Capcom Says A Lot Of Effort Went Into The Western Version Of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate localization director Andrew Alfonso has explained in a lengthy blog post over at the official Capcom blog that a lot of effort has gone into localizing the game for the west. Alfonso says that one of the differences this time around is that he sat in on meetings when the original game was being developed. In the blog post, Alfonso also says that they have changed numerous things for western audiences including the UI and tutorials, but these changes are subtle. Here’s a snippet of what he had to say on the Capcom blog.

“We started planning the localization of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate around September 2013, when the Japanese version of Monster Hunter 4 was released, Alfonso says. He goes on to add that, the reason these games take so long to localize is that Monster Hunter actually has more text than Ace Attorney and Dragon’s Dogma, despite suggestions that there isn’t all that much text.”

“Another thing we did with MH4U that we couldn’t do with MH3U is related to the UI and tutorials,” Alfonso writes. “We were able to tinker with them in ways that we weren’t able to do in the past. We consulted with MH4U director Kaname Fujioka and lead designer Yuya Tokuda about what we wanted to do for the western release and received their blessing to change the UI and tutorials in subtle ways that will make the experience smoother for players overseas.”

    1. More than that, Monster Hunter 4 is nearing 2 years now. I believe the game was announced back in 2011 around the 3ds launch.

  1. Sir Isaac Newton of Judah

    MH4U, what more can be said. Nintendo is ruling 2015 as well :). 3DS eight generation greatness.

    F=ma.

  2. Was there so much effort put into it that it’s coming to the Wii U like the previous installment? I didn’t think so.

  3. I already have the Limited Edition of this game pre-ordered, even though there’s STILL no release date confirmation here in America.

    That being said, I’m playing MH3 on my Wii U a couple of hours every day, so I don’t really mind the wait.

    In MH3U, I’m working on getting all 44 Guild Card Awards. I’m presently at 31, and working extensively on the “Artisan’s Hammer” award.

  4. I agree on a Wii U version, this game is too intense for a handheld. Especially if you plan on playing for a while. Fuck I’d even accept a PS4 version. You know, if they are concerned about sales.

  5. Ubisoft is much worse. They had so many disappointing games in 2014. The Crew was a flop, AC Unity was broken, Far Cry 4 was simply reused assets from Far Cry 3 with a different story, Watch Dogs was over hyped, not to mention AC Rouge that also completely bombed. I don’t see how they can keep afloat with so much mediocrity…. I did not buy a single Ubisoft game in 2014 and I don’t understand why people buy thier games at all.

    Capcom at least has the MH series, which is one of my favorite series btw. They also still control the Mega Man I.P… Thats a lot more than I could say for Ubisoft..

      1. Very true. And there are far too many imbeciles out there buying this garbage. So UBI don’t see their profits take a nosedive and they will continue with their poor and mediocre games policy.

        EA must be worried that their “worst gaming company” crown is about to be stolen.

  6. To The Collector, don’t. Monster Hunter is a game about collecting. So if you want to continue collecting, don’t get this game. It’s too addictive.
