SEGA has released brand new information concerning Sonic’s next endeavour which is exclusive to Nintendo consoles. The Wii U and 3DS versions for Sonic Boom will offer two different gaming experiences, with each offering a unique and immersive storyline set in the same universe.
Developed by Big Red Button, the Wii U version will be titled Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, featuring cutting-edge 3D game technology from Crytek’s engine. Gameplay on the home console version will focus on over-the-top speed runs, though intense combat and new abilities – such as the Enerbeam, which gives players an energy-charged cord to navigate the world in interesting ways – will act as the heart and soul of the game.
On the other hand, the 3DS version – developed by Sanzaru Games – will be titled Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal and is a standalone adventure game that shares key characters, events and lore from the Sonic Boom universe. Fans will be able play as Sticks, who will act as an integral role in the events for the 3DS game.
Both games will feature Sonic and friends teaming up against the new and extremely powerful villain Lyric – a gigantic snake-like creature from an ancient race. With a robotic body of armour, Lyric won’t be defeated easily, so you’ll have to work as a team with Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks and capitalise on each character’s abilities. SEGA America’s Sonic chief content officer Hiroyuki Miyazaki said the following in support:
“This is a new Sonic, with gameplay built on action-adventure and collaborative play. They are unlike any previous games featuring the iconic blue blur. We are looking forward to our first hands-on showcase at E3 for fans old and new alike to experience the exploration, combat and new moves for the entire team.”

This game keeps on sounding better and better. I can’t wait to add it to my Wii U collection later on.
Looks like this shit game is shaping up to be a true mediocre Sonic game. Slow pacing, repetitive combat, generic bosses. Just as I expected! I can’t wait to see this game fail just like Sonic Flop World!
Nice
I actually prefer the 3ds version to be honest……lol.
looks like an actual sonic game I want!!!!(apart from racing)
oh my, I love the concept art, it’s splendid *-*
I’m more interested in the WiiU one
I hope this is good. You know, I really should give Sonic Lost World a try. I know people have been disappointed with it and all, but it really can’t be that bad! I played the demo level all the way until I had no more uses! I think I will give it a try. I just have to.
its an amazin game! buy it! you wont regret it :)
Actually I take it back, the graphics look crap, doesn’t even look as good as Rachet and Clank Nexus, and this is no sonic game, sonic uses hand to hand combat now lol
What a joke hahahaha another sonic flop like the last one, I’m not getting this.
Maybe you should think before saying anything that you would take back.
Hmmm…
I was impressed at the CryEngine-enhanced graphics in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. I’m getting the Wii U version in support of Big Red Button Entertainment.
Am I the only one who thinks that Lyric (the new Sonic villain) looks cool?
It’s been a while since there was a reptilian character in the Sonic universe other than Vector the Crocodile.
FIND THE COMPUTER ROOM
It appears that Lyric found it before Vector already. XD
HE DESTROYED THE COMPUTER ROOM
Someone made the video private…
Apparently they weren’t appose to show footage, oops
Can someone link me to the footage? It says the video is private and I didn’t get to see the footage.
I’ve updated with the non-private video.
I like Sticks, she’s a cool badger and doesn’t afraid of anything
This is the first time I’ve given a crap about a Sonic game in a long time. Here’s hoping for a demo!
Here’s the Wii U Sonic Boom gameplay.

I’ll likely get both if they offer different play-styles. That’s one of the strengths of Nintendo handhelds: when they get a game that’s also releasing on consoles, it usually offers a different perspective & sometimes proves to be a better experience. So hopefully, both Sonic Booms will set themselves apart from each other enough to warrant purchasing both. I mean, they should compensate for 3DS’ “lower” tech specs by being both unique & creative, even more so than on Wii U. To me, portability is irrelevant & simply having differing stories or characters won’t be enough for what would be roughly $100 to have both.
Oh trust me. It’ll be worth it.
Was Sonic 06 worth it?
So sonic fights now ? Interesting choice. I know that countless people will be turned off by this because of the fact they aren’t open minded. It looks like it has potential if they divide equal amounts of time to speed and platforming. Looks more and more like the sonic adventure games so I’ll most likely purchase
The video is Private?
Don’t worry guys the footage is right here

You are welcome :D
The 3DS version looks like classic Sonic, which is great. The Wii U version does not look good…actually reminds me of a less glitchy Sonic 06, what with the clunky free roaming gameplay.
I suggest you should give the Wii U version a chance. What you’re watching is just a game in progress and not even 100% complete. I assure you that Big Red Button will adjust the visuals and game play in Rise of Lyric and I assure that it will be completely balanced.
Me: Sticks? Who is that?
Sticks: Me! xD *raises boomerang*
Me: You look like a amy version of Silver with a boomerang…no offence.
Sticks: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me”.
Me: Oh yeah….”your fat”
Sticks: GASP NO I’M NOT!!! *cries*
Me: “Word can never hurt you” eh?
Still, this game is turning out good.
How does this guy talk so fast without getting tongue-tied?
*sigh* I’ll never be a Sonic fan. EVER.
Why are you showing us this Sonic 06 footage? That’s so 2003.
I think SEGA is forgetting why people liked sonic games for so long. It was about the speed and getting from point A to point B. Adding combat systems breaks the idea of what Sonic games were about, yes killing enemies is fun, but when you stop the action to add a fight section your going a little too far from the original purpose of Sonic.
What made past Sonic games good was the level design. It facilitated speed, while forcing you not to rely on it completely with good platforming mechanics and the occasional level gimmick. Also, the character designs didn’t completely suck ass.
auuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu <3
Can it be? Am I… Am I excited for a Sonic game? This is a feeling I have not felt for a long time.
