Itagaki Says To Use The Wii U Pro Controller With Devil’s Third

Wondering which controller works the best with the upcoming Devil’s Third for Wii U? Well, Devil’s Third producer Tomonobu Itagaki has made that decision a little easier for you to make. Itagaki says that he recommends gamers use the Wii U Pro Controller when playing the action title, rather than use the traditional Wii U GamePad. He doesn’t state a reason for this, but as this is his game I trust his judgement. Here’s what Tomonobu Itagaki had to say about Devil’s third.

Thank you everyone here from bottom of my heart.
My staff at Valhalla are working/playing/enjoying hard all day everyday.
Your kind words encourage us! Thanks again

I have to say that finished Devil’s Third is almost completely different than the footage you picked up (2011 trailer). First of all, you have to aware Ivan (protagonist of DT) is perfect bald man
He is cool.

You guys should use Pro-controller for Devil’s Third.

no one says specific release date yet. thanks for your patience.

You guys should use Pro-Controller, plus…secret. Sorry

Thanks, NDub Nation

            1. The Pro controller is my favorite controller of all time, if it had a mic input and analog triggers. I’d sleep with that thing, but it doesn’t, BECAUSE FUCK YOU!

                1. Analog triggers are pressure sencitive so they know how far you have them pressed in,the Gamecube triggers are that way along with the n64 face buttons and PS2 and PS3 controllers,Sony ditched it on PS4 due it to cost I beleave? The best app for them imo would be racing games as it feels more like a real gas pedle in a car.

            2. Maps, weapons switching, items, communication with partners, etc.

The dual analog computer gamer crap has gotten stale long ago.

                1. I don’t have any issues with it, other than the battery. Everything feels in the right place and doesn’t give me hand craps like a few other controllers I have used. Love the remote feature, use that all of the time.

          1. The gamepad was initially created to compete against the booming tablet games. Nintendo was hoping people would see the advantage in being able to play all their tablet games and console games on one device. Along with off t.v. play, that was the reason for the Wii U Gamepad.

Now that thats a lost cause, there really is no reason to force implementation of the gamepad onto games that don’t need them. There is no reason to force gamepad mechanics onto Devils Third.

            1. Absolutely well said. It’s a failed gimmick. Don’t get me wrong. I like it. But it’s the reason Nintendo will not lower the price of the console. From what I can see The only game that used it to full was zombie and no one blinked an eye at that game

            1. I didnt say its bad, I say its small.I dont like small games except if they are exceptional and very good.Thats why I like rpg more because they are long games. Also games like smash and mario kart are also good because of the replay value.

I dont want to go spend 50 euros om a game I can complete in a day.

        1. The problem with Kirby is that it’s a great game that is on the wrong system. It would have been much better suited on the 3DS because you have to keep your eyes focused on the gamepad and not your TV screen.

That’s why some people brought that up as a negative point for the game. I’m still playing it and enjoying it though.

            1. Actually it would. You never get to see the game on the T.V. because your always focused on the gamepad. Honestly the gamepad does not look that much better than the 3ds. In fact I like the 3d effect so in all honesty it would look better on the 3ds.

      1. I’m pretty sure he is getting at a MH3 type setup. Pad propped for information and fast inventory and pro controller to do the work. We’ll have to wait for more info.

        1. Yoshifuru Okamoto said:

“Actually we do have some GamePad usage in multiplayer. As you know, the setting of this game is this fallen state – a chaotic war that has broken out between different factions across North America. Among those different factions, one of the things that is going to lead to victory is the ability to share information, so we use the GamePad as a communication tool. So you will be doing, among other things, calling in air-strikes and sharing information with squad members. It’s something you can imaging the commander on the battlefield holding to give orders.”

