Eurogamer managed to catch up with the head of Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka, to ask him all about the company’s upcoming Sonic x Shadow Generations which is out this October. One of the main discussions were around the Shadow Generation levels and how they will contrast with Sonic’s levels. Iizuka teased that Shadow Generations level design will feature “a lot of iconic moments from Shadow’s past in the new gameplay” as the team really “wanted to tell a new story using a lot of these familiar locations to really present Shadow as a character to players that may not have gotten the full backstory of the character.”
“For the Shadow Generations level design, the team makes sure the levels are fundamentally created to be similar to the Generations-style level design with lots of high-speed action platforming that also incorporates additional features that work when Chaos Control is used,” he says. “From there, they continue to build upon the level design through iteration to add in things that can be done with the new Doom Powers as well, so you can not only run through in the traditional Generations-style gameplay, but also find new things to do with Chaos Control and the Doom Powers.”
Just don’t expect any “Classic Shadow” levels as with Sonic, although Shadow’s perspective will still shift to 2D at times. Levels will also be taken from throughout Shadow’s appearances in games, “featuring a lot of iconic moments from Shadow’s past in the new gameplay,” says Iizuka. “We wanted to tell a new story using a lot of these familiar locations to really present Shadow as a character to players that may not have gotten the full backstory of the character, as that happened over numerous different titles, and also make sure this single title could properly introduce Shadow as a character and highlight some of the important moments in Shadow’s history.”

Classic Shadow never existed, thank you for not pulling this stunt.
However, only four games matter about Shadow: SA2, Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog, 06.
Forces would be included but given this new story is a bit before the main Generations game, it won’t be included.
Man, how many does he have to repeat the word “shadow”.
This remaster makes me wonder if we’re ever going to see a port or whatever of Shadow The Hedgehog. They probably did this because the game is “too edgy” for modern audiences, which is a shame since a remaster that does small changes like fixing the flowchart would’ve been welcome.
Probably not. If we haven’t had a modern Sonic Heroes PC port (not counting the initial release due to how buggy it is) even though the original Generations released, I doubt this remaster means much for Shadow’s game either.
Not saying it’s impossible though- I want all Sonic games to be available on PC and modern consoles. I just don’t think the remaster will have much to do with any ports if they do ever exist
Only reason why I think this may affect chances of a port or remaster is because this was essentially made to recount Shadow’s story to a new generation of gamers. They may still choose to release Adventure 1&2 and Heroes either individually or as a collection some day, but I can see why they may not bring over STH because of Shadow saying damn it, and the brand is extremely kid friendly these days. It’s still weird to think they were marketing it for teenagers when the writing is still overly cheesy.
If they ever have enough time to reshape and fix certain balances from the game as a remaster, then it is still possibly to have another port in a modern consoles. Who knows.
Did Sega just confirm we’re getting a Shadow vs Mephiles rematch?
While we’re adding to the wishlist: Rouge and Omega BETTER APPEAR in Shadow’s story!
I hope so. Mephiles was a cool character. Shadow first meets Mephiles in Kingdom Valley and that level is already confirmed, so maybe we’ll get Mephiles too
One can only hope🤩
I was thinking other characters like Infinite and Mephiles should comeback even so Shadow did encounter them before and battle them. Mephiles is still a great character and I think is more welcome to come back in some form in the story possibly.
Shame that most of games Shadow has appeared in are mostly terrible.
Sa2 heroes are great games especially for there time and shadow 05 isn’t that bad
