Dispatch on Nintendo Switch 2 gets censorship toned down but it’s still there

Nintendo Switch system owners were looking forward to Dispatch coming to the two consoles but when it arrived it was heavily censored provoking outcry from the community. Thankfully the censorship has now been toned down, thanks to a new free DLC pack. However, certain aspects of Dispatch on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 are still censored, so it’s been a compromise.

According to the studio, certain “hard requirements” from Nintendo remain in effect, so seeing genitalia outright is still not happening, and certain erotic audio effects won’t be heard.

The team at developer AdHoc has explained why the game was so heavily censored on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in the first place. Here’s what they had to say:

“Approaching launch and running out of time and resources, we were surprised to learn that our game would require some level of censoring in all regions, not just the few we were already planning for,. In a difficult spot, we decided to use a single Switch build that complied with Nintendo’s strictest regional rating. This led us to deliver a more censored version of Dispatch than Switch players were expecting.”

  1. It’s weird that this game was censored but all of the other hentai crap on the eshop is just untouched.

    1. I think it’s a full nudity thing. When I read into it it turned out Nintendo let’s even that slide (in reasonable circumstances) if you create a separate build from the JP version. Cyberpunk 2077 has a uh, a slider— and that’s just completely blocked out in the Japanese version. I don’t know too much about ofc but nsfw releases on Nintendo platforms are usually crazy risqué but don’t fully reveal things. And AI slop gets a pass blatantly marketing themselves the way they do for some reason, so who really knows about that? Lol

Imo the devs were too lazy to actually take the time to create a separate build that wasn’t censored, and when they saw people saying they wouldn’t buy the game on the platform (especially since this is the only place it’s censored) they rolled their eyes and put out a patch. The only thing is, the easier option would be to just change the censors ‘as a joke’… but ngl it really fell flat lol. Like this is a pretty embarassing excuse to try and riff on people actually annoyed they didn’t put the time in on a platform that does allow nudity in mature settings lmao. They could have made it work with a little bit of effort. I’m still gonna be skipping out on this game tbh. I’m pretty anti-censorship since ESRB ratings exist and all, y’know

  2. New Comment Approaching

The censorship is insane in the Switch Version and honestly not worth playing. Like I’m not buying it to see that stuff, you buy games to play them but you aren’t getting the full and real experience on Switch. There are Gamers of all Ages and we have ratings for a reason. If the wrong ages get a hold of a game not suited for them thats jot in Nintendo tho they always act like it is. Nintendo has had parental controls and options built into hardware since the Wii but still, many times throughout WiiU, 3DS, so on yave treated adult games like children. I dont like slop games but I think even porn games should be allowed. In the US, many platforms still wont allow adult porn games even though we have rating systems. Games are art and the creation of humans and should be allowed to be sold. Though again I don’t like scam slop but it the game actually has quality l, time, and care out into it then it should be allowed to exist. Tho The NSFW and porn industry has been being attacked forever now.

    1. If they had an option to hide those games on the eshop, I would be fine with them. But those games always flood the new releases section and it is so annoying to scroll to find games that are worth playing.

      1. They have hen-tie (I don’t know if that word would get filtered here) in the titles but I don’t think there’s actually nudity in them.

Strangely though, I remember the earlier days of the Switch and I was downloading any free demos and there was this noir detective game where the demo had nudity.

        1. I think I know what you were talking about. I was scrolling through the eshop once to find any retro puzzle games and I saw that and I was like “What is this?” then I watched the trailer and yep, it showed nudity. I didn’t even download the demo, I just clicked on the game to see what it was. I believe it was called metro something.
Nintendo is really weird with censorship, but the dev team for dispatch kept saying that nintendo didn’t force them to change it but never really specified who made them censor it.

      2. While they’re at it, they should just start filtering the AI slop nsfw games out of their submissions process lol. It’s always the same thing these days— so impossible to find anything good on the eshop without wading through all the garbage

  3. I actual enjoy some of the games from pakotime and 17studio. I will not buy a censored version of dispatch. I’ll avoid it like I did Tokyo mirage sessions.

    1. I’m still bummed out bc of that (idk too many details though) + I still can’t find a physical copy of that since it went out of print