    1. You can’t say that it “won” this generation until all the consoles have gone through their life cycles. I don’t even think consoles should ever “win” a generation. But maybe a generation can win gaming in general… (Imo whatever gen the PS1 and N64 were a part of are my favorite generation)

        1. Nintendo already said they plan to continue the Wii U cycle even after the next “generation” it ending it’s life cycle will imply Nintendo just doesn’t know what to do with the system yet they still release fantastic games and still would. Nintendo doesn’t quit that’s why there systems do really well eventually, if Sony would release and publish more good games pn the Vita then it would have always outsold 3DS but it just wasn’t good enough

  1. I wonder why he suggested a the Wii u pro. Whatever I just hope this game turns out fucking good and sell well

    1. Probably because it’s the Wii U’s traditional controller option, so you feel more emersed in the game that way, rather than multitasking unsing the Gamepad. As much as I love the Wii U Gamepad, especially for watching Youtube and Off-T.V play, the Pro Controller is the more confortable option, in my opinion…

    1. It’s like choosing whether to play Smash Bros with the Gamepad or the Pro controller. The Pro controller is more comfortable and is more suited for fast paced controller action.

    2. I believe they want to you to get into long playing sessions and the gamepad can get your arms tired a lot quicker than the pro controller

        1. What controllers do you use? The gamepad is the controller I play with. I find dodging easier with the gamepad.

            1. The gamepad is good for smash. I don’t understand why want to use a gamecube controller. The GameCube controller looks so fucking uncomfortable. The only to things about gamepad is the battery life and the grab button. Had to change the grab button to the Y button. Its so much easier to grab bitches with the Y button

              1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Well I’m perfectly adjusted with the Gamecube controller but since I don’t have any functional ones since I’ve played them out completely, I use the Gamepad…

              2. I’m not a fan of the GameCube controller. I go back and forth with the Gamepad and the Pro controller when playing Smash. But I seem to be able to pull combos and little better on the Pro controller. Just me, I suppose.

                1. Sounds interesting. I have a knock off a pro controller. It’s small and designed after a Xbox remote. It’s good for Mario kart but not smash.

          1. Is it wrong that I usually don’t dodge? I mainly use Bowser Jr. (Err, Iggy) and I don’t have a problem on For Glory 1v1 and I usually never dodge or grab. (It feels weird sometimes)

            1. Um idk. It’s all up to you. Dodging and grabbing make the match more challenging. Some characters can be KO’d when grabbed. Like ness, his grab can KO at 100℅. Sometimes lower if you are closer to the edge.

      1. Playing Smash with just a Wii remote without even a nunchuck is extremely uncomfortable! :O I’ve had bruises all over my hand because of it.

        1. I will crap over both of you with my pac man, still i had some time to play and got a little rusty but still i can beat you both.

  2. Completely unrelated, but I was surfing for Zelda stuff on Amazon, and an option to pre-order Zelda Wii U came up. Is this new? It gives a release date of December 31st, though that is probably just a placeholder.

  3. NO WII REMOTE SUPPORT NO PURCHASE

I DONT PLAY SHOOTERS WITHOUT A MM PRECISE MOUSE POINTER ITS 2015 NOT PRE 2006

I LIKE FLUID NATURAL CAM THAT WII REMOTE OFFERS SCREEN SCROLLING IS UTTERLY HORRIBLE

MOVING LIKE ROBO COP FUCK THAT OUT DATED SHIT

  4. NO MOUSE POINTER SUPPORT IN A NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE = THE MOST STUPID THING IV EVER SEEN

STICK AIMING IS CASUAL-ROBOTIC-SCROLLING SCREEN INSTEAD OF NATURAL FLUID MOVEMENT-REQUIRES SOFTWARE BOT AIM BOX

IM SKILLED I MM SHOOT VIA A MOUSE POINTER FUCK YOUR CASUAL CRAP GAME

STICK AIMING SORRY HAVNT DONE THAT SINCE THE GAMECUBE

  5. Lets hope Nintendo:

    1. Drops the Wii U Gamepad and sells it seperatly (Maybe with a game or two like the Wii Motion Plus Remote).

    2. Increase the power of the Wii U (Sony and Microsoft are rumored to be doing that for their slimmer models so why can’t Nintendo? I think it’d be good to see the system on par with the others or even just on the same level as Xbox One even)

    3. Get heads out of asses (Get those third parties back Nintendo, I don’t care if Reggie has to strip for Rockstar Games or Iwata does some 50 Shades of Grey shit with EA, just get the third parties back)

