While the jury is still out there as to whether Chris Pratt can completely nail the role of the iconic Mario in the forthcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination and Nintendo, he has said in a recent interview that he spent a lot of his childhood enjoying the various Mario games and that he started out in the arcade and then the Nintendo Entertainment System. Pratt says that he “played this game for hundreds of hours. Probably maybe 1,000 hours of my childhood” and therefore he says “nothing really compares to it in terms of my relationship to the brand.” which should hopefully come as an encouragement to those of you who are still on the fence about his selection for the role of the famous Italian plumber. Talking about the movie Pratt says that he is genuinely “really, really grateful to be a part of it.”
Chris, you’re obviously part of so many franchises that are important to fans. I’m wondering how, if at all, being part of Nintendo and Super Mario feels different from a Jurassic Park or a Marvel or a Lego.
Chris Pratt: Well, I mean, it stands alone and in its reach, I think. I think certainly, like, I loved Jurassic Park as a kid. I was 13 years old when it came out. It was a big part of my childhood. I might have seen the movie maybe five or six times through the course of growing up. Well, five or six times is you know, whatever. A few hours. I played this game for hundreds of hours.Probably maybe 1000 hours of my childhood spent. And so like the sound of hitting a coin, catching a flower, hearing the score, every little detail of the movie, it was like I was hypnotized by it as a child. So to see it now, I mean, just nothing really compares to it in terms of my relationship to the brand. So it’s pretty, pretty cool. Pretty incredible. And also, I care just as much as everyone else to make sure that doesn’t get screwed up.
As if that makes it better. Half the world probably played 10x more hours, 1000 is not a lot lol, so idk what y’all tryna to say. Oh that anybody could do a better job at the role? Too true.
The movie just looks like celebs playn’ smash, and not well. Just a gamers version of “Grown Ups”, no thanks.
Would be more interested with no big names.
1000 hours is nothing nowadays, i spent almost 500 hours playing Disgaea 6 and that’s just one game. So basically he’s proud because he spent 1000 hours playing Mario and because he had no life.
Weird flex, you’ve spent 500 hours starring into a screen and playing a video game. I’d consider what I’m doing with my limited life time.
You do know this is a Nintendo fourm right, not exactly sure what you thought gamers did. Personally when i purchase a game “i actually play it” i don’t buy games or a console just because all the cool kids are doing it.

1000 hours might be nothing for some people, but for the vast majority, that’s a whole lot of Mario (if he’s right about the amount of time of course, which who knows). Honestly, I’ve probably played only about 1000-1500 hours of Super Mario games (not including any spin-offs) and I would rank it as literally my favourite gaming series – and I’m going to guess I game a whole lot more than Chris Pratt.

I don’t think he’s done a particularly great job at voicing Mario, but the amount of hate he’s been getting for it has been waaay out of proportion.
because he’s trash, and since he got the role he was hyping up his work on it as the best thing ever heard. He did it to himself.
Nah, calling him “trash” is also way out of proportion. It’s just not a particularly unique voice or what some people personally wanted from a Mario voice. He sounds fine enough in the more recent trailers. Not good, just alright.
And the “hyping up” he’s done is just general Hollywood advertising that pretty much every big name actor has to do, regardless of the quality of the film or their own work. It’s nothing new.
And again, the sheer amount of hate he’s been receiving online is not proportional to being a mediocre voice actor in an animated children’s movie. It’s really not worth getting so upset about, the people in question really need a reality check.
I did notice in some later clips and mini-trailers tht were shown off b4 in the original 1st trailer and there is changes. Like him being launched out the pipe and lookin around? In the newer clips he no longer says anything. Just lookin around his surroundings.
Or the big where he does the “Wahoo” in the kart. Its a different Wahoo from the 2nd trailer and honestly sounds more Mario-like.
So I think they’re using extra takes to find wht best fits for the film as it inches closer to releases; Which isnt uncommon for the film industry to do.
He’s just using his regular degular voice for Mario… Spent time hyping it up as if he sounded unique… Prior I didn’t like him as he was just a trash guy with a ego about himself….
There’s many reasons I personally don’t like him and feel justified about it. You might not but it’s all subjective to you… My issue isn’t about his take on the movie though
Some hate him cuz he’s not perfect for Mario. Some hate him because it’s not Martinet. Some hate him for being a Christian. Some hate him because they are apparently psychic & think he hates his son & ex-wife because he was simply happy his current wife gave him a healthy baby girl. Apparently you can’t be happy about having a healthy child because another one you had was born sick now. For some, it’s some random mixture of the 4. shrug Whatever, though. I think he sounds fine. Don’t see where people getting this “he’s using his regular voice”, though. Sounds a little high pitched with a Brooklyn accent to me, nothing like he sounds in every other movie.

Man many people started hating on this guy after the trailer was revealed by Nintendo last year.
I had no idea there were people who were jealous of Chris Pratt until I read the comments here. It’s understandable. Chris Pratt was basically a pro gamer, it sounds like. You’d go broke playing coin-operated arcade games as a child if you played for thousands of hours… UNLESS you were so good that you could survive for hours with just one quarter.
What a legend.
I’ll be watching the new mario movie despite the hate. It’s really not that serious and I hope they did a good job with the movie. This is definitely not a sonic the movie moment were the backlash was justified. The gamer crowd is a funny bunch most of the time, proud to be a part of it lol
I’m glad the majority of ppl will still go watch the movie and don’t hang out in comments sections complaining about every thing that doesn’t fit their expectation.
