Nintendo Reconfirms Amiibo Support For Nintendo Switch And Clarifies Additional Features

IGN recently contacted Nintendo of America to clarify a few things about the forthcoming Nintendo Switch console. The company was asked whether the Switch will support amiibo to which they answered “absolutely.” “If a Nintendo Switch game supports amiibo then the Nintendo Switch home gaming system will as well,”

Nintendo of America were also questioned about the Nintendo Switch Dock functionality,  “The Nintendo Switch Dock has been created so that it is extremely easy to seamlessly switch from playing games on a TV to transition into a portable mode.”

“The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system.”

“According to Nintendo, the Joy-Con controllers — named Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R — will be included alongside the Nintendo Switch system.”

    1. Explain, I don’t understand. I know a name of the console will ruin the machine and the “con”trollers always were called “CON”trollers, so explain why would it be a bad thing? Con L and Con R just means controller Left and Controller Right for short, I mean, if that’s a name for controller, then you need to go back to school. Think about it.

How would a game support amiibo and the home gaming system not support amiibo? Aren’t they kind of… You know… Hand in hand? Am I missing something?

      1. I kid I kid. If I were serious, I would actually be a hater. But I’m glad Nintendo has learned their lesson. Trufuly, I liked the idea if the gamepad but obviously they had trouble using its full potential. Glad they didn’t throw that idea out the window, but instead improved it.

      2. Oh yeah, now they could focus on getting Banjo & Kazooie back. With the Switch being rumored to be so powerful, the StinkBox systems will be gone before we know it! And the duo returned to their rightful home.

  2. They said that because Breath of the Wild already has Amiibo support. Since that will be a Nintendo Switch game, the Switch will also need to support Amiibos. It was wide kinda funny, but that was the message they were trying to get across.

    1. Technology is advanced and cheaper to produce then ever. I know it’s not publicly known that much but we have advanced a TON in 2016. Just think of it this way… you take a big, huge bulky console like PS4 that was released in 2013… and SQUISH it. That’s this. Pretty amazing, huh? What you should be worried about is how the charging works… I really don’t want to bring my dock to my friends house just to charge…

  3. Of course Amiibo will be supported. It was the thing which did not put the wii U into oblivion. Furthermore not being funny but that console is not really a home console and understand what the current CEO was saying back then (not being a Wii U replacement).By that I mean if the dock does not have a graphic boost to upscale and give more power to the graphic card then I think the NX is fucked already.

I really can’t see how a console will be able to play demanding game or even recent game which will satisfy hardcore gamers. Again and just to make sure we are on the same page those statements does not look go in my book:
“The Nintendo Switch Dock has been created so that it is extremely easy to seamlessly switch from playing games on a TV to transition into a portable mode.”

“…. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system.”

    1. I’m worried about the same thing. Then again, this is Nintendo. They’re not exactly the best at explaining things and making everything clear. I’m hopeful that the docking station will add more power to the console.

I explained why I don’t think it is not a real home console and argue my case. Thing you didn’t do. So do me a favour grow up a bit, then come and talk to me when you are wiser and calmer.

Well according to the above statement it sounds like the Nintendo Switch is a handheld with the ability to play on the TV screen, or am I missing something?

Well…with that statement the “thought” about the NSdock will provide more power to the “Console” is debunked; all those patents, too. So.. now we’re talking with the truth in hand, and IT SUCK!

I smell this is a Tegra X1/X2 custom. Nothing more than that, i can’t believe the Nintendo Switch have a 8-core chip with 8gb ram, it’s almost Impossible to think that with this news.
So no PS4/Xone power, maybe on par if it’s the Tegra X2.

      1. It isn’t. We are used to think Nintendo learn from their mistakes in terms of hardware. They’ve learned a few things with the trailer, of course, but I’m not saying will be a bad console, is just that will never be the console “most” devs and people wanted to be.

Now i’m convince that only good games and gameplay will bring people to the console, but having the ps4 graphics with good gameplay could have been better in this new gen.
We know Nintendo do excellent games with good gameplay, but not every dev will jump to the console soon.

      2. I will wait to make a decision on that until more info and the actual console releases. The design is solid, the “idea” makes sense. If it is close to the other two in the power department, even just close, then it will do just fine.

Yeh, I wonder why Nintendo still hasn’t learned to take advice on their hardware design from pretentious fucks on the internet who haven’t designed a toaster, let alone a video game system, despite them being the oldest living maker of game consoles.

      4. Maybe they should just keep rehashing the same old thing like Sony does. The PS4 is only a little more powerful than the PS3 and adds little extra (struggles to do 1080p 60fps), The PS4 Pro is only marginally more powerful than a PS4 (will struggle hard to do quality 4k) and adds pretty much nothing else…not even UHD Blu-ray. Do you really want to keep buying the same old thing just a little more power, I’m sure Sony loves you for it. If you’re so concerned about the power of the system, you should ditch your under powered consoles and buy a good gaming computer. They have far more power than any of the consoles do.

      5. I agree to some extent. There is no point in releasing the same damn with a little bit of more power when the actual content and games look very similar.

The reason i am more loyal to nintendo is that they don’t only have “Graphics” in the equation. they always explore other gameplay elements. With every new nintendo game solid new content s always guaranteed. Not just a prettier picture of an old game coughBlackOpscough.

if the ports rumor is true then the NS is more than power than the Wii U statement is a given. since they refer to them ports as “enhanced ports”. Though i have to admit that the size of the NS makes me question whether this added power is actually significant or not.