    4. Discontinue the stupid Youtube Partnership Program ( It really is dumb at the end of the day)

    5. Show people how the console is new (People are still confused about the system, make it known that it’s a NEW NEXT GENERATION CONSOLES)

    6. F-Zero U (…. That’s just in there because I want it.. do judge me)

    7. More new IPs please ( Nintendo, Splatoon and Codename STEAM is heading in the right direction but please, keep it up because the more new ips you have, the more interest your console gets from other people like the Xbox or PlayStation Fans, make a game like Uncharted or even something to rival the Order 1886 (That won’t be too hard))

These are just my HOPES for Nintendo but I doubt they’ll do any of it.

    1. 1.The Gamepad would cost considerably more than the Motion Plus Wiimote, so that would hamper sales of the bundled game.
      2.Sounds like a reasonable idea.
3.3rd parties would certainly help, if only for so they get on board for Nintendo’s next console that they will release in about 3 years.
4.Agreed. Youtube videos are like free advertisments.
      5.So basically advertising.
      6.All of my yes.
      7.Maybe at E3.
      Overall, a fairly resonable list…

    2. Only issue with that is if they get rid of the Gamepad, they are going to have to increase the power because that controller is the only niche the system has. Plus they would have to redesign older wii u tittles that worked around the Gamepad like Nintendo Land, Undercover and Pikmin 3.

      1. But 3rd parties rarely make exclusives nowadays, just hardware & über profit excuses.

& they very rarely make actual games anymore. Compare Assassin’s Creed to Prince of Persia; original Tomb Raider & Anniversary to just about every other Tomb Raider; . Tech demos, Walking SIMs, Murder SIMs, interactive movies… It’s now a glut of photorealism, FPSes, & Sandboxes. Nintendo needs to remain outside the twin sphere & either commission certain 3rd party exclusives, buy 3rd party IPs, or just make a whole buncha indies 2nd party & invest a bunch of venture capital in them.

Say “NO!” to triplets. UP with artistry & gameplay, DOWN with graphics whoring & QTE.

  6. For most ps4/xbone games you have to install a tonne of data eg 40gb so putting it on wii u is probably not possible (without it taking forever to load) as it doesn’t have enough data without an external hard drive

  7. 1. No it’s what makes the Wii U
    2. No. Nintendo doing that now would make them seem like they don’t know what they’re doing. And a console with more GBs won’t draw anyone in.
    3. Yes. But at the end of the day third parties won’t make money on the Wii U, so why would they want to waste their time?
    4. Yes. If people can resale amiibos they should be able to make money off of ads.
    5. Yes
    6. Yes Revival of old IPs is vital. Ice Climbers anyone?
    7. Very much yes. Make IPs that focus on “hardcore” gamers. You can have Mario, Kirby, Miis and Yoshi cater to the casuals, and then introduce new IPs or have IPs like Kid Icarus, Metroid, StarFox, etc. cater to people who want a little more challenge in their games. The problem with Nintendo is that they think EVERY game they make should be playable and “accessible” to ages 5-80.

      1. Because people are use to Nintendo upgrading their handhelds over the years. Nintendo however, has never upgraded their consoles.

          1. They’d need to make the upgraded Wii U with x86 & @ least as powerful as X1. But all Wii U games before that would be incompatible, unless they also included Wii U’s custom PowerPC architecture.

Then there’s they type of games 3rd parties now make. Sure, some compensated on Wii with new games or takes on old concepts, but they had a safety net of robust hardware sales. Yet the mainstream twins (or 3rd-pary puppets) have set the precedent with their own singular vision: multiplats, hardcore photorealism, casual and/or brief gameplay, microtransactions (chasing graphics is an expensive addiction), FPSes, Sandbox, & M-rated Hollywood affairs. The majority don’t want actual games, otherwise Wii U & its exclusives would have robust sales. & Nintendo isn’t going to abandon gaming like Sony did just so “gamers” can “choose” a different brand of Microsoft. If Sony cared about gaming, maybe the industry wouldn’t have to rely so heavily on Ninty to save it again.

