Believe it or not, Sonic Generations was originally scheduled to be released for both the Wii and the Nintendo DS. The news was discovered by Unseen64 who mention that a rep for Sega disclosed that Sonic Generations was meant to come to Wii, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo DS. As we know the game only came out on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. There was also a handheld version for the Nintendo 3DS, which didn’t receive very good reviews. The Wii and DS versions were thought to be cancelled not long into development.
Thanks, AMGZant

Well had it been on the Wii I would have never gotten a 360 to begin with. :l
LOL… you got a 360 _just_ for Sonic Generations…?
I was a big Sonic fan back in the day and still am today. Why do you think I got a Nintendo Wii or Smash Bros? Basically Sonic ruled my life….
Hehe that’s awesome
“As we know the game only came out on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.”
Uh… are we forgetting the best version? The PC version?
How the fuck was that the best version?
The HUGE amount of mods made by the community, and not to mention it runs at 60 FPS, my friend.
Mods = the original game sucked for the spoiled inbreeds…
It doesn’t mean the game sucked. It just means you are getting extra content for an already good game. Mods can add tons of replayabilty to games. Sonic Generations is a rather short game but mods make it worth playing through it again and again.
Which is my point, mods are for those that did not like the original made game…
It’s like me using Mods for a Metroid Prime game if I didn’t quite like it, it’s for the spoiled that do not appreciate a game as it was made…
To each their own but a modded game should not be comparable to original games…
How was it not the best version? It looks and runs way better and there are countless mods for it.
60 fps, fast loading times, a huge amount of mods.
*cough* *cough* 3DS *sarcastic cough*

Would you guys get a Villager amiibo for $32, shipping included?
Nah, just wait nintendo will make more amiibos but if you can’t wait at all, then yeah, it’s a pretty good deal considering its rarity
Considering that Villager is hard to find, I think that price would probably be worth it. If you really want Villager then you should go for it. I probably wouldn’t though. As far as I know Villager can only be used for Smash Bros. I’d probably just spend that $30 on two other amiibo that can be used for many games like Link and Mario.
Exactly, I only have one amiibo (Link) because it was available and I didn’t want a Mario amiibo. The only other amiibo that has caught my eye is Yoshi…
I’d wait because I can honestly see Nintendo releasing a load of animal crossing amiibo when it most likely comes out this year. I do have one myself! :-)
I want the specific Smash one though because I’m trying to just get all the Smash ones and I’m done with Amiibo. Too much money to get the other series lol
They should make a portable sequel that celebrates Sonic’s handheld games with Sonic 1 & 2, Chaos, Triple Trouble, the Advance games, and both Rush games.
We want a Wii U port!
We want a Wii U exclusive Sequel, with stages such as Emerald Hill from Sonic 2 among others. The storyline could be that Sonic used the Chaos Emeralds to time travel to the present day (like in Sonic 06,) to meet up with Modern Sonic with Tails and slyly, Dr Robotnik, following Sonic into the future, maybe in the middle of a boss battle between Modern Sonic and Dr Eggman from a previous game and the destraction could cause Robotnik and Eggman to join forces and take out the 2 Sonics, sending them back in time, where they have to collect Chaos Emerald from that time period, each Chaos Emerald being tossed into each different time period (Sonic 1 in it’s own time period, Sonic 2 in a different time period, etc.) They collect that period’s respective Chaos Emerald wher it only has enough power to take them forward a few years, until they reach the present day again and stop Eggman and Robotnik in ther own separate fights, before both Sonics and Both Eggman’s team up against each other in the final showdown. The structure could be for each Zone, Classic Sonic stage, Modern Sonic stage and Boss Battle level.
Before anybody rips me apart for such a terrible idea, I say yes, this is way too far fetched and will most likely never happen…
Or just a good Sonic game… It’s like Sonic Team rolls some dice to decide which Sonic game will be good or not. Some games can be good (Colors, Generations, possibly Lost World) and some can be very, very, VERY bad (Shadow, ’06 trilogy- ’06, Secret Rings, Black Knight-, and Sonic Boom, despite it being made by BRB).
