Nintendo Apparently Won’t Be Making A Loss On Wii U Anymore

Senior Research Analyst, David Gibson, has revealed on Twitter that going forward Nintendo won’t be making a loss on every Wii U console sold to consumers. Gibson says this all changed when Nintendo announced that it expects to shift a target of 3.6m Wii U units and will need to produce more units than its current inventory.

  1. unless they lower the price to 250, which is the price it should cost. but it doesn’t, because of gamepad, because the NFC which is not used anywhere and is gimmics, costs 5 times more to make than the whole RAM in wiiu. lol.

    1. Wow… its like you’ve heard those technological words before, But don’t actually know what they mean and just drop them in to look smart…

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Considering how successful Skylanders is, the NFC is far from a gimmick at this point. That’s like calling the successful touch screen a gimmick. It was a gimmick starting out but it eventually proved itself as revolutionary & evolved past the gimmick stage.

      1. Nintendo fans are so fucking cheap lol! The Wii U comes bundled with a $60 game, and there are no paywalls for online games like Monster Hunter, AC3, AC4, Need for Speed, ME3, COD… would you rather pay $50 more per year for 5+ years to play online? That’s an extra $250+!

        1. Yeah, the Wii U is priced perfectly for what you get with the system. Being the only current-gen console that offers free online play is a feat by itself.

            1. What do you know? You probably don’t even have internet. I bet you’re at a public library typing this shit out.

            2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

You probably heard about Super Smash Bros Brawl’s shitty online then came to the assumption that every game’s online was shit for Wii, and you never found out that later games had way better online, nearly flawless if a person had good internet, so you assume this is still a hurdle the Wii U has to overcome.

        2. But don’t forget that tons of gamers who play other consoles say this a lot when it comes to buying a Wii U. Targeting only the Nintendo core-audience would be wrong in that regard.

      2. name of the game is u got to lose money to make money. Iwata playing it smart. Gates says sell thr xbox off, I dont care. Sony loses a billion dollars again... but no one cares and still ps4 sells em for some reason. nintendo is the only company not flopp

        Cooties…

    2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

If you can’t afford a 300 dollar console, 50 bucks isn’t going to make much of a difference, to be honest.

    3. I LOVE the game pad. I use it constantly. It’s not a “gimmick” moron, it’s a “feature” and your insults to those of us that enjoy off screen and remote map game play are old.

      1. Being able to play VC games (like Advance Wars for instance) in bed on the gamepad without having to turn on the TV is a pleasant feature. No other home console can do this.

          1. Home console idiot. going into non-VC games, Try playing Super Mario 3d World on a tablet. Oh wait…

      2. Gamepad is not even a gimmick itself. Its a hardware controller with twin sticks, buttons and a touch screen which can be used as a controller. Kinect on the other hand, which was never needed in the first place, is what you call a fucking gimmick because its a PSEye knockoff in a pathetic attempt to overthrow the Wii’s motion hype. Wii Remote is also a controller too, not a gimmick.

    4. This is not the Wii.
The gamepad is worth the cost and is NOT just a useless gimmick, the system overall has a price matching its upgrades, and you have no effing clue what you’re talking about in regards to the costs or the tech inside.

Just shut up and accept that you’re too effing cheap to get a Wii U at a fair price.

  2. Well if this is the case there is no excuse for Nintendo to not have a moderately profitable year, given the releases of Mario Kart, Smash Bros (on 2 different consoles!) and Pokémon that are going to be money-spinners.

    1. pink0crystal0midbus

I’m sure if anything they’ll under manufacture. They are going to be extremely careful here.

  3. pink0crystal0midbus

Excellent… people are going to drop their jaws when they hear of Nintendo’s first economic boost. It’ll ring through the ears of Nintendo haters like a dog whistle, you know, like if Nintendo haters were dogs.

  4. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

In other words, Nintendo wil outlive the Xbots and Sonyans by a long shot…

    1. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

      Then Nintendomination.
And us Steambots and Nintendites will be laughing at the fall of the Xbot and Sonyans as they crumble into oblivion.

  5. This is good news but the Wii U need to stay in the present price range to recover losses since its release for a year or two. It may not have sold more units than the competition but at least it sees profit in every console sold.

With that said, I’m just glad that Hyrule Warriors and X are indeed seeing a 2014 release… and more games to expect for the Wii U others will only wish they can play on their preferred console…

  6. Didn’t reggie say this at the end of last year yet we still got a game drought? Maybe after e3 they will release a new game each month. May mario kart
June- end of year (hyrule warriors, bayonetta, X, smt x fe, yarn yoshi, sonic boom, smash bros, and whatever shows at e3)

They could fill in the months.

  7. The price isn’t the problem here with the console. Just look at the PS4, it costs 400 and people still buy it even with the price that high. The real problem is not having enough good games for it. So people need to stop complaining about the price of the console.

    1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

It’s not exactly games that’s the problem. It’s the lack of big name games that’s holding the Wii U back as well as bad marketing. The Wii U has plenty of games for it if you don’t mind NES/SNES/N64 type games.

