Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD finally launched this week on the Nintendo Switch to good reviews and data miners have already been searching high and low through the game files to see if there’s anything of interest. One data miner has discovered that the Nintendo Switch version of Luigi’s Mansion 2 has the exact same file structure as the Nintendo 3DS version and therefore still contains a file for the now defunct StreetPass. Luigi’s Mansion 2: Dark Moon never even used the function. Here’s where Reddit user FierceDeityKong chimed in with more information on the subject:
“The original game didn’t even have StreetPass, the folder containing the Scarescraper exclusive ghosts was just named that, probably because it was originally planned. That folder wouldn’t be removed because it’s still actually being used in the game.”
What a lazy port lol. Make it hd sell it for 60 dollars and we out this bitch. I’m waiting for the switch 2 so bad cause we are gonna get some great ass s tier masterpieces from nintendo instead of… this.

Like others on the Reddit thread pointed out, the original 3DS game didn’t even USE StreetPass… so this headline is very clickbaity. Could’ve been that there was StreetPass functionality planned, but it was scrapped.
Very likely the case that all the files were simply kept intact because removing any one of them could risk breaking the game. This is, after all, a remaster, not a remake.
Had the game been completely redone from the ground up like Paper Mario TTYD, then we wouldn’t see stuff like this.
I cant believe they want full price, on a game that was $30 on an old 3DS device.

Don’t think the support for Streetpass has ended, but I don’t bring a 3DS around anymore, and I don’t think I would get any StreetPass-hits anymore either.
There are some groups out there now that are dedicated to keeping StreetPass alive.
I remember being super dedicated to getting all of the puzzle pieces back then, so it would be cool to help others fill out their boards.
Still have the 3DS and the game, so no need to buy it. However, if Street pass would return to Switch… oh, this would be delightful. And loved this feature so much.

Is porting games lazy nowadays? Sure, I won’t deny that. But we have to wait for this fall’s big releases somehow.
I also wanna point out that not even emulation can give you HD visuals for this game specifically. For whatever reason, no emulator can output resolution higher than native 3DS for Dark Moon. The Switch release is the only way to play it in HD

The comments criticizing the game are so cringe. At least go hate a game that’s actually bad and not for dumb little reasons like “oh there’s a leftover file in the game files that you only see if you datamine it and does absolutely nothing.” Go critique something real. And I’ll tell you this… the price isn’t one of those things. The original launched for $40. Adding $20 more for a HD update to the current Nintendo console is completely reasonable to anyone who’s never played the game. You’re under the assumption that if you already played the original that you are now obligated to buy it again. You’re not. Be relieved because there’s literally, LITERALLY too many games for any person to play them all, even on Switch alone (as long as you’re amicable to multiple genres).
You don’t have to rebuy Luigi’s Mansion 2. You don’t have to rebuy Donkey Kong Country Returns. Go buy a new game and have some fun.

”adding 20 more for a hd update is completely reasonable” maybe to you, but not for many, yes, this is a lazy port, and yes, the fact that the game is still filled with useless shit from the original game is more proof to add to it. metroid prime remastered is 40 at launch and it looks like a switch game, this just looks like luigi’s mansion on citra. this is nintendo, people should be vocal about when nintendo is doing lazy shit with their ip, this could have looked leagues better, it looks absolutely underwhelming. why do we need to accept mediocrity from a company that always pushes absolute pure innovation and beautiful experiences to this day? i don’t want nintendo to create more mediocrity so im not buying it. as for you? enjoy it, im not pushing you to not buy it, and this is not only you, there are a ton of people on this site that really can’t handle nintendo getting criticized, just chill out.
