Nintendo revealed details about three of its biggest games of 2015: The Legend of Zelda, Mario Maker and Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.
Nintendo game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma appeared via video at The Game Awards in Las Vegas on Dec. 5 to walk through some of the new game play of the Wii U installment of The Legend of Zelda franchise. Miyamoto and Aonuma showed off some visually stunning graphics, as well as the vastness of the world. Players can pinpoint locations on the map on the Wii U GamePad, which then appear as beacons in the game as an aid to navigation. The duo also showed off the gliding Sailcloth item, as well as how Epona, Link’s horse, does not need to be directed through every step of her path. Epona will avoid trees and obstacles, just as a real horse would do, leaving Link’s hands free to wield his sword or shoot arrows.
The public got its first look at Mario Maker for Wii U during the E3 video game trade show in June, and new details about the game, which lets users create their own Mario levels, were announced at The Game Awards. This includes the ability to tap the Wii U GamePad screen to change the look of the level design to a number of classic styles, including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U. Each style includes game mechanics unique to the original game, such as ground-pound or wall-jump maneuvers. Players can integrate these mechanics into designs for the various titles featured in the game. This game will launch in 2015, which will be the 30thanniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game.
Nintendo also revealed a March 13 launch date for Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. for Nintendo 3DS and announced a multiplayer mode that lets players compete against one another in local and online matches.
The event also featured performances from legendary Nintendo composer Koji Kondo. Nintendo won four awards, including Developer of the Year, Best Fighting Game for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Best Sports/Racing Game for Mario Kart 8 and Best Family Game for Mario Kart 8. Nintendo also congratulates its third-party partner Yacht Club Games, which won Best Independent Game for Shovel Knight, which is available in the Nintendo eShop on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
Nothing for Bayonetta 2. Show was rigged
Tis a shame Bayonetta 2 didn’t get an award, but I kinda felt that coming with all the other games announced as nominees. I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy win to pull off.
At least Nintendo walked out with a bag full of them.
Yes, it clearly is rigged since it isn’t like the actual gamers were the ones voting but media sites. We all know how corrupt that is… So no surprise there.
They really should let the actual players vote instead of gaming websites next time. It would be much cooler, but I’m not sure if it would pan out any better.
Call of Duty would probably win every award if that were the case… lol exaggerating, but you get the point.
Eh, I think it’s fair. If you let the general people vote instead of professionals who play every game for a living, it becomes a popularity contest.
For comparison, in America, people don’t actually vote for their presidents directly. It was believed back in the day that letting people vote for their presidents would lead to unqualified people going into the office. Instead, we vote on representatives for an electoral college that indirectly vote for us.
And that’s what’s wrong with VGA. Fans are mostly split between rational and fanboys but mostly fanboys.

How was it rigged? Nintendo won four awards. You really think Bayonetta was gonna be GOTY? That goes to show you don’t play a variety of other games. Because I said Dragon Age was going to be GOTY and look what happened. It was true and well deserved.
bayonetta 2 is already out and flopping. so yeah, nothing about it. even though its a great game in quality.
How so when we don’t even know the solid numbers yet. At this point, it could’ve sold over a million by now for all we know which we don’t.

Not to mention Twitch Plays Pokemon won a award.
Shovel Knight is also on PC so we can’t really count it as a Nintendo win.

Its good but like most card based games, always come with newer fancy better cards that outshine old cards in every way.Basically pay if you want to stay competive.Also if you are a new player good luck if you want to win without paying anything now that most decks have legendaries.
B2 could sell 10 copies it is still a better game then anything on xb1 or ps4.

It was way better than the years before it, I can’t deny that. I don’t think I can ever get used to Geoff Keighley personally, he gets under my skin.
I do give him mad respect for paying for The Game Awards with his own money. He even thought about trying kickstarter but he said he wanted it to be all on his shoulders to prove he could do it, which I do respect greatly. Shows this big aren’t cheap or easy to set up. That is very ballsy and very, very risky. I may not like him myself and many other people probably don’t either, but you have to respect that at least.
If it didn’t pay off, he put a lot on the line for this show. It appears he must be passionate about video games, even if he comes off the wrong way sometimes.
So kudos to him for trying his damndest, even if it doesn’t always work out in his favor.
Thr show was better than last year but still sucked.A lot of teasers, lot of talking nnonsense, also games that show some gameplay were 5 min long at most.
Only games worth it were order, no mans sky, mario maker, zelda, witcher, mgsv which all together make 25 min I think.I wished I had skipped and watch only the trailers.

Just because Bayonetta 2 didn’t win doesn’t mean it’s unworthy. The fact that it beat out other contenders in being nominated for GOY is enough and Nintendo should be proud of that. Especially after saving a franchise from being scrapped forever. The recognition is there and I’m happy with that even if it didn’t win.
What, nothing for Pokemon? It sold over 7.7 million units since it came out last month and NOTHING? What is wrong with them…
They merely see it as a “remaster” and annual Pokemon game but they still praise The Last of Us and Call of Duty for the same BS.

Aso the game awards was pretty good and the end was awesome when koji kondo was playing the piano playing songs from majoras mask was epic made me think of my childhood days playing majoras mask on my n64

The new Legend of Zelda looked amazing! I even saw a deer. A DEER! I can tell it still needs work but it looks AMAZING! Then there’s the fact that they teased Starfox U’s release next year. x3 Next year is going to be awesome… That is all…

This show took took last year’s VGX awards behind the tool shed and whipped the shit out of it. It had 100% less Jioel McHale and Geoff Keighly obviously gets how to show how sophisticated and impactful this industry can be. Hats off to you Mr. Keighly. Very well done!
