The Palpatine* Saga
I find it extremely strange that “the skywalker saga” was invented as a marketing term to go along with Episode IX, entirely as a way to try and convince the audience that the Skywalkers were some kind of small compartmentalized non-important aspect of the series and the fans just went with it and picked up the marketing term immediately.
Shoot, it doesn’t even make sense to include 7-9 as part of it if you’re calling something “the skywalker saga” as the skywalkers are barely in it.
“entirely as a way to try and convince the audience that the Skywalkers were some kind of small compartmentalized non-important aspect of the series”
That’s not the reason for it at all.
They’re referring to episodes 1-9 as “The Skywalker Saga” simply because it tells the story of the Skywalker family, from start to finish, and now that it’s been finished they’ve said that future Star Wars movies are going to move their focus away from them, onto new stories and characters.
It’s the exact same way Marvel have called phase 1-3 of the MCU “The Infinity Saga”, it’s just a name for that particular story arc.
It’s certainly not to say the Skywalkers are “unimportant”, really not sure where you got that idea from.
