Xbox fan and video game insider Jez Corden from Window’s Central has said in a new podcast about the future of Xbox that Microsoft isn’t working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game and sounds very confident in that statement. Presumably they can’t find a developer who wants to touch the esteemed platforming IP. Rare has its own projects in the works, which are Everwild and Sea of Thieves, and they have previously stated that they have no interest in revisiting older IP.

Sally isn’t even one of my most wanted newcomers for Smash. I’d rather have another Mega Man rep in Smash than another Sonic rep; I want Sally Acorn to be playable in something because she’s more likeable than most Sonic characters. And who are you to talk down to me? You would rather make up your own morals-like favoring unofficial mods over people who originally made the games that are being modded-than submit to simple authorities.

Fine by me as long as we never get another Sonic newcomer in Smash ever again, especially not that pink stalker. Also, I don’t resort to mods. Not only could they break my system or get me in trouble, but I don’t want to be the laughingstock that resorts to mods regardless of who it is.

I think the Rareware team back then wanted Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts to be successful like the previous two Banjo games. Doing a little Google search, Nuts & Bolts could not reach a quarter of a million sales. This could explain their hesitation to go back to the old series, which is quite a shame. Even Yooka-Laylee did much better than Nuts & Bolts, with 1M worldwide sales, even when it wasn’t tied to the Banjo-Kazooie story. When you look at the Conker series, the remake sold nearly as much as the original Conker, but it didn’t achieve Banjo-Kazooie numbers. I’d hate to see these series in stagnation like this, but I’d kind of understand when the team says they wouldn’t exactly be able to replicate how they were able to produce the series. When the Stamper brothers were around, and the team was there, it could be done. Different time, different place… I’m just grateful on what we got on what they produced back then, and made many memories playing their games.

Banjo will be back, but it will be the mid 2030’s before you see it, and stop listening to these pointless rumours.
Xbox should honestly sell the IP to Nintendo. Make some money off of it one last time and give it to a competent developer with the fanbase that would cherish the IP.
It does not one any good with it sitting in the vault forever untouched.