That’s ashame. I own the 3DS version and seen the HD version and I thought that it would have been awesome if Sonic Generations was on Wii. In terms of graphics and how beautiful Sonic Colors looked on the Wii, the differnce would have only came from Wii being in Standard Definition and PS3/360/PC version being in High Definition, with only some slight downgrades.
Plus, the Wii could run the cutscenes and the controls could have been a selling point about how many different ways you can control Modern and Classic Sonic.
If that wasn’t enough, there could have been a bigger increase in Sonic Generations sales if it was on Wii, given that a lot of Sega fans at least owned the Wii.
Maybe this explains why there was that cutscene in the game where after Sonic saved Tails after Green Hill where Tails says how this was strange and Sonic talked about rescuing genies in books and saving alians in an Interstellar Amuzement Park. Referencing games that were Wii exclusive, (Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic Colors.) Maybe this left in from that stage of development.
Maybe Sega thought that they had released enough Sonic games on Wii and DS and wanted to focus on the other systems that hadn’t recieved much Sonic love.
In conclusion, yes I am disappointed that Sonic Generations wasn’t released on the Wii. I would have loved to play the 3D Modern Sonic stages, like the Console and PC versions, as opposed to the Boost To Win 2D Modern Sonic stages found in the 3DS version and wasn’t going to buy one of the other consoles just for 1 game. Sure it sucks, but I’m sure that Sega had a good reason to skip the Wii and DS with this gem of a game and let me say this, poor hardware sales, is most certainly NOT one of them…
It probably wouldn’t have ended up that way with a Wii version. Look at how Unleashed Wii turned out and how Secret Rings/06 turned out. Its not just downgrading its got to be built up from the ground up or at least thats what it seems like. Its stretching Sonic Team too thin if they have to do that and then they have to rely on other studios like Dimps which they did for the 3DS, DS, and Wii versions of some of their recent games. Secret Rings had split half the studio up and both it and Sonic 06 suffered for it. Sega seems to have Sonic Team on a pretty tight schedule since we get games so often compared to what Nintendo does with their main franchises and they always seem to come out near the holidays now which I think is something that has really hurt the recent home console games. Despite people treating the series like a punching bag for jokes in the US its still a hugely successful franchise, Sega knows that so they want games out in time for the holidays so quality doesn’t always matter. I’m really glad Generations came out the way it did because who knows how much different it would be if they had tried to release it for every console under the sun.
So why didn’t it Sega?
Strange it only came out to PS3 and 360, cuz I only remember playing the PC-version :P Jkjk. Greatest game of last generation… Generation… LOL
Wait a minute………….it WASN’T on Wii or DS? I could have sworn it was.
You might’ve been thinking about Sonic Colors then.
Possibly. Or I might be thinking of when I seen the PS3 Sonic Generations at Wal-Mart. I just didn’t realize there was ever a Sonic game in recent years that didn’t release on Nintendo’s consoles.
I kinda feel bad for getting the 3DS version of this only… I would have gotten the 360 version or PS3 version if I had it at the time.
played the 3ds and hated it. i plan on eventually playing 360 version or pc version
They are basically the same, why would you waste resources for a game you hate?…
The 3DS and the 360 version are nowhere near the same.
Different levels and bosses doesn’t make it a very different game if it plays the same which is basically does…
It does not play the same.
The 3DS and PC/360/PS3 versions are *very* different, aside from bosses and stages.
Classic and Modern Sonic levels are both all-2D on the 3DS whereas the console version Modern Sonic levels had 3D sections. Console versions have Trial Mode (or something named similarly) where players try to get as far through a level as they can in 30 seconds- 3DS has no such thing. Missions are different per version. And the 3DS has exclusive bonus levels akin to the ones found in Sonic Heroes- music and all.
I have the PC version and let me say, it beats the 3DS version by miles.
Moron
Generations was pretty good on the 3DS, but Sonic games haven’t been good in a while. I liked the Lost Rings and Generations, but haven’t picked up a Sonic game since. (Skipped Colors)
You shouldn’t have skipped Colors. Lol.
To bad so sad for Sega because Sonic Generations would have sold oogles and oogles on the original Wii. Probably the DS as well.
This is incredibly old news. Back when the game was leaked as Sonic Anniversary, it was already confirmed to be coming for those platforms.
