Hideki Kamiya could be following Kojima and going independent

In a shock announcement yesterday the acclaimed development studio Platinum Games announced that Hideki Kamiya decided to leave the company. There were no hints then as to what his future career will look like, but recent tweets published on X today, suggest that he could be going independent like Hideo Kojima did when he founded Kojima Productions. While Kamiya doesn’t specially state that he is starting his own studio the wording in his tweets seems to suggest that it is something he has, or is, considering. Here’s the tweets he sent out this morning on social media network, X.

“Good morning everyone… And I thought I would be bullied more because of my usual behaviour, but I am so excited to receive so many words of support… thank you so much… I’m not worried about my future at all… as long as I have your support, I will continue to make games, and I will do my best not to disappoint you…”

“When I decided to quit, many of my old friends, young friends, and staff members missed me, and some even shed tears for people like me…I am grateful for the support of those around me. I realized once again that it was me…I will continue to live my life grateful for the help of others…”

“I will continue to believe in the spirit of creation that I have always believed in through my career with Capcom No.4 Development, Clover Studio, and Platinum, no matter what anyone says… and I will continue to create works that live up to that spirit… I don’t know if I will be able to continue to make games that live up to that belief… I don’t have a formula for success, but I promise to aim for it…”

  1. Kojima has such a huge ego and those creators who went independent have failed to make an impression, death stranding is boring AF, Inafune scammed people and some of you know other examples. I wish Kamiya the best.
