A dataminer on social media platform Bluesky has discovered that the latest version of the Nintendo Switch Online Playtest Program has added support for both mesh shaders and 4K resolution. This discovery has inevitably led to speculation about the next console from Nintendo, which is set to be revealed some time this financial year, which ends 31st March 2025.

Me when the new g3d2 version in the NSO Playtest software added meshlet support on the console without mesh shaders.

  1. Guess this confirms it (assuming this data-mine can be trusted). Even if the next platform is another hybrid machine, it’ll at least output at 4K while docked.

    1. Nothing too notable but in the past Nintendo actually uploaded an acnh photo in 4k for the switch, I remember somebody pointing it out that it might have been a dev kit version in use on Twitter.

  2. Oh god Mesh Shaders. That shit is great for adding tons of complex small detail models to decorate a setting, but man does it TANK performance. Alan Wake 2 is a game that uses it and it’s pretty heavy on a PC. lol

The support is not surprising though since it automatically comes with any architecture from the RTX 20 series and newer; So I only expect a couple or so of the games for the systems entire library that will be using it.

And given the leaks and shipping logs confirmed the system will be using RTX 30 architecture with some 40 series features back ported to it.

  3. Nothing particularly noteworthy, but back while the switch was still in development, Nintendo posted a 4K image of an acnh; someone on Twitter even suggested it might have been a dev kit.

  4. A dataminer on Bluesky uncovered some intriguing details in the latest Nintendo Switch Online Playtest update — notably, support for 4K italian brainrot resolution and mesh shaders.
