WSJ: Nintendo’s Second Mobile Game To Feature One Of Their Best Known Characters

The Wall Street Journal is today reporting that Nintendo’s next mobile title after the unreleased Miitomo will feature one of their best known characters. There’s no hinting as to who it could be, so I guess we shall have to wait to find out. Nintendo’s first mobile title Miitomo is due to be released this March on iOS and Android.

Videogame giant Nintendo Co. on Tuesday posted a sharp drop in quarterly net profit, but it stoked the hopes of fans by promising that its second smartphone game would feature one of the company’s best-known characters.

    1. I care and I’ve owned/own, multiple Nintendo consoles and handhelds. (SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, gameboy, ds, 3ds, 2ds, ect.) I’d like for Nintendo to make a couple of cool mobile games for me to play on the go. Not only would I enjoy them, but they would make Nintendo more money so that they can continue making what I want most, dedicated hardware and software. It’s a win, win, why complain?

    2. There’s a whole generation of kids they’re missing out on. If they don’t make a splash in the smart phone market, they’re going to continue down the road they’ve been on where only their hardcore fan base is supporting them… which can only last so long.

    3. I honestly feel that there’s nothing that Nintendo can lose by making smart phone games, but they can definitely gain from it. They’re being developed by another company (DeNA or whatever), and probably being somewhat supervised by NoJ as to what games they will develop. I’m not absolutely crazy about mobile phone games unless they are designed to be played on a smart phone (as in mission-based/level-based games, not things like full-fledged RPGs) and not forced in terms of controls (my hands just honestly refuse to get used to any sort of “virtual d-pad” controls, as it just plain feels a little bit too finicky with most games that use it). Also, as a “real Nintendo fan”, I’m not planning on “refusing” to buy anything. If something doesn’t interest me, it doesn’t interest me, and I may not buy it (such as some of Nintendo’s recent forays, like Federation Force, AC amiibo Festival, or AC Happy Home Designer). There’s different audiences for games out there, and I will be happier if more games are created to appease these different audiences (through mobile games, in this case), while not forgetting about previous audiences, which is what Nintendo is doing.

  1. Just make the game already! & quit acting like Kanye West when it comes to gaming!!
    Nintendo acts like:”The party don’t start until I arrive fasionably late.”
    Al La Kanye!!!
    Make the game then Make a fast buck. Repeat Cycle.

  2. Nintendo Sub-Commander Cereza

    You’re all forgetting that making fast money is never the top priority. What truly matters is an immersive experience made with careful consideration, discipline and discretion. The game that drops in the unsacred lands will make a sound heard all around the world.

    1. |||Nintendo Dark Commander Quadraxis-NX Prime|||

      -||As long as they don’t touch Metroid, at least until we get a proper game||-

  3. Mushroom Kingdom builder? I’m really expecting a game where we build a kingdom with the vast array of Mario characters to unlock along the way. I doubt it’s a Pokemon since Pokemon Go is still being hyped up, it’d be dumb to release another Pokemon game on mobile. It’s likely Mario, that’s really the safest bet for the next title since Miitomo wasn’t all too well received. That could change when it’s released but announcing a Mario title to follow will at least make people less pissed off.
