Nintendo Initially Considered Monolith Soft To Develop Star Fox Zero

One of the surprising announcements to come out of the Nintendo Digital Event was that Star Fox Zero is being developed by the acclaimed Platinum Games. However, Shigeru Miyamoto says that they initially thought about developing the game internally. They considered various studios including Xenoblade Chronicles X studio Monolith Soft, but he says that they decided that Platinum Games would be the best developer for the job, and I’m sure most fans would probably agree.

“We didn’t really look around at that many different places,” Miyamoto explained. “Our first instinct was to try and find an appropriate team within Nintendo. One place we kind of considered was Monolith Soft.”

“But it kind of came down to to there wasn’t really a place we wanted to work with other than Platinum just because they are so committed to creating exciting visuals. We kind of really wanted to improve the visual quality of the game.”

  1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>Not that I care much about it but it almost certainly means that the overall character designs and graphics will improve before release>>>

      1. It’s always gameplay over graphics, but yea, I hope it gets a bit of a graphics update before launch. Although, it looks good already!

        1. At first from the trailer, I was a bit disappointed but after seeing it on the TreeHouse Live, it really does look pretty good. Some of the enemies are still inadequate but the game looks smooth and the gameplay looks well polished already. The part near the colony and the dogfight with Pigma was particularly interesting. Still it could be polished some more. In this day and age, they could stand to give it some more detail.

        >>>I think the environment looks good enough but the models could be upgraded a bit more, it kind of looks out of place sometimes when watching the gameplay>>>

        1. It’s because their looks is inspired by thunderbirds, that’s why they look like puppets. Look for the thunderbirds are go! trailer and some clips of the classic series.

              1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

                >>>I see, still most will never understand the point, but they’ll probably end up liking it just like with Wind Waker>>>

                1. Star fox as a series was inspired by thunderbirds, that’s why when they talk they move thir mouths like puppets, master Miyamoto is fan of puppet drama series, remember that he designed the puppets that were used in the SNES release, personally i find interesting and graphics don’t matter and remember this, everyone talked shit about star wars: the clone wars because how it looks and as a matter of fact it was inspired by the original thunderbirds too and we can agree that SW: TCW is one of the best star wars related tv series ever.

        2. Yeah, I thought the same thing… with what I see in other WIi U games, it just needs some polishing and I hope it is done… sure gameplay first, but in these times we should have a beatiful game as well

      3. Look at all or the majority of win u games people may say they are ugly or need to be improved at first but it all depends on what type of style and the engine used but later on before release the game looks improved and you can tell star fox is like the n64 star fox but with improved graphics etc etc

        1. yeah, hopefully. If that game hits it, and they would have revealed some of the other stuff at E3 only instead of leaking it before (like Fatal Frame for the west lets say) that would have been better

    1. Have you seen the game, ITS AMAZING!! If you haven’t already you should go watch the Tree house play it:) FYI the first part is them playing the demo version also on the show floor, the second part is the developers playing levels never before seen.

  2. I’m glad MonoSoft didn’t work on it, Xeno X already isn’t coming till December 4th, and that’s what they need to be focusing on.

    1. Xenoblade X is already finished and out in Japan though. Its just the translation being worked on now.

      1. I know that, but this game is a 300hr+ RPG where every character has text and or voice acting, so they need to have all their resources put to work translating it.

    2. It already came out in Japan, so leave the localizing to the USA dudes, they could start developing another game now.

  3. Could have worked, but I like they gave it to Platinum in the end.
However, is Kamiya involved in the project? Because as far as I know, he has his hands full with Scalebound. It would be very disappointing for him to miss this opportunity.

    1. Kamiya? The guy who really,*really* wanted to work on StarFox?No,some other guy from Platinum is in charge of development(I’m terrible with jap names)

      1. Yeah, that guy. Since I wrote that coment, we’ve come to know that Hashimoto is working on it, yeah. Seems like a wasted opportunity for the guy.

  4. If they can put some, “oh so shiny,” gloss on the visuals we have now – I will be happy with the graphics. It’s all about game play to me, and Platinum rocks the house!

    1. It looks like SF64 but with a new story, levels, and game mechanics. In other words TOTALLY STINKING AWESOME!!!

  5. And it appears the worthless Star Fox characters had been retconned (Amanda, Krystal, Panther, etc) while we are sticking with the original cast. Thank fucking God!

  6. Nothing against Platinum, but this may be interpreted to say that Monolith Soft can’t make good graphics, which I’d have to say is not true at all. They’re both great companies, but maybe this could have been worded better.
