Super Mario Advance 1, 2 & 3 coming to Switch Online + Expansion Pack next week

Nintendo has been very active with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack retro libraries lately. Although it varies which retro library gets updated, Nintendo’s schedule with new additions has reached a point where it is guaranteed to see at least one retro game added a month.

Well, today is no exception. Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Advance, Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, and Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s Game Boy Advance library on May 26th. The announcement tweet is down below.

  1. I was about to say, “Awesome”, but then I realized that each of these games are ports of games that are already on NSO…

    1. Was just gonna say this and the fact that they’re being release at a snail pace as well, this business model is probbly gonna hinder their exapansion sales as people can just regular access the normal price online, and wait till the n64,gba, and gbc library to finish.

    2. True, but all of these are still very worth playing, since they play quite different from the original versions. GBA Super Mario World might even be my favorite version of the game!

Still, getting more variety in games would of course be great.

      1. I didn’t know there were any changes to write home about. I guess I will have to play them now. I only ever played the Yoshi’s Island one on the Wii U VC and it seemed almost the same.

  2. Awesome! I prefer the GBA versions over the originals and SNES versions outside of the washed out colors some of them have. I just like the added visuals they made like the bigger, pulsing hearts in SMA (SMB2).

I like the additional noises they make too. Toad’s “HEEYAAH!” sound clip from when he plucks a turnip lives rent free in my head, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  3. I mean, I prefer these over the originals because it’s what I grew up with, but I think they should prioritise games like Golden Sun or FE and save these for when the GBA selection has a decent amount.

    1. Oh yeah for sure. I’m just glad that they decided to drop all the Mario Advance games in one update. I hope we get Golden Sun next and that they don’t wait long before the next update

  4. About time, I was getting bored waiting for them, we need more Wario land games too, yoshi’s island is great because it has extra hard levels added to it, mario advance is great too a very much updated version of the original, the one I’m not really fond of is Mario world.

  5. Can’t wait. I might even play both the SNES original & the Advance semi-remake of SMW side by side to see if I can spot any differences. After beating World 1, switch to Advance & beat that World 1. Rinse & repeat for every other world. Hopefully redoing Special World back to back won’t drive me insane. 😅

      1. That’s IF I don’t do other stuff & forget to do it. Got a lot of unfinished games. For example, I started playing Death Stranding when it initially came out & STILL haven’t beaten it. 😅
