Square Enix has recently announced that the classic remasters of older Final Fantasy games known as the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series has now shifted over five million copies worldwide. The games are available in a bundle or are available to purchased individually on the Nintendo eShop and other online storefronts. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series covers the first Final Fantasy game to Final Fantasy 6.

It would’ve sold better globally if it had the widespread physical release at launch. Having this get physical releases only on their store (and a limited quantity of copies, mind you) and then only through Asian territories for the Switch version before having a general release years later is daft.
The limited distribution strategy before having the general physical release also led to the PS4 version having excessively high prices on reseller markets (thanks, scalpers!). At least values have been corrected for the most part now thanks to the widespread release, but it was a very stupid decision for Square Enix to make physical copies limited back in the day.
