPS that resembles other games…
Metroid must remain unique and Metroidy…
Yeah, but you are not powerful enough, Commander. Millions upon millions of CoD players against just YOU would come and buy it. It’s no use. XD
Fuck the Call of Duty fanbase! Resident Evil is in the shitty position it is in now because Capcom tried to cater to the Call of Duty fans instead of the core fans of the series!
Agreed. Look at what happened to Resident Evil when Capcom tried to cater to the CoD fanbase. I’d rather Metroid stay a niche title than become a mainstream title that has lost it’s soul for the mass appeal. The next Metroid should use Other M’s gameplay but with finisher moves reserved for high-tier enemies, mini-bosses, & bosses while using 1st person for the scan (the best thing that came from the Metroid Prime Trilogy) & X-Ray visors while everything else is 3rd person.
Cap on did NOT add multiplayer, they fucked up the entire franchise, which is NOT what I’m suggesting for Metroid.
I’m saying (Modern, HD Metroid) + (Separate online multiplayer “death match” type game play… Or coop like ME3)
No but Capcom did go all action-y instead of sticking to it’s original genre: survival horror. It wouldn’t be so bad if RE5 & 6 stuck with RE4’s gameplay. So they still tried to cater to half of Call of Duty’s fanbase. Capcom aside, I see what you are trying to do now. Sucker in the Call of Duty fans with multiplayer. I can get with that as long as it doesn’t infect the main game.
No no! Don’t sacrifice ANY of the Metroid formula.
I’m saying add additional multiplayer content like a modern version of Metroid hunters to compete with the FPS. I’m saying a multi-layer disk that has the full, HD metroid experience, then have the online multiplayer to attract the twitch shooters.
Could pull a chunk of Halo /CoD folks our way.
I should be a spin-off game then or a Metroid Prime Hunters sequel for Wii U, but not the main series…
I expect some pretty big, radical changes to come soon from Nintendo…. it will be both astonishing, amazing, but probably sad at the same time. I’m sure the news will be both good and bad.
I sure hope the good outweighs the bad :/
I feel that way about QOL. I do believe it is something amazing that they are working now, but i feel kinda sad about what may happen to old Nintendo at the same time.
Well wasn’t this just obvious?
But to be honest, there hasn’t been a lot of software out so far and many developers are not even touching the system.
I am completely fed up with these articles, it’s very boring to read the same thing over and over again.
Yes Nintendo did a rather stupid thing, but because no one is developing for the console (which is powerful, yes I used that very word!!!) it’s hurting the console quite badly.
When MK8 is out, people will start shutting up.
…. no don’t say… really IWATA!!!!!!!!! i thought everything was going well for the wii U. If I remember correctly after the release of Donkey Kong back in February we were supposed to have a steady release of software. March and April has been no event for Nintendo, end of may will see MK8, June will be E3 with no game release. July will be dead. August may bring Kirby, September will be watch dog, October will be X (if I remember correctly), November smash bros and December only god knows. What a fantastic year for the Wii U!!!!! geez I hope bandai will release one piece and DBz on Wii U.
What did Iwata & Nintendo do to try & lift the WiiU during the holidays ?
Not a great deal from what I can remember.
I also remember Reggie saying that there wouldn’t be a lack of software throughout 2014. That promise as far as I am concerned hasn’t exactly been met.
I just don’t get why people don’t want to program for Wii U and make games fun like what they should be.
Oh wait, I am sorry, people just care about visuals and the power of a console. Kind of sad really.
I love Iwata and have great respect for him but there’s no point of admitting things and apologising if he doesn’t seem to be doing much about it. I know that he has done great things for Nintendo but it’s time he stepped down of his throne before he does something stupid that ends up destroying Nintendo.
No shit, cause you didn’t DO ANYTHING. You sat there twiddling your thumbs. You claimed you had a plan yet failed to show off your plan.
wtf and your advertising QOL.
And you’re advertising your own dumbass wanting an outdated 360? Get your hypocrisy in check.
Fun fact: Studies show when Nintendo fans join an online gaming community a small percentage of them turn against Nintendo. They become cynical, a hater, or a troll.
It’s a disorder, called the Nintendoomania, caused by a Reactance that occurs when the person feels his/her choice/preference is threatened.
Example of events that can trigger a Reactance:
-any indication that Nintendo may “lose”
-“Nintendo is not the “Nintendo” I used to know”
-“I own a competing product.”
The disorder is also not uncommon amongs fans of competing products and companies.
Symptoms may vary depending how much one loves Nintendo (or love a competitor) and how much time is spent with other Nintendoomers and Nintendomaniacs.
In other words: The main reason of why Smash Bros. for Wii U is being held to the end of year.
It’s kinda hilarious to see that fans (and even haters) are more desperated with the Wii U’s actual situation than Nintendo itself. I think they (Nintendo) are trying to telling us to don’t worry about this and care only about the games.
