Pokemon Company clarifies that Pokemon Legends: Arceus isn’t open world, instead like Monster Hunter

Kotaku recently got in touch with with The Pokemon Company to clarify whether or not the forthcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be a fully open world like Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption 2. The Pokemon Company clarified that the upcoming Nintendo Switch game will more like the Monster Hunter series with designated areas rather than a fully realised open world game like Breath of the Wild. Here’s what The Pokemon Company told Kotaku.

The Pokémon Company has sent Kotaku a statement confirming the Monster Hunter-esque structure of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Jubilife Village will serve as the base for surveying missions. After receiving an assignment or a request and preparing for their next excursion, players will set out from the village to study one of the various open areas of the Hisui region. After they finish the survey work, players will need to return once more to prepare for their next task. We look forward to sharing more information about exploring the Hisui region soon.

    1. They do something new and people will complain that they ain’t gone back to their roots.

    1. It’s still a massive step up from how previous Pokemon games played out. If your interest is “just dead now” because it’s not completely open world, you must have never played a Pokemon game. I’m beyond excited to see what they do with the format and where they take the story. Just that shot of jumping out of the water on a Basculegion and throwing a pokeball in midair is enough to get me hype.

      1. The fact you needed to say “YOU’VE NEVER PLAYED A POKEMON GAME” like you know me shows how ignorant you are. I hate to tell you this but I’ve been playing Pokemon since Red Blue and Yellow…. I’ve always wanted an Open World Pokemon game and the fact that the trailers constantly looked like an Open World game led me to believe it was the Pokemon Game I was hoping for… but it isn’t…

Also, you realize this is an opinion, right?
You didn’t need to comment and complain about me no longer being interested.

      2. Pretty depressing that you’re getting likes when your post is complete nonsense.

“It’s still a massive step up from how previous Pokemon games played out. ”

This is completely subjective. It is neither better nor worse than the Pokemon norm, or completely open world, or fully linear.

“If your interest is “just dead now” because it’s not completely open world, you must have never played a Pokemon game.”

…..What? Honestly this is just an embarrassing statement. Why on earth would his interest being in open world have anything to do with whether or not he’s played a pokemon game? And lets assume that your 100% random criticism here were true, so what? Lets say he has never played a Pokemon game before. Maybe, the potential of an open world Pokemon game, is what had him interested in the first place. What exactly would be wrong with that?

“Just that shot of jumping out of the water on a Basculegion and throwing a pokeball in midair is enough to get me hype.”

Which has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with what gets other people hyped. You’re just whining that other people have different tastes than you.

He can not like the game, while you like the game. Both can happen at the same time, and that’s ok.

  1. I caught Vaporeon, Gyarados, Octillery, Golduck, Walrein, and Tentacruel on shield. I want them to be transferred to Arceus.

  2. I just don’t understand how on earth people thought it was open world? The Pokemon company is sooo lazy and puts so minimal work into their games in recent years that i knew this wouldn’t be open world. To me at least this was 100% obvious

  3. eye twitch Ugh… The only way I’m getting this game now is if Eevee is easily catchable at the very start of the game. Otherwise, I’ll pass on this just like I did with “New” Pokemon Snap. Good news is I can now look forward to the original game of PokeSnap at some point since N64 will be on NSO soon.

  4. Drifblim using mystical fire. I hope it’s not like the Blaziken using ice punch. The final build of ORAS didn’t let Blaziken use ice punch. I want a Drifblim using mystical fire. Pokemon do get movesets updated such as Gyarados getting earthquake in gen 3 from a TM.

  5. I wish the rest of the pokemon were patched into galar. I miss Johto starters (except Megainium), Sinnoh starters, Deoxys, kalos starters, Samurott and Camerupt the most.

    1. You’re obsessed.
This takes place centuries before those characters were even born.
Did the doctor drop you on your head? Do you hear voices? Are you… on CRACK!? lol

(If this makes anyone laugh, you’re welcome! Even if it’s a sarcastic “this shit ain’t funny” laugh!)
