Here’s Another Incredibly Cheesy Splatoon TV Commercial

A few Splatoon TV commercials have been popping up now, and this is the most recent called ‘Squid Kid’. Very similar to the other US commercial, with the same kind of cheesy music, repetitive lyrics and very much aimed at kids. And then there’s the Japanese commercial, which is a clear winner to me, opting for a calmer approach. Which is your favourite Splatoon commercial so far?

  1. Don’t just target kids Nintendo. Get adults excited. Most kids play on the Playstation and Xbox because they want to play “adult games”.

  2. They’re both good. WTF is up with people these days needing to bitch about “This isn’t as cool”. Screw you, the Squid Kid song is fun and catchy and the NA’s commercial shows game play versus “Here’s kinda what you wish you could do.” Again, both are good, just for different reasons.

Grow up and have some fun damnit.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>Primitive primeapes who care about about their insignificant pride than to have real fun>>>

    2. But like, when I first listened to the commercial it seemed incredibly cringey. It has nothing to do with being ‘cool’ it’s just that the song is really repetitive and not very creative. The Japanese one actually was pretty creative. This one was some simple gameplay with a lame song sung in the backround by a 7 year old with bronchitis.

      1. The point of the commercial is to be fun. It succeeds at making the game look fun. Your not liking the music does not negate that fact. Your liking the Japanese on does not negate that fact. But please, regale us all with your far more entertaining and creative song r Splatoon commercial that puts the American one to shame.

You can not like one or the other all you want, but to say one is “better” than the other is pretentious and snotty as hell.

  3. Yo these ads are meant to be cheesy. They’re charming as fuck and refreshing. Makes me want to play the game.

  4. I thought it was targeted to both kids and adults… yeah these commercials are bouncy and cheery, but they also sound exactly like a commercial from the 90’s, which I think they’re doing on purpose considering the game’s Nickelodeon tier aesthetics.

  5. Hey, did you guys know that Splatoon is coming out soon? Its hard to tell there’s not much coverage of it.

  6. It sounds like they are letting Reggie write the lyrics and then having someone’s annoying niece, who just happens to be in a grade school psuedo-punk band, sing those lyrics. I hope they find a new ad agency because this one is balls!

  7. The cheesy song captures the goofiness of the game and characters. I think it just shows they know what they style is and the correct way to really make it stand out.

Personally, I find the Japanese commercial to be dull compared to the US version. You can call it “kiddy” all you want, but it captures my attention a lot more than that cityscape borefest.

    1. And for a game that’s about shooting ink everywhere, and complete inanity, a “calmer approach” like the Japan version doesn’t really succeed in showing what Splatoon is.

    1. Nintendo Lieutenant Cereza

Turok 2 was the best looking fps. Turok rage wars had the smoothest 4-player split screen. And all while still being 640×480 at 30fps. It was great.

  8. Am I the only one who thinks all the commercials are fine, but should have a version of them for each market. This one is made to target kids, yeah, but I feel it does a good job of it.

  9. Lol this is why ps4_ fanboys make fun of Nintendo fans. Only adding to the stereotype that Nintendo is kiddie. Kids next door with supersoakers . Even if Xbox or Sony fans we’re interested the no voice chat draws them away. Nintendo needs to get with the times.

  10. Why does everything seem to be May 29th? Even wave 4 amiibos (and I think even the silver Mario amiibo). All on (or around) May 29th.
