  1. GODDAMN THAT SPLATOON HAS GOT SOME LEGS IN JAPAN!!! It’s always in the top 10 in sales every single week over there. All Nintendo has to do now is drop the price on the Wii U and it could rule Japan, especially with games like Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Yo-kai Watch: Just Dance Edition and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash just to name a few

    1. >>>They should really lower the prices on many games already released as well, I mean why are they not doing it?>>>

      >>>The sales would have been better for every game if they did this, High Command sure has some strange logic sometimes, my processor can’t compute all their logic>>>

      1. as iwata used to say, because of the value of the yen, they can’t reduce the price of the games or even the consoles. So in order to get profits, the games will stay that price. In facts games like one piece unlimited world will never see a price drop.

        1. >>>Sometimes in chess, you have to sacrifice something to gain something bigger>>>

    2. They are not moving hardware. The install base is barely growing.

So this is good for people who play splatoon, more competition…and that’s pretty much it.

  2. I think they should lower the price of the Wii U about 50$ but take out one of the 2 games that one in most newer bundles. That way people are like “wow lower price tag” and don’t realize it’s actually more expensive if you want to have 2 60$ games. Cause a lot of people don’t take into account the fact that the bundles come with 2 60$ games, but they will notice the 50$ price drop, even though they take away a 60$ game.

    1. More people are attracted to the PS4 bundles that only cost 50$ more. It’s more worthwhile to buy a stronger, longer lasting console with ongoing support, bundled with a new, visually amazing, AAA game, than a dying console with a couple games that have been out for a while, regardless of how fun they may be. I really don’t think the pricing of the games included is going to mean jack to people, nor do I think even the pricing of the Wii U itself matters anymore with stores dropping their own prices to get rid of stock with continuously unsuccessful response.

      1. The pricing always affect the sales, if Nintendo drops the price of the Wii U by 50$ (especiallyduring the holidays) they will have a boost in sales, just look at last week’s sales, that amount of sales on the PS4 are because of the price drop and last time the Wii U made a price drop it had a boost of sales as well, the Wii U may look like a weak console, but in Japan is where its at its strongest and dropping the price at the right time with a good amount of games for sale will gicve them a huge boost in sales.

  3. Am I the only one that sees Nintendo lost it’s hardware grip in Japan? And as we know, XBoxOne and PS4 are hellava strong outside Japan, especially the States.

These numbers are very telling of Nintendo’s weakening grip on gaming. :/

    1. 2 weeks ago Nintendo basically dominated sales in Japan, last week Sony hold a grip through the price drop and a ton of new releases (which is the only way the stay relevant in Japan) and this week is because of Uncharted.

All Nintendo needs is a price drop one or 2 new games, maybe DLC for Mario Maker and they will dominate Japan for the rest of the year.

      1. You mean the mario maker spike? Yeah. That was short lived, just like I said it would be. :/

I don’t remember seeing numbers like these in a long time.

  4. The 3DS couldn’t even compete this week? Wth? If Nintendo execs aren’t figuring it out yet, the ship will be underwater before they know it was sinking…or maybe this is part of the plan if new hardware is launching soon?

If this trends for a few weeks, I’ll legit be worried about Nintendo…

My dad and bro bought a new console…I won’t say which, but I want to game with them online, so I’m getting one in November…then I’ll visit this site to support MNN, but Nintendo is getting 2-3 more games outta me, then my $$$ is going elsewhere.

Good luck with Mobile Nintendo. That better pocket you a shit ton of money for what your new mindset cost you.

    1. I take it that its a PS4, right? Anyways, I’m on the same boat, but I’m not abandoning Nintendo, I’m just not prioritizing them anymore.

      1. I’m not selling my Nintendo hardware. I collect it, and I have a few indie games I want to play, but this could be my last Gen with them, especially if everyone I know has moved on.

No more assuming. No more day 1 hardware purchases. Nintendo has to show me they want me as a consumer, but I’m thinking they don’t. Maybe mobile will be huge and they will succeed there, but I’m not sure that’s going definitely going to work for them… I’m not giving up on them, but I’m getting my parachute ready.

    2. If it’s a PS4 as DemiGOD thinks, great move. As it stands right now, it’s better than sticking solely with the Titanic U…err… I mean Wii U!

    3. Oh & I hate saying this but an Xbone might even be a better option than solely Wii U! *shudder*

      1. I WANT a PS4… But my bro, dad and I spent hours playing Rare Replay…. You can’t get that on the PS4 sadly…

        1. *looks around to see if there are any Nintendo Damage Control or Nintendo Apologists anywhere* We can blame NintenD’OH! for being stupid & selling their shares to Microsoft instead of buying all of Rare for the awesome IPs.

          1. >>>No need to be upset because you died several times…>>>

            >>>Dreaded hunter>>>

  5. Well im glad a home console is finally beating a handheld console on a weekly basis. I love mobile gaming but I hate seeing the 3DS outselling everything over there, it had me worried for a while.

  6. Well, time to kiss Chibi Robo’s shiny metal ass good bye. Because with sales like this, they might get as well pull the plug on this undead franchise. Such a shame too since the first game was great while it’s been run to the ground in the same way it happened with Sonic.
