New FCC filing suggests Switch 2 might have Gamecube Switch Online controller

One unlikely source that has given us a bit more insight into what the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be like is the FCC. Not that long ago, an FCC filing suggested that the Switch 2 would have Wi-Fi 6 and NFC for amiibo support. However, another FCC filing has made an appearance earlier today, and this one may be even more interesting.

At first glance, what Nintendo has filed to the FCC seems innocent. It’s a game controller, but fans picked up on how similar it is to the Gamecube controller. Not only that, but it has the prefix for the Switch 2 model number, not its predecessor. Because of this, fans are wondering if this FCC filing may actually be for a Nintendo Switch Online Gamecube controller for the Switch 2.

Nintendo did confirm that Switch Online will be available on the Switch 2, so it isn’t out of the realm of possibility. And a new console would be a perfect opportunity for Nintendo to debut a new retro console library. Still, it is worth remembering that this is based mainly on speculation. It hasn’t been officially confirmed either. Nevertheless, you can see a picture of the item featured in the FCC filing down below.

  1. I really don’t see a Gamecube app from ever happening. It’s just not feasible.

I reckon HD remakes is more Nintendo’s speed. We’ve already gotten….3, I think? I guess 4 if you count Sunshine in Mario 3D All-Stars. Also 6 if you count the Pikmin ports.

      1. When you read this kind of stupid comment, you quickly understand that Trump, unfortunately, has several clones.

    1. Why a GC on the Switch Online is not feasible? if it’s true that the Switch 2 scomes default with 256gb of storage like the rumor said, then i don’t see any reason why it’s a problem? Processing power for the emulation overhead is also not a problem.

      1. The download size is still an issue. Also, some games would require the gamecube controller because of it’s shoulder buttons so that’s a bit inconvenient for the average Switch player, especially the average handheld player.

Also, Nintendo would make more money just remastering certain ones and that’s a very Nintendo thing to do. Or actually… I could see them just doing like a Gamecube VC where you just buy the games you want. At least the customer can make the decision if it’s worth it or not (buying the GC controller, storage space, etc).

So yeah, I could end up being wrong but I really doubt we’ll see a Gamecube app.

        1. We’ve gotten GameCube ports without the need of a GCN controller, so the controller is obviously not necessary.

Nintendo would definitely NOT make more money remastering those games. This is why the service exist. A monthly charge for the same games, make them insane money.

I’ve personally have had my subscription since 2018, and and the plus since 2021. If since 2018 I paid the $50 a year (which I pay for the family plan, but let’s go with the $50/m plan) I would have already paid $350. And I personally only play the DK games and a few Mario SNES games. No way I hell would I have paid $350 for just that handful of games. And if GCN games were remastered, I would only buy a few of them, but the promise of an app would make me subscribe instantly if I was given the hope that SSX Tricky and Time Splitters could potentially show up.

And I’m sure I’m not the only one. With 34 Million subscribers, they’re making good money.

Sounds like to me we are getting more of Nintendo using drip fed retro games to justify their lack clustered online service and less of making the games available to be purchased by those who want them.
