Minecraft: Story Mode Announced For All Platforms Minus Nintendo

The Walking Dead developers TellTale Games have announced that they’ve partnered up with Mojang to create Minecraft: Story Mode for every current platform going except the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. The game will be coming to Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices sometime next year. You can read the details about the announcement, here.

  • Minecraft: Story mode will be a narrative-driven video game created by Telltale Games. It will be about Minecraft.
  • Mojang is collaborating with Telltale and members of the community to make Minecraft: Story Mode as Minecrafty as possible.
  • The first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices.
  • Minecraft: Story Mode will be released episodically, just like The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, or the recent Tales from the Borderlands, which is another developer-collaboration series between Telltale Games and Gearbox Software.
  • We’re not intending on creating an “official” story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail. It will be a cool game.
  • The Minecraft 2 thing was a joke. No really. It was a joke.

As 2014 comes to a close, we are delighted to confirm our partnership with Mojang to create a new episodic game series based on one of the most popular video games in history – Minecraft.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.

Telltale’s game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.

      1. normal mc would be cool on wii U and 3ds because you could have the inventory open at all times but i’ve already put the idea in the grave.

besides minecraft pc will always be the best.

  1. Now that’s just a dick move, it would cost them close to nothing to make another port. Also, while I have a really good eye for TellTale games, I can’t really see how this is a great mix. Well, well, let’s wait and see.

      1. Are you sure ? Considering both Minecraft and Telltale’ games are on the Vita, I’d say it’s likely that it might come to the platform.
I’ve read through Mojang and Telltale’s posts about the game, and both said “Sony consoles” + “mobile devices”, I couldn’t find anything that eliminates the possibility of a Vita version. If there’s another article deconfirming it though, then that’s a different story of course.

      1. Thank you, now I can’t focus on my work anymore… But really, this is amazing, they better watch out for Iwata!

    1. It shows how every company is blasting us out of left field. No worries, things will turn around once the new Legend of Zelda game comes out…………………..;)

        1. That’s why I had the wink face. It’s an inside joke that we talk about how the Wii U will turn things around after every big Nintendo game. To an extent…I think it has turned around a little bit and the sales are actually respectable now. I just like to poke a little fun at it :)

          1. do not feed the fucking trolls :(
and your comment made me think you must be a sodomite and you both enjoy each other XD

                1. man, i have told you all that there must be at least 4, 5 or more people making fun of sasori and commenting like him and apparently sasori himself comments as the church when he can. why the hell the comments from the church stopped when he apparently left the site?, why some make fun of robin williams?. multiple accounts, multiple trolls. The anonymous that reply to your comments is not the same most of the time. do not feed them!!!
Personally, i find funny how they satirize sasori. after all, is what trolls do. they are trolls, they use multiple accounts. i want the anon to reply my comment

            1. do not start a discussion. if he likes to hurt his own ass, that is not your bussiness.
he does not like to be burned and will find whatever to hide that fact

    1. My thoughts exactly, i like Xbox division of MS but honestly the way they allow their exclusives to be released for PC and now even their IP to competing platform is a fucking ridicilous.

    2. I’m guessing it’s because Minecraft has been on those platforms already before Microsoft bought it. Suddenly dropping support would get them a lot of negative publicity + money loss, which they wouldn’t want, I’d say.
Well, that’s what I would assume, at least.

  2. Anonymous, a zealot of nintendo

They just don’t see Nintendo consoles as profitable. I can’t blame them. Then again, Telltale is supporting Ouya and Sony’s handheld, lol.

    1. well then they’re wrong.. why would a minecraft game not be ideal for the wii u and its gamepad? how on earth is macOS a more profitable *game*platform than the wii u?

  3. Takerkaneanite619 PLC LTD

And this has been reported on because??? If it’s not coming on Nintendo systems, then there’s no need to constantly write articles on how certain games will not come on Nintendo systems. First couple of times, fine. But now this is overkill. Also, the Wii U wouldn’t do as well without much 3rd party support as Nintendo wanted, but with it’s First and Second party line up, the Wii U will do fine enough. AKA, sell more than Gamecube at least…

  4. This is getting way out of hand for Nintendo, i dont like Minecraft but losing support is a bad thing. Honestly how are they even gonna fix this whole situation, because even if they did somekinda powerful system with traditional controller, i still dont believe that stupid ass gamers would even give them a chance.

Its a combination of Nintendo not giving a shit about 3rd parties back in the day, Gamers not giving a shit about Nintendo and Nintendo fanboys not giving a shit about 3rd party titles that has led to this.

    1. This isn’t Nintendo fault. TellTale obviously dislikes the company, and there is nothing Nintendo can do about it.

That said, I really can’t stand these “episodic adventures”. Everybody else seems to love them for some reason.

A “choose your own adventure story”, where no gameplay is allowed, just isn’t that fun for me. And they are two hours long at best? So you play a two hour long cartoon, just to have to wait months for two more hours? Ridiculous.

        1. I find that hard to believe. Thier games would sale just fine on the Wii U and and 3ds. Not to mention the cheap costs to port it over. So yea, i’ll stick with my original comment and say that there is definitely bias going on.

