With Nintendo teaming up with DeNA for mobile based titles everyone is now wondering if Shigeru Miyamoto will work his magic on smartphone and tablet titles. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata wouldn’t really divulge much, but simply said that Miyamoto’s main role and priority is on the development of Wii U titles that will be released this year.
Will Nintendo or DeNA be developing these games? And is Mr. Miyamoto [creator of Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and other iconic Nintendo franchises] working on anything smart device-related?
Development of smart device games will be mainly done by Nintendo, but it is significant that we are forming a joint development structure with DeNA. Nintendo, through experience in the dedicated game system business, is good at making traditional game products. But for smart devices, in addition to the “product” aspect of a game, the aspect of an ever-evolving “service” is very important—a service that encourages consumers to play every day even for a short time. DeNA has extensive know-how in developing the “service” side of things, and will be primarily responsible for the service-oriented operations. We will be able to greatly leverage strengths of each party.
As for any involvement of Mr. Miyamoto, we will discuss it when possible, but for now, understand that his priority is on the development of Wii U titles that will be launched this year.

Pikmin 3? Starfox Wii U is coming this year as in Project Guard and Project Giant Robot. He also is helping with Zelda Wii U, AND he trained the young blood devs and made the new Dev team called Team Garage who is making Splatoon and he is assisting them. So nice try.

Wow project guard and project robot look so exciting…,also it’s better to not help at zelda wii u because he will held back the game with outdated ideas.
Spaltoon is exciting but he is not helping them at all,he let them do it on there own that’s why the game is shaping to be one of the best new ip ever.(hint:because Miyamoto isn;t helping them)

One of the bad things of buying tablet games is that you never know if they will still work with the next system update. Is that what Nintendo uses DeNA for, to make sure their games keep being supported and working through future system updates?
Miyamoto just wants to make games for Nintendo CONSOLES. He has no interest in smartphones, hell when he first started out he hated working with PC’s…lol Miyamoto is the god of gaming he is the 1 man who wont make shitty Smartphone games. I’m so glad he actually has a brain and doesn’t get sucked into this whole “Smartphones are the future” Pff no they aren’t the fact is there is no predictable future, it will always be something new. Also did people forget awhile ago Miyamoto called the casuals who play these easy games with no challenge “pathetic” lol.

Good. Miyamoto will hopefully NEVER be involved with the smartphone gaming stuff. He’s old & he’s made a few mistakes with some games, (*cough*PaperMarioStickerStar*cough*) but he’s still one of the best damn game developers there are! So the little whiners that think Miyamoto is out of touch should really quit crying & stop acting like a few mistakes is the end of Miyamoto’s career.
