Koei Tecmo Promises To Heavily Support Nintendo Switch

Koei Tecmo have been very supportive of Nintendo for the past few years. The Dynasty Warriors developer released Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U and 3DS, but they’ve already announced a Fire Emblem Warriors game for the Nintendo Switch. The company has promised that they’ll be heavily supporting Nintendo’s latest console with both multi-platform and exclusive games.

  • Koei Tecmo had an increases in profit for the 7th consecutive year in a row.
  • Ni-Oh shipped 1 million in its first two weeks and was a notable highlight of this fiscal year.
  • Musou All-Stars (Koei character Dynasty Warriors like game, 130K) and Blue Reflection (Gust New IP, 80K) were below expectations.
  • They are focusing on expanding their mobile presence with games like Toukiden and that Gust magical girls game.
  • On the mobile front, Dynasty Warriors Unleashed (made by Nexon) is going very well, and had 3 million downloads as of this report along with good earnings results. The game just hit 5 million downloads today, and I believe it’s not out in Japan yet.
  • Koei Tecmo expects next year to be a record revenue and profit year for the company between Dynasty Warriors 9, Fire Emblem Warriors, and some unannounced products.
  • For traditional console/PC titles, Koei Tecmo expects to ship 3.75 million units overseas (was 3.27 million) and 2.65 million domestically (was 3.06 million). This implies a strong overseas bent (including Asia), and I would say at least one more Western heavy and one more non-Japan-Asian heavy title will be announced soon given the regional breakdowns (2.2 million for US/EU, 1.07 for non-Japan Asia).
  • Koei Tecmo’s motto for this fiscal year is the “creation and expansion of IPs”, so expect both new IPs and fancy entries in existing ones. I guess you could read Fire Emblem as the former and Dynasty Warriors as the latter.
  • Koe Tecmo has more collaboration titles a la Fire Emblem coming this year for Japanese and Global audiences.
  • Koei Tecmo has also created a new studio brand called Midas, which is staffed by employees in their 20s and 30s, and is tasked with creating smartphones games while being afforded lots of freedom in how to go about that. Koei hasn’t had a ton of success on mobile (sans the game they outsourced to Nexon), so it makes sense to let people who play mobile games give this a go.
  • There will be anniversary content for Atelier, Tecmo, and Omega Force, the last of which is Dynasty Warriors 9.
  • As reported previously, Koei Tecmo will heavily support the Switch with both lots of multiplatform games and some exclusives a la Fire Emblem.
  • Koei Tecmo is also making a VR version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 and some VR arcade hardware.
  • Finally, Koei Tecmo is working to avoid game delays in the future.

    1. Yes please Nintendo / K.T. they hold the IP to a very unique survival horror game that has die hard fans. They could honestly just remaster the first 4. Market them well and make money easily. 5 just port over. Hell even port over the 4th / 2nd on Wii from Japan / Europe

  1. I would gladly buy a Switch port of Hyrule Warriors day one, but only if I could carry over my save file from Wii U. Wayyy too many hours into that game to start over from scratch!

    1. Loved Hyrule Warriors.
As long as they ported all the features from both versions, maybe add some features and weapons to some later characters, and I would definitely buy it, even if I had to start all over again.

      1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits. This use to be something that awaited those for all consoles. It's sad it's mostly just a PS4 slogan these days. Maybe Nintendo will get back to that greatness with the Switch. Only time will tell.} says:

Maybe they will in the same vein as Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate which was the 3rd expansion of Warriors Orochi 3. Hyper on Wii U was the second. Ultimate came with new content & characters so here’s hoping a 3rd iteration of Hyrule Warriors does the same. (A sequel would be nice as well.)

      2. I don’t know if they could do enough difference to warrant sequel with Hyrule. They used like every character of the franchise with that one game and DLC characters.

I want to see how they do with Fire Emblem.
That IP could has enough characters to make a warriors game for every FE iteration.
But my guess is they just take the most prominent characters of every game and make either a spin off story or a dimension mash up like Heroes on mobile.

That won’t stop them. And with Breath of the Wild, they have new characters they can use for a sequel & even a new big bad. Not to mention they can create their own original characters like they did with Lana, Volga, Cia, & Linkle. Not to mention a few other characters they used didn’t really get much in-game story usage like Ruto, for instance. That poor girl only got to be integral to two stages & one of them where she didn’t show up til the end of the stage & wasn’t even part of the combat of the stage as she only appeared after the stage was cleared. Then there is Nabooru, Saria, & Malon who were left out completely. And a few other characters that were simply relegated to palette swaps disguised as alternate costumes instead of being actual characters… like Hilda from Link Between Worlds who was a palette swap for Zelda.
