Nintendo 3DS Smash Controller Compatibility App Arrives On eShop

Fans of the latest Super Smash Bros. may remember that you are able to use your Nintendo 3DS as a controller for the Wii U version as long as you own a copy of the game for 3DS.

However, along with the major Smash news today, Nintendo has stealthily released a $.99 app (titled “Smash Controller”) on the eShop that allows players without a Smash cartridge to use the 3DS in the Wii U version.

The app is available now, so make sure to pick it up if you don’t have enough controllers to fill your eight-player roster!

    1. To help pay for your upcoming PS4 tittles I assume? If it wasn’t for Nintendo, you wouldn’t be getting 3rd party games. Let’s all give applause for Smash Bros. saving the gaming industry.

    1. It’s not terrible especially if it’s the new model even though that tiny ass nub of a dual stick is laughable. lol

But what’s worse, they’re charging for a simple feature that should be standard in the system without having to drop a dime.

  1. 90% of the smash population goes on online to play smash. This kinda rules out the 3ds as a fucking controller. This is for those who don’t play online, which makes this app fucking irrelevant.

  2. this is actually going to come in handy, as I have many friends with 3DSes and no Smash Bros. and I occasionally run out of controllers for everyone (haven’t gotten the GC adapter yet). This is better than spending 40 bucks on the game or a new controller!
