Nintendo Abandons Trademark For Hyrule Warriors

It has emerged today that Nintendo has abandoned the Hyrule Warriors trademark in the United States Patent and Trademark Office today. Whether this is simply a case of the Kyoto based company forgetting to renew the trademark remains to be seen. To be honest this seems like the most likely scenario as Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors Legends have proved to be fairly popular titles.

Thanks, Louis C

    1. >_< I just rented Wii U one, and ended up playing it for 20 or so minutes. Mainly because I'm not really into hack and slash games, and its really similar to a Dragon Quest version that I was also renting lol. Kinda want to play it again, though.

    1. I was gonna say the same thing. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if another game company picked it up and started using it? I could see The Elder Scrolls: Hyrule Warriors coming out in a few years.

  1. I’d be surprised if “Hyrule” wasn’t protected so I wouldn’t worry about Hyrule Warriors being taken away.

        1. “It has emerged today that Nintendo has abandoned the Hyrule Warriors trademark in the UNITED STATES Patent and Trademark Office today.” Nope, it’s America. It’s NoA’s job to keep up with stuff like this in the United States, not NoJ’s.

  4. Even if they didn’t intend to make any more Hyrule Warriors games in the near future, its still stupid to abandon the trademark. NoA probably just failed to renew it or something lol. I don’t see any other reason to just drop a trademark :p

    1. Exactly. The whole Hyrule warriors farce making an inferior port for the 3DS and focusing all attention on bringing content to that while complete abandoning wii U version made me abandon the game.