          1. It’s not cheap to develop for the Wii U. That’s what reports from other devs have been saying, and there have been no developer so far who has claimed to find great success on Wii U only

        2. I think there is a chance it’s political. If Minecraft, a game obsessed about by kids in Nintendo’s age range, is skilling Nintendo, it’s deliberate. Someone is paying someone to keep it off Nintendo platforms. (IMO)

      1. A choose your own adventure game where your choices ultimately seem to matter little or at all. I really don’t see why every Telltale game is such a big thing.

        1. Your choices always changes the game dramatically. Maybe your didn’t know that because you only played through once?

      2. Months? When walking dead season 1 came out, every episode was a month apart. Season 2 was 2 months because they had a wolf among us coming out too

    2. If Nintendo Does make a powerful, easy to develop for system with a traditional controller with marketing like the old days, I’m sure plenty of gamers would flock to them. They also have to get third parties to develop for the console obviously

      1. The WiiU has a traditional controller and it is powerful enough. The only thing different about the controller is the touch screen and developers aren’t even required to use it.

        1. So why add the GamePad touchscreen there? That’s definitely not a traditional controller. No one’s even bothering to use it now. Its a waste of time trying to find some map to program it in nowadays.

If devs don’t use it they’ll get criticized by gamers and reviewers alike. If they do use it they have to spend precious $$ on R&D to make it worthwhile and to optimize the entire game all over again

The Wii U’s a fucking 7.5 gen console. That’s not “powerful enough”. People always say “herp derp Wii U games look games look so awesome look you can even see DK’s fur even on weak hardware”. What people don’t realize is what Nintendo can do with even more graphical power

    1. It’s an easy win for tell tale. Just like The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. Tell Tale is going after I.P.’s that are extremely popular with a huge fanbase. Can’t say I blame them really. Good business strategy.

  5. “announced for all platforms minus Nintendo”
then why is it on My NINTENDO news.?
Also, this is a little ridiculous. I don’t like Minecraft that much but it practically shares the same target audience as Nintendo’s first party titles. It would’ve been perfect on Wii U OR 3DS.

    1. The 3DS would barely be able to handle Minecraft. And don’t twll me about the graphics bullshit, there’s much more in Minecraft than most people know

      1. I disagree. The 3ds can handle games like Resident Evil, Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, etc. etc. Minecraft could easily be optimized for the 3ds.

        1. I’ve played it on the VITA, and it’s struggling to run the game. I don’t like 3DS’s chances. Wii U maybe, but the PS4 can’t even support infinite worlds and some other content from PC

  6. Does anyone even remember Minecraft in the old days? I don’t want to sound cliche, but Minecraft was cool… before it was cool. So, now its not.

P.S. Any title with MINECRAFT on it will make millions these days. It’s a cash grab.

  7. You know, they’re just rubbing it in at this point. I wish Minecraft would come to the Wii U and 3DS, but 4J/Mojang hates Nintendo.

Before you say it’s not profitable, they put it on the Vita.

    THE VITA.

(also they put it on the Raspberry Pi)

  8. On the bright side, at least this proves Microsoft’s not forcing Mojang to be exclusive to Microsoft platforms (why are you guys making this out to be a bad thing?).

If I know any better, however, I’d expect it to be run within Telltale’s in-house adventure game engine. It’s possible to run said game engine (or at least an earlier incarnation of it) on the original Wii. Therefore, it should be theoretically possible to run said game engine on the Wii U.

They must have their own reasons why they’re not willing to publish it for Nintendo consoles. I wouldn’t any speculations at face value if I were you, even my own. After all, the true reason could be anything.

  9. In battle you can make a truce and join forces with the enemy in order to take out a bigger common enemy… After the truce is over then you resume your war with your old enemy……

They are trying to kill Nintendo, bit Nintendo has been through worse situations.

    1. I didn’t know there were so many drama fans here… They aren’t trying to kill Nintendo for fuck’s sake. You should read your own comment, it sounds so stupid. The actual answer is really obvious

    1. Oh boy, now you’re gonna start replying to all the comments here and I have to argue the same old shit all over again

  10. hope they still suport the old minecraft. hope this will be fun. it needs to be animated, if it is not and just used the modles, then this is stupid. but it should be fun. i think if you own the pc version you get the first episode free

  11. This article is just more troll bate, it has NOTHING to do with NINTENDO, Why is this article even on this site ?!? . Could you please just stick to the subject of NINTENDO !!??!! Games Not coming to NINTENDO SYSTEMS are NOT News for a NINTENDO Site .

  12. Are you kidding me? There’s no reason Telltale doesn’t want to support Wii U other than they want it to make them lots of money. Still have high respect for their titles though

  13. Minecraft sucks balls anyway, dude is like …”one of the greatest games ever:Minecraft “. If that was me saying I’d feel like a total dumb fuck.

  14. No dip its not coming to Wii U. Mojang is owned by microsoft now and unless Microsoft makes Minecraft for Wii U or 3DS, it would never have come to a Nintendo platform.

Its only coming to Sony platforms, because of a contract. Thats it.

  15. is it actualy minecraft or is it some lame game telling you what to do where to go ect. because if it is NO ONE WILL BUY IT
