Noisy Pixel managed to get some hands-on time with the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge which the developers at Tribute Games are hoping will be released this summer. They also had a chance to chat with Frédéric Gémus, one of the game designers at Tribute Games, and they subsequently picked his brains about various aspects of the game, which is by all accounts shaping up nicely. Mr. Gémus said that they have approached each level in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge as an episode of the 90s animated cartoon, which was absolutely huge back in the day. He went on to say that the team really wanted to embrace the humour and playfulness of the original cartoon. He also thinks that the animated series was “so well written and full of love for the franchise and a lot of fun in each episode” which is what they wanted to encapsulate.
“We really wanted to present each level as an episode of the animated television series. This game is not only a love letter to the older arcade games, but at its very core it is inspired by the first television show that was on. I think the reason the games were so popular back in the day — and all the toys too — was because everything in the show was so well written and full of love for the franchise and a lot of fun in each episode. It was a very playful universe that lent itself well to video games. We really wanted to bring the humorous side of the show to the game. For example, you’ll see there is a foot solider working as the secretary at the start of this level. We have details like that to evoke the humor of the show. We want those elements everywhere in the game, not just the cut scenes.”
Everything I’ve seen and heard of this game sounds like it’s going to be the best Ninja Turtles game since Turtles In Time. I’ll always love the original series of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the best. I’ve had SO many issues with the other incarnations. Looking forward to a physical release on Switch.
Agreed, it sounds like its shaping up to be something special.
Definitely anticipating Shredders Revenge!
This looks great! Can’t wait. :)
