The SNES Classics CRT filter has been updated on Nintendo Switch 2

If you’ve been indulging in the Super Nintendo Classics app on the Nintendo Switch 2 via Nintendo Switch Online then you might have noticed a new CRT filter option. The new CRT filter is the similar to the Nintendo 64 Classics and the GameCube Classics one on Nintendo Switch 2, but with an NTSC S-Video style filter, giving a more realistic representation of 90s gaming than the previous one. It seems likely that this new CRT filter will be updated on other Nintendo Classics apps on Nintendo Switch 2.

  1. It’s a pretty good filter, it not only has the subtle pixel variation per scanline but also imitates de curved distortion at the edges of the screen, the Gamecube app also uses the same filter, it’s crazy how they got ahead of the Dolphin emulator ok that front.

  2. It’s softer than I’d like if I’m comparing it the CRT’s I have including a 7” Sony, but that does cover up a slight bit of the ghosting, which is another issue. When they issue a better display and then sharpen the shader a bit, it might be decent for an official limited emulator app. Won’t sway anyone away from something like RA on an oled with bfi, naturally

  3. It’s incredible that the GameCube software and this filter were able to surpass the Dolphin emulator in this regard; the former features slight pixel fluctuation per scanline while the latter mimics the curved distortion at the screen’s boundaries.
