The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL have kicked off with some healthy numbers during its first two days on sale. The new handheld consoles have sold approximately 335,000 units across the U.S and Europe, according to Nintendo’s financial results briefing published today. Roughly 175k of the New Nintendo 3DS XL were sold in the U.S, while Europe tallied around 160k in sales from both models.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata explained during the financial results briefing that sales of the standard 3DS XL dropped during the launch week, with fans eagerly purchasing the newer models, as can be seen in the graph embedded above. Of course, the graph also includes the exclusive Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate hardware editions, both of which sold out prior to the launch date. Iwata said the following:
Here are our preliminary sales figures for New Nintendo 3DS launched last Friday in each region, and we are comparing the sales for the first two days to those of Nintendo 3DS XL. At the end of last year, some video game enthusiasts, who actively gather information on video games, held off on buying Nintendo 3DS hardware in anticipation of the New Nintendo 3DS launch. Thanks to these consumers and some highly anticipated titles being released simultaneously, we had a good launch despite it not being the usual sales season. Our next challenge is to keep this sales momentum.
As you can see here, we also launched special-edition hardware on that day. I have received reports that pre-orders for this limited-edition hardware went so well that many retailers closed them before the launch date and the hardware almost sold out on the launch date.

I guess a lot of us here in America are either broke or turned off by the fact it doesn’t come with a charger. I didn’t buy one for myself since I will wait for a bundle with a charger. I did get one for my girlfriend since she really wanted the Zelda one.
And also doesn’t launch with the new standard model with the faceplates as well. Because of those two BS factors that screwed Americans over, nobody is buying that OP chargerless crap that has a stiff grey zit that’s not as responsive as an actual analog pad that everybody asked for.
Look at the Graph above, and enjoy how you bought one, but your heart didn’t. Your girlfriend is enjoying a great piece of hardware, with a vast array of software.

Since getting burned out on Animal Crossing, and getting extremely bored super FAST with Smash Bros., all I ever play is Street Pass games on my 3DS now. It’s hard to believe so many people still find so much to do on the 3DS. But I’ve never been as much of a handheld gamer as I am a major console gamer.

Meh, I notice the resolution on the 3DS regardless of which model. So I’d rather have the bigger screen. Especially since I also own a PS Vita, that doesn’t help either.
Looks a little sharper on smaller screens, but I can’t get past the resolution overall on the 3DS no matter what model I use.
Here’s to hoping the next model at least has a 720p screen. 1080p would be nice also.
Screen is the same. I have both the old model XL and the new, haven’t sold my old one yet.
The increased power is honestly barely noticeable to me. It’s a little faster but nothing to write home about.

It would’ve been more if they would’ve shipped more of those special editions. Or if they included the charger. Or since they didn’t include the chargers they could’ve lowered the price. I’m surprised that more people haven’t complained. The reason games cost so much is because you have to think of all the cost that goes into making it. You have to pay all the dev team and that can include 100s of people especially for 1st party games. Then you have to include the price to make a physical copy of the game. After that the cost of shipping millions of copies around the world is expensive as well. And then if it’s a third party game Nintendo is gonna take a small cut just to allow them to publish it just like any other company. In the end Nintendo or a third party company only makes $2-10 per game maybe even less sold.

And the 3ds would have been more expensive if it included a charger. And the U.S. was the only country that even got packed in chargers to begin with. The rest of the world have been buying chargerless 3ds’s for a long time now. And why should platformers cost less money? And what platformers are you even referring to? Most 3ds games are not platformers. In fact i’m having a hard time thinking of any platformers for the 3ds besides a couple Mario games. lol. What are all these platformers you are talking about? Do you even own a 3ds or are you just assuming the 3ds has nothing but platformers?
And for you to suggest that platformers should be cheaper than other games is just silly in the first place. In many cases platformers cost more money than fps’s do.