      1. And yet PS4’s are selling out like crazy just for doing the opposite of what’s causing Wii U some trouble. People of today just ignorant, double standard bastards who can’t tell what the fuck they want or need anymore.

        1. Correct. I even find it funny how much people say “Sony listens to they’re fans durr hurrrrr”, when in reality, they never asked for that, its what Sony wanted and Sony did a damn hell of good job of making people think that they want something that was never needed or even asked for. In reality, no one fucking listens to they’re fans these days.

        2. people owned a wii don’t care about the wii u, they think its a 300$ wii with hd graphics. people learned their lesson from buy a wii and will not make the same mistake twice.

    2. I seriously don’t get why they’re even complaining about a $300 32GB HD Nintendo console being too expensive.

Wii U doesnt charge for online play, Wii U doesn’t hassel players to buy overpriced DLCs, season passes or those BS Microtransactions from EA and also their games are usually great in quality and some Nintendo games like DK: Troipcal Freeze or Sonic Lost World costs $50; $10 cheaper than most usually thought.

And yet somehow in their fucking minds a $400 PS4 with $50 a year subscription, minimum range of decent games and a $500 1080p-less, Kinect-forced Betamax with $60 online charge, DRM and TV focused campaigns and shit is not overpriced or offers better shit?

That proves how fucking hypocritcally stupid these so called “modern gamers” have become.

      1. the online infurstrcture is crappy and barebones,no achievements system/tropies, no one accounts, eshope drm, terrible forums(mii verse), terrible flash space memory, no usb 3.0 ports, no ethernet ports, barley any third party games, outdated graphics and specs for 2012 console and a forced gimmick with weak battery life.

        1. You know, I usually read every comment but when I see your name I just scroll downwards…aint nobody got time for your shit.

        2. Dumb-ass.
There IS an account system on the Wii U, it just doesn’t work like the others, the achievement system/trophies isn’t necessary unless you really care THAT much about your pathetic little E-Peen contests, the flash space is offset by the ability to use external storage, the 3.0 port isn’t needed, the ethernet ports being gone don’t severely detriment the console, the graphics are just fucking fine unless you’re an elitist little BITCH, the console has A TON of third party games from both AAA studios and indies, and to top it all off, the gamepad’s battery is easily replaced by a better one, and its “gimmick” gives it MORE FUNCTIONS THAN YOUR CRAP-TASTIC ORDINARY CONTROLLERS COULD EVER DREAM OF HANDLING.

          Welcome to Owned Town.
Population: You and everyone as stupid as you.

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

xD I wish sasori would respond to posts like these just to see what stupid shit he comes up with then.

  8. There are plenty of games on wii u the only drought people talk about is the games that appears on xbox one and ps4 but are the games that are released on those consoles really that good to bash the wii u because most games on those machines I wouldn’t buy even if I had all three machines the wii u appeals to me more and I buy games I like not what am supposed to like

  9. Honestly, seems hard to believe. They’ve told us about the loss of 20-something billion yen due to the weak performance of the WiiU just yesterday, and now, all of a sudden, they won’t be making any loss with it anymore? Seems fishy to me. Or am I misunderstanding something?

    1. The loss was for the whole fiscal year.
Also, just because they are not selling WiiU at a loss anymore doesn’t mean they wont still lose money. That’s just comparing how much $$ is put into WiiU hardware vs how much $$ they sell it at retail. But it doesn’t take into account other business expenses to keep the company running like paying employees, taxes, and other thing like R&D and marketing.

    1. Think again; Sega DIED because they kept replacing consoles when they didn’t immediately start selling.
      Nintendo won’t make that mistake.

      GO LEARN YOUR GAMING HISTORY.

      1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

If he’s like the other people I’m thinking of, he, or she, won’t. In fact, they want Nintendo to make that huge mistake, so Nintendo can destroy its reputation & go 3rd party, allowing them to buy the Nintendo games they obviously love for their preferred console.

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

If they have stated this, good. I’d love to see how well the video game market does without Nintendo. Maybe when it crashes, the haters will scream for Nintendo to save them. lol I just thought about Rorschach’s line from The Watchmen.

“Rorschach’s Journal. October 12th, 1985: Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout “Save us!”… and I’ll whisper “no.””

  10. Dude its not new hardware iwata stated yesterday during the meeting that they wont replace the wii u for atleast 2 maybe 3 years lol look it up from the investors meeting

    1. And the rest. There are games coming out next year as well, so don’t just go writing the system off like that.

    1. They announced selling the Wii U at a loss long ago, seems like it took this long before it can ve profitable again.

  11. kids grow out your “kiddy” games quick, no wounder many kids shifted to ps3, xbox 360, tablets and pc’s. kids have sick of your stupid decisions, weak hardware, rehashed games and may be “kiddy games”. by the age 10-12 kids would have gotten sick of you nintendon’t.

    1. So following your logic Japanese kids are smarter because almost nobody buy xbox 360 there lol!!!

  12. Awesome news! Whooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a good thing that Nintendo is trying to return profits so that they can working on the next gen console and handheld. woot!
