Circana, which tracks video game software and hardware across the United States, has said that the Nintendo Switch 2 ends its first year at nearly 6 million units sold. Nintendo’s latest system has sold over 5.9 million units in the United States alone and is now the second fastest-selling video game system. Circana also reports that the Nintendo Switch 2 was again the best-selling hardware platform in both units and dollars for May 2026.

I’m kind of hoping it won’t so that Take Two and Rockstar will finally learn a lesson about bloat in their games, but it definitely will. When Ubi does bloat, everyone whines, when Rockstar does it, everyone praises them. RDR2 was full of needless bull***t activities.
They probably made enough from the whales playing GTA Online so that they’re set for a while, though.

I got my Switch 2 on launch (yeah, I’m part of the problem, sue me), and during the first few months when it was just Mario Kart World and DK Bananza, I found it hard to justify having gone in on a SW2- I felt I could’ve waited, especially with how mediocre MK World felt, which I got through the bundle because like hell I was spending $80 on a game that a year later feels like it doesn’t even have $40 worth of content. Survival Kids- another game I bought on launch as I’m a fan of the Lost in Blue games that preceded it- (they’re technically the same series) didn’t help, as I feel like I was lied to about what the game entailed- it plays nothing like the LiB series or the original Game Boy Survival Kids. I’m still mad about that.
That was before the price of tech skyrocketed, now including the imminent price increase of the SW2 itself. Now I’m glad I got one when I did, and I’m encouraging others around me who have expressed interest in one to get it sooner rather than later. Feels like we’re on a dark path regarding the future of gaming right now.
