Miyamoto: A Younger Team Taking the Lead On Nintendo Switch Development And Designing The System

Newly launched gaming website Glixel recently had the opportunity to speak to revered Nintendo game developer, Shigeru Miyamoto. A number of interestingΒ things cropped up in the interview including the revelation that it is mainly a younger development team taking the lead on development of the Nintendo Switch. He also went on to say that they have basically designed the system while he has taken more of a back seat role.

“There was a misunderstanding around my supposed retirement. Really at the time what we were talking about was giving more opportunity and more leadership opportunity to younger people in the company. So rather than me leading everything we were really expanding that role out to others that had come up within the company. Somehow that got misinterpreted as the fact that I was retiring.

We have these younger people in the company who are taking the lead on Switch development and it’s really been them that have put this forward and designed this system. They’re the ones that have really shepherded it through the process. Because of that, what it’s allowed me to do is focus on other projects like Super Mario Run or the Universal theme park. I’m going to keep looking for these kinds of opportunities where I can do something new and fun.”

    1. If anything miyamoto may be the antichrist trying to deceive us using lies and charming the children to make them slaves of a dark agenda in later years.

      Just kidding Lol XD

  1. I’d call this a good thing. Nintendo needs new blood taking charge so they can truly move forward and understand how to dominate the modern gaming market. They’re older leaders seem stuck in some bad old ways. About time to get more in touch with the modern market and community

    1. I have been saying this for many years! The new zelda game is a great example aswell. They put younger people in charge and we get a zelda game that belongs in the current gaming world, and adds some new things aswell.

I love what the guy did back in the 80’s and 90’s but after that I haven’t seen much intresting things from him.

    1. Wii U had a bundle with the Pro Controller, but I’m pretty sure the default set will only include the main console, the dock and the Joy-Cons with the grip.

My major worry is having multitouch screen and the ability to use in vertical, like a tablet.

I’m also hoping for different versions of Joy Con, with different button settings and placement.

  2. Why he didn’t mention that he is also in charge of the Switch mario game? Could this mean that this mario game for Switch has a director like Breath of The Wild has one?

      1. I really hope it does happen one day and that they advance it appropriately and make as great a game as they did with F-Zero GX. For now it’s just a dream.

  3. This is nothing but good news. I hope they continue to do so. Now if only they can get someone younger in charge so they can do away with their retarded DMCA takedowns, everything would be peachy.

  4. Thank god. Hopefully the console wont baby us and wont hold back any good features. They better not play catch up and have features that were established in the 7th gen… It should be ultra modern considering this is now the 9th gen.

    1. This is Gen 8.5, there is no bigger upgrade in the current systems, PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio are just upgrades of the current hardware, not brand new consoles, even Switch is an upgraded Wii U, not only in power but in proposal too.

      1. My point still stands.
But what you are saying now is was what I was saying when the NX was first announced. Kind of like a “Sub-Gen”, because the “Super WiiU” was cancelled and NX took it’s place… I just settled for “9th” gen since it was getting so damn confusing.

  5. This is very good news. Shigeru Miyamoto is hands down the greatest mind in gaming and no one can dispute that but he may be a bit behind the times so having the younger employees incorporating their ideas and taking care of things while being mentored by the older members is a recipe for success. This definitely explains why 3rd party franchises like Skyrim and the Dark Souls series are coming or could be coming to the Switch. Nintendo is trying to get with the times….finally and I’m excited

    1. I hope you are excited about me, i have some wet underwear for you baby. That “P” avatar makes me horny.

    1. To call some of the current feminists feminists is an insult to the movement’s original goal of equality since some these days are trying to dominate instead. :/

  6. Well it’s natural for companies to learn up new star for the future and needed for the future. This usually also becomes a good mix of established wisdom and fresh and new ideas.

  7. I’m just going to comment in every post that comes up with 1/2 game/s that I would kill to see realistically released on the switch.

Hopefully my little contribution will act like a drip of water in the ocean…..

    Metroid Prime game
    Mario Sunshine game

….what is the ocean if not a multitude of drops.

  8. I like the sound of this! Maybe there is hope for region free, cross buy, cross save, etc after all.
