Developer Rebellion Still In The Dark About Nintendo NX

The Nintendo NX platform is predicted to launch this year but developers are still in the dark regarding exactly what the NX actually is. Development studio Rebellion who are behind such titles as Sniper Elite V2 on Wii U, Rogue Trooper on Wii, and Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death on GameCube says they have no clue what form or shape the Nintendo NX will take, which is surprising given the hardware is speculated to launch this year.

“Nintendo are brilliant. They’re a fabulous company and I love them. I always feel they’re quite eccentric. They come up with some incredible hardware. Even the Virtua Boy back in the day was really intriguing, and then the clamshell design of their handhelds. To be honest, I just don’t know [whether Rebellion will support NX]. The only way I can answer the question is, when we know what the machine is we’ll see and we’ll have a look. I’ve always loved Nintendo, I love their games and love their hardware.

“I know no more about [NX] than you do, so we’d be purely speculating. If it’s something that will run our games and if it isn’t some weird wobble balance board or something that’s totally irrelevant to what we’re doing then, if we can and if there’s a market there, if there’s a commercial opportunity, then we definitely want to capitalise on that.”

Whether or not Rebellion’s future games will come to NX, though, Kingsley can’t yet say. “I can’t say yes, I can’t say no at this stage,” he said, “because I don’t actually know what [NX] is.”

  1. Seems like an awful lot of small devs haven’t even heard a peep about the NX. Nintendo is shooting themselves in the foot if the NX (home console) is launching this Fall. All indicators point towards a portable this year and home console to follow.

      1. You’re right, Shane. Evidently, it was the president of KOEI TECMO who says the Nintendo NX is a HOME platform.

Hahahha no wonder they’re in the dark. They did nothing but develop shit for Wii U. Of shit period.
Nintendo wouldn’t let them in the circle of trust.

  4. Media loves to try and force information out. Can anyone just wait until Nintendo announce it. They can asked all these questions then. No information is coming out until it is announce and if by chance some information do come out; no one will believe it.

      1. I am not him and I agree the intro music is very lame. I only use youtube to view videos not upload them. I would definitely not be associated with that part of the youtube community.

            1. Yeah for one thing im sure you have furniture in your house. Lol. And wouldnt say no dumb shit” The wii u will have all your defnitive of all your favorite games.”

  5. Honestly, this is just me thinking, but… Even if these devs know anything about the NX, wouldn’t there also be severe non-disclosure agreements making certain they /don’t/ talk about this stuff?

It just seems kinda silly that it feels like these smaller devs keep being asked to spill the beans. Even if they do know, do you think they’d really risk their position as a developer like that for something people can just wait three months for, now?

    1. Actually your right about that…I know a dev myself but I can’t point out his name. Why? Because he got a dev kit and he told me the rules, so even if I truly wanted too, I can’t say it fully. So yeah, your actually right about that.

  6. After that uninspired POS port of sniper V2 I can see exactly why they’re being left in the dark. That game was trash on the Wii U, how can you even justify it when a fucking practice mode is cut out.

  7. Clarification for anyone who’s wondering: Any developer currently has access to an SDK, while the dev units themselves are in the possession of a handful of major devs (or devs who are part of a few major publishers). Game development is happening, but the lack of a dev kit means they don’t know what the controller or system interface will entail.

    1. Extension to what I said: Dev kits will eventually be available for all developers, and in the meanwhile (as said above) those without them are working with an SDK approximation of the hardware.

  8. If this was a big 3rd party, I’d be surprised (and a little worried) if they haven’t received any NX info at this point. Since its a small developer, this isn’t really big news… Honestly, I doubt we’ll see anything until E3… Though its hard for me to wait until then XD

  9. Man, back in the days of the NES and SNES, I was familiar with SO many game developers. Capcom, Konami, Hudson Soft, Activision, Acclaim, THQ, Squaresoft, Tecmo, Natsume, Sony Imagesoft, LJN (the list goes on). But these days, there’s SO many more companies that I never even heard of (even popular ones like Bethesda) that I stopped paying attention or caring.
