Miyamoto: Mario games will continue to explore Peach and Rosalina’s relationship

The legendary video game creator Shigeru Miyamoto has featured in an extensive interview with Nintendo Dream to talk about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. If you’re worried about spoilers then click away now as the film reveals that Princess Peach and Rosalina are sisters. Miyamoto said in the interview that future Mario games will explore this concept further and could flesh it out a bit more.

“Because we don’t know what kind of game we’ll make next with our characters, having too many character settings would become a constraint. I’m fine with being bound by the gameplay, but I don’t want to be bound by having created a story, which has been the reason for not making movies for many years.”

“So, before making this movie, I hadn’t decided on the character’s background, but now that I’m making the movie, it’s become fun to expand on the character in various ways. Therefore, I would like to adhere as much as possible to the settings created in the movie in future games.”

  1. If I had to guess, the original intention was to imply Rosalina was Peach’s daughter. But now that they want Peach to have platonic relationships, the next logical choice is making Rosalina her sister. They do look pretty similar, after all.

    1. Do you actually think Mario and Peach are just friends, or do you just not want Peach to be straight? “B-but Nintendo said-” and yet Peach kisses Mario in the end of Super Mario 64.

      1. I don’t know why you assumed what my personal opinion is when I’m just speculating about what Nintendo thinks. If you want to know what I think, you can just ask me.

  2. That would be cool if they plan to do this. But focusing on people’s family trees is way too much to keep track off like their ancestors or families. Its too much. Some people in life have ancestors and families but some people don’t and don’t know who they are. Some are orphans and adapted. Its true in real life

  3. If they wanted to give peach a younger sister/Luigi counterpart, it should have been Priich. Rosalina worked out better as being a vague descendent from some alternate timeline, gave more mystery to the character.

  4. I’m more interested in what they are going to do with the Star Fox IP like adding Fox to the mario kart world roster…smh.

  5. All the Bluesky freaks are peepee hurt they aren’t in a lesbian relationship because they said so and now to them Miyamoto is the infinite alphabet mafia “phobic” because of it.

    1. Blue Sky? The people who made ice age? What are you saying that Sid the sloth is involved in politics or something?

      1. Still the same troll. They just picked an alias now that we pointed out their M.O. of putting messages in the username.

        1. Darn it, I keep falling for that stupid ragebait! I will not reply to any more stupid comments from someone who is too scared to pick a name.

  6. Basically all this means is that Game Canon isn’t sacred anymore. Because a movie can come along and change things, solely to appease people who never played a Mario Game in their life.

Kinda like what Marvel keeps doing to the comics ever since the MCU came around.

    1. Yes. Agreed 1000%. I was afraid this would happen. A movie changes the entire game series. I hope this doesn’t happen to this or anything else. This is why I don’t watch most video game movies anymore and I why I tend to hate movie people/casual gamer that don’t play the games and then decide to pick up that game only to be disappointed it’s not like the movie. Smh

  7. Rosalina is supposed to be centuries old in the games though. Yes, I care about Mario’s lore. Sue me. This just wouldn’t work.

  8. Why does Nintendo changes the story around Rosalina? Just so that the movie and the games are in the same universe? This is so dumb beyond believe, because like that, you alienate all the fans that liked the game Peach and Rosalina over their movie versions. Just keep them seperate. I don’t want to see this bitchy version of Peach in the games. We have Daisy already.