            1. Oh yeah, if the upgrade included both architectures, that’d be an expensive machine, especially since Ninty cannot afford to sell @ a loss like MS (Sony’s hurting, though).

If the upgrade was just x86, gamers who bought the original would be left out or forced to upgrade, unless Ninty & the few 3rd parties that actually make the appropriate games released on both Wii U variants. Plus, PowerPC Wii U exclusives would need to be ported over to x83 Wii U; which is costly, too.

3rd parties on the current twins have to resort to microtransactions & cutting out actual gameplay just to appeal to graphics whores & angsty teens or the kids who are wannabe adults. The demographic of posers is hurting Wii U, bit I’d rather Ninty fought all that BS & focused on their own portion of the market instead of cowtowing like Sony (traitor!).

              1. The bigger the raw specs are & the more inefficient the machines, the higher the production costs (hardware & software), & the higher the rate of microtransactions, & graphics/cutscenes are to content & gimped game.

  8. I wonder what he meant by that “Secret” comment at the end…

Oh well. I’ll still be playing this with the game pad regardless. I’m just used to it by now. It’s comfortable.

  9. Was this worth mentioning honestly? I guess people can speculate over the “secret”. Other than that, the developer recommends the Pro Controller but I like the second screen use of the GamePad. Makes multi-tasking easy to handle without the need to break the pace.

  10. Ok I’m fucking confused. What’s Wii U’s missioN again? Last week he said Wii U tittles are going to be more about the gamepad. Now he is trying to promote the Pro controller? I thought the Niche of Wii U over competition was the Gamepad? That’s the only niche Wii U has over the PS4 since these Idiots didn’t give it the horsepower it needs to compete in the market that forever changes. Iwata doesn’t know what to do with the Wii U. What I would do is revise all Wii U’s tittles that were the best selling and moved the most units and add online to them such as 3D world, NintendoLand, NSMBU, Pikmin 3. This way the gap between Wii U and Xbox One sales can be closer than more separated. Also delay Spaltoons for voice chat feature. Not that I care for Voice chat but if the consumers want it, delay the game and add want they want to boost up some Wii U sales. It’s 2015, I’m sure adding voice chat to a game not out yet is easier than a patch. Also if you see the GC adapter selling really well. Then work in R&D to make it play more than one game. that could help Wii U sales right there. Damn is it that hard to have common sense? WII u could be at 15 million units by now if Iwata had common sense.

    1. Online is unnecessary, Nintendo games are always meant to be enjoyed with families not some random person you don’t know who would just get into your way. Why do we even need an online Mario platformer? And why is voice chat so important for Spatoon?

      1. Didn’t I say I wasn’t really into voice chat but a lot of people seem to want it. And how you know aN Online Mario platformer would be a fail if it hasn’t been done yet? 3D Mario world with lack of online didn’t keep Wii U sales above Xbox One did it?

  11. I don’t understand why people say the GamePad is uncomfortable. It isn’t even heavy for me and my much younger sisters and cousins, and if it’s because it’s distracting to have to look at the tv or Gamepad then don’t use the TV at all. I don’t

  12. Meh not a big FPS guy, may get this eventually. But there’s way too many 3ds and wii u titles that I need to get. Plus Amiibos lol

  13. If this does not have gamepad use then it’s a no purchase from me. The gamepad is a must if you are hardcore and play for a very long time!!! The small apparently pro controller is far too light, waaaay too small and you end with severe cramps.

It is time for people to learn to move on to bigger and better things. Stop knocking the innovation of the gamepad, just because you cannot change your playing habbit. Anyway a good workman never blames the tools!

On the subject of gamepad usage here is what must be in WII U exclusive shooter:

    Thermal image map

Ability to manoeuvre rocket propelled grenade via gyro, and followed on the second screen. I wanna see you die!!!

Spy drones or similar allowing you to check cctv cams etc.

How about a metal detector for looking for those hidden mines?

Erm in game voice chat, when ninty eventually grows up

Door keypads and entry systems – I want to tap!!

Mini games to heal allies or steal amo!
