It appears as though we are getting a brand new entry in the incredibly popular Mario & Sonic series. The news was announced today during the Japanese Nintendo Direct. The latest game is titled Mario & Sonic At Rio 2016 Olympic Games and features a number of new characters including Birdo, Rouge, Diddy Kong, Zazz, Nabbit and Jet the Hawk. There’s also new sports added to the mix including Golf and Rugby. The game will be coming to both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
I am skeptical about the gameplay quality, but i knew rio would be coming! They should consider a tie in with rio 3 if its made….
I’m already sold. Release date please?

I have all 3 Mario & Sonic Olympic games on the Wii, but have never played them. Are they really any fun? I’ve always wanted to play them, but I never have anybody to play them with. I’d be a lot more interested if these games featured characters other than just Sonic characters. Sonic bores me.
I haven’t bought a Mario & Sonic game since the first one, so maybe this one will be so different from that one that it won’t feel like a repetitive series that gets sequels at least every other year.
Jet the Hawk, really? Who was asking for Jet the Hawk.
But seriously, I got the first olympic games one and winter games one and they’ll do me just fine. They’re decent, but it’s clear that the newer ones are just the same things with more terrible sports added. Golf and Rugby for example will be terrible – these are sports that need a whole game built around them, not the awful version that these games will provide. The track and field is what works best here.
It’s such a shame Sega do the development – Nintendo would do a much better job. They feel so shoddy in a lot of ways compared to Nintendo games.
Nintendo did the Sochi game, and it was pretty terrible.

You remember that it was made during the early WiiU days when barely anything was selling, not to mention that Sochi is the only M&S game to not have DS/3DS release.

If Nintendo was the one who made these games, they would probably be fantastic must-haves, but it’s SEGA who makes them.

Can somebody tell me why the fuck Zazz of the Deadly Six was so special to be his own character? Hell, even Big the Cat or Cream makes much more sense than him.
He is probably just a rival character like King Boo in the past games.
Really Nintendo!? You’re going to put in Diddy Kong, Birdo, and Nabbit here and not in Mario Kart 8!? Seriously guys, you have no idea how to handle character placement.
Birdo actually isn’t a new character in this game. They basically act like the Egg Paws/Boom Booms as extra team members.
