Nintendo Initially Wants 100 Million My Nintendo Members Globally

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has ambitious plans for the Club Nintendo replacement which is titled My Nintendo. Kimishima has told investors that “We would like to set ‘100 million My Nintendo members globally’ as our initial milestone. Since this number should be considered as a check point, we will make efforts in order to achieve this number at the earliest possible timing.” The rewards program will offer two sets of rewards currency – the first will be for mobile and the second will be for console games. Both of these can be cashed in for some lucrative rewards and you’ll be offered personalised discounts and recommendations based on your usage patterns.

“Increasing the number of My Nintendo members will be one of the most important missions” for the company, as it will make it possible to put the company’s IP in front of more people via this service.”

“Accordingly, after the release of Miitomo in March, we will steadily release game apps for smart devices.”

“…  When we release smart device apps with our popular IP in the future, we will design them in a way that will encourage consumers to become My Nintendo members.”

“For each app, we will review and select the most appropriate payment system by taking into consideration the nature of each IP. But we are thinking of mainly deploying free-to-start type apps as we hope as many people as possible among hundreds of millions of people all around the world who own smart devices will experience our apps.”

  1. Those discounts would sound great if only I didn’t have doubts about how good they actually will be. Something around the lines of 5 dollars off Mario party at full price when you can get it on Amazon for probly half the full retail price lol

  2. “… When we release smart device apps with our popular IP in the future, we will design them in a way that will encourage consumers to become My Nintendo members.”

As in, they’ll probably make it mandatory to create a My Nintendo account for you to be able to use the apps. Seems like the easiest way to increase the number of members.
Honestly, the program sounds quite good so far. Being rewarded for actually playing the games instead of their purchase only seems really nice. Can’t wait to see how it’s going to turn out in the end, and what they will make out of it over the months and years.

      1. Of course they won’t go all “if you want to play our apps, you gotta sign up”. Obviously, they’ll try to make it sound as nice and pleasant as possible. That’s business lingo.
But it’s just speculation on my part anyway, so you shouldn’t take it too seriously. :)

      1. Oh, yes I know that. What I meant to say is that I think it’s pretty neat we’re getting rewarded for both playing and purchasing the games. :)
Sorry if it wasn’t clear enough in my original comment.

  3. “The rewards program will offer two sets of rewards currency – the first will be for mobile and the second will be for console games. ”

Sweet! So I can fully avoid their mobile products and not think I’m missing out on anything for the console side.

    1. But what if there are good rewards locked behind the mobile currency? I doubt that will happen though, if anything the good rewards will be locked behind the console games’ currency, which will encourage people to play on dedicated systems.

      1. Mobile rewards for mobile games is what I’m understanding. Which I don’t care for.

But console rewards for console games is what I want. I’m glad it’s distinguished so I don’t need to waste time on the mobile titles to reap console rewards.

  4. Well im glad we got some infomation out of the way heh 100 million members that’s like 100 million Nintendo users who will used this deal.
