Fan Developing The Legend Of Zelda Maker

There’s no doubt that Mario Maker is a big hit. The game has boosted Wii U sales, and has had more than one million fan-made courses uploaded since its launch. Therefore, it comes to no surprise that a fan is taking advantage of the game’s success by giving another Nintendo IP a similar treatment. The Legend of Zelda Maker is exactly what it sounds like, and the alpha is currently available for PC.

Given Nintendo’s aggressive approach to protecting their intellectual properties, there’s little chance this project will reach completion in its current state. The project’s creator, Dream Mix, is well aware of this and has provided a disclaimer in the description of a video they released for the game:

“Zelda Maker (Temp) is a non-official project started by myself, which will allow players to create and share Legend of Zelda worlds of their own. Nintendo will cease and desist a project like this, so in time, when I’ve got the ability to change the sprites, I will do so, and I will also add things that Zelda games don’t have to make it a somewhat unique experience. Regardless, I won’t be acting like this isn’t going to be a Zelda (Maker?) clone, through and through. I’d just like to add some things that I think official Zelda games could use. This is a very early build of the game, and it does not represent what the final game will look like.”

If you’re interested in playing the alpha, you can find it on Dropbox here, and Mediafire, here. Otherwise, you can see a video for the project below.

  1. But we already have Zelda Classic. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to where this ends up. Unlimited Zelda dungeons from fans? Count me in.

Super Mario Maker? What’s that!? I’m gonna get me Legend of Zelda Maker when it releases! Hell fucking yes! (Disclaimer: I’m only partly serious. Please don’t’ sue me, Pokemon Comp-err… Nintendo!)

  3. Agressiveness towards protecting their IPs? LOL. Because that’s why Link had a game by Koei Tecmo as well as so many games that the Zelda series cross over.

How about simply, Zelda Maker would suck, since you wouldn’t ever find that same fun in experimentation?
