Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D Features Significant Changes To The Swimming Mechanic

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will feature a number of changes in comparison to the original N64 title, including a significant redesign for the swimming mechanic. In a recently uploaded video by GameXplain, which is embedded above, fans will find that Link’s ability to swim is now much more seamless. Rather than bumping into objects and columns, Link can now skirt past obstacles easily, though he’ll be travelling at a much slower pace.

Swimming in Majora’s Mask on the N64 was often a wonderful experience, corkscrews and diving were fluid and worked in conjunction with Link’s quick pace. However, the 3DS remake will now limit what you can and can’t do in the water with Link’s magic gauge. No longer limitless, you’ll have to plan ahead your corkscrew sequences. The redesigned swimming mechanic also joins the feather statues for saving and an altered Bomber’s notebook. Let us know what you think of the recent change and how it may affect your play style in the comment section below.

  1. Reading the description, I was quite worried… but the video makes it look not bad at all. I’m okay with this I think

      1. The nintendo magistrate

It does sound plausible but either way im still getting the physical version even though nintendo gave me the gave as a download

  2. That’s what I was afraid of remakes, remodeling the structure. Yeah it could help you navigate through tight areas, but it could’ve been changed differently. Though it still works, this broke the expectation of the game, that I rather wait for price drop or hoping releasing a HD 60FPS remake that’s trir to the original, but won’t happen soon :(

  3. Pre-order..CANCELLED
(Jk, but this is a bit dissapointing. I wish there was some way to change it in the settings.)

  4. Wt a shame they took out the only thing that was cool about the zora mask. I loved swimmin around like a boss. Now your gna tel me I can only swim fast for a couple seconds. I would rather have had it stay the way it was before

  5. There are more than just three little changes! in the new Majora’s Mask you’ll be able to use the c-nub to look around 360 degrees. Also now when playing the Song of TIme you can choose which exact hour you want to go.

    1. Yea I feel you heavily on this one. Tired of so many newer games being made easier for people. As much as I will enjoy this remake, some of the features are clearly just there people who can’t invest the time into the game.

  6. I can’t play this game… I just literally can’t. I downloaded it on the Wii and spent around 5 or 6 hours trying to like it. I realize this is just my own opinion, but I don’t really care for this game. February 13th just marks the day I get my new 3DS and Monster Hunter 4.

  7. I’m just gonna trust that it’s for the better. The other changes all seem pretty good, and quite honestly even though fast swimming was fun, it was pretty much useless outside of the bay. Not my favorite change, but it’s not a deal breaker or anything.

    1. Honestly I can’t remember using the swimming mechanics very deeply other than a few places where it’s needed to access certain places and extras. I’m so damn stoked for MM.

  9. Ridley, the Angel of Death

The fact we have to use magic to be able to swim like in the original would be terrible… if we didn’t have Romani’s special milk that makes magic unlimited for the entire 3 day cycle. So if I ever feel like mindlessly swimming around in Great Bay, I know exactly what to do.

“Romani’s special milk” I just realized how dirty that might sound to those that don’t know any better. lol
