Walmart Cancelling SNES Classic Pre-Orders

I assumed that I was one of the lucky ones when I secured my SNES Classic pre-order when they went live on Walmart last week, but that luck quickly ran out when I checked my e-mail today and saw this from Deserie of Walmart.com;

Hi Adam,

Thank you for your interest in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System – Classic Edition. As you are aware, this is a highly sought after console that will launch later this fall.

Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, the Super Nintendo Classic Edition was mistakenly made available last Friday evening ahead of the official release date. We, regrettably, will have to cancel this item on your order. We know that this is incredibly disappointing to you, and we’re truly sorry for this mistake.

In regards to the cancellation of this item, if you paid by credit card, your card has not been charged. Any authorization holds placed on your account will automatically expire in accordance with the card issuer’s policy. If you paid through PayPal or with a gift card, your payment will be refunded when the order is cancelled.

The official launch date for this item is 9/29, please check the product page on Walmart.com prior to that date for any updates.

I do hope you’ll give us another chance to earn back your business.

Warm regards,
Deserie Dulaney
Sr. Director Customer Care

So, unfortunately my quest for the SNES Classic must start anew!

Good luck to everyone and we will update you as soon as pre-orders go live once again, and hopefully at that time it will be for real!

  1. This is a terrible thing. I was so excited when I got my order put in because I knew it was a chance of a lifetime. My heart was broken when I saw that email from Walmart an hour ago….

    1. I feel the same way. I was so glad to have pre-ordered one, as the SNES was my first console. I’m sure we will have other chances, but it’s always a shame when you think you secured one, and then it was all but a lie.

  2. These assholes probably just wanted to research the demand for the console, to know how many they can order. It’s impossible that this is a glitch! It could be a mistake by an employee, but not a glitch!

    1. No, it’s not impossible. Bugs in the system happen all the time. They wouldn’t do this on purpose to “research demand” because the consumer backlash is something they always want to avoid.

      1. Bugs like these DON’T happen all the time! What happens all the time is that companies claim it’s a bug when in fact it was an employee! Just like when google collected all the network information from private houses back when they made Street View. They also claimed it’s a bug, because they know uneducated people like you believe this shit! I’m a programmer, I know that bugs and glitches don’t behave like that!

  3. Got the same email about an hour ago :(
    BUT! Then a few minutes ago I got another email saying they updated my preorder date… Don’t know which one to trust. There MIGHT still be a little hope that they’ll honor our preorders… maybe…

    1. I got both emails as well. I just pulled up my Walmart order, and it doesn’t say cancelled yet. It says the release date is the 29th but that it’s still processing. It’s probably just vain hope though…

  4. Ugh, not again with cancelled preorders, though at this point, are we really surprised? First there were amiibo fiascos, then NES Classic, then Switch (admittedly that one is *kind of* forgivable because they’re competing for parts), and now this.

    This reeks of mismanagement.

  5. This is good news for me. Since I was too late to preorder. I’m hoping that NO STORES do preorders, so that maybe I’ll have a chance to buy one in stores on the release day. Seriously, I hate when stores sell their entire stock of something just on preorders.

  6. Ridley X3 {R.I.P. Chester Bennington of Linkin' Park. Thank you for the awesome music. You will be missed. *cries*}

    So glad I don’t go after these. Otherwise, I’d be more pissed than I already am since there are some amiibo recently released that I haven’t fucking gotten yet and missing out on the SNES & NES Mini would not have done me any favors!
