Nintendo Wii: Nintendo Acknowledges Wii Sales Decline

Satoru Iwata

Whilst the Nintendo Wii remains the best selling console of this generation it’s common knowledge that sales in recent times have been on the decline. Satoru Iwata has accepted this, and has issued a smaller target for the full year – only 20 million units compared to the previous 26 million forecast..

“Wii has stalled. We were unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool. We were unable to show a new game to become ‘the next thing.’ In the game market, once you’ve lost the momentum, it takes time to recover. With the price drop, sales returned to a certain level, but they just did not reach the level of last year around this time.”

dsi_ll

Nintendo revealed its next iteration of the Nintendo DSi titled the DSi LL at its press event in Tokyo today.

The newly announced portable gaming console features a 4.2″ screen and will be available for purchase in Japan, November 21st. The DSi LL will be available in Dark Brown, Wine Red and Natural White. It will also come pre-bundled with three DSiWare titles.

The redesign comes at the request of customers who said they wanted a larger screen, and the screen is a 93 percent increase over the DS Lite’s screen size — the number of pixels is the same, however. The DSi LL is geared for those who want to use their Nintendo handheld for internet and as a music player as the larger screen is able to display letters and characters in a bigger font.

Nintendo Wii: Miyamoto Talks Star Fox And Lack Of Sales

star_fox

Legendary games developer Shigeru Miyamoto recently sat down with MTV Multiplayer to discuss the beloved Star Fox franchise.

Whilst he readily admits he adores the series, Miyamoto can’t help but feel disappointed regarding the franchises sales of recent times.

“I tend to forget those games [laughs]. I’m a big fan of the Star Fox games. Every time we make a Star Fox game I’m hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do. Of course the goal every time is to try and make it more and more fun but, at least in Japan, the people that purchase the Star Fox games has decreased over the years. But we still try to make them more fun and hopefully people will see the appeal in those games.”

Nintendo: Strong Games Will Sell Well On Nintendo Consoles

ds+wii

Executive vice president of sales and marketing, Cammie Dunaway, firmly believes that strong software titles are all-important to Nintendo and will in turn equate to strong, healthy software sales.

“We believe that the pipeline for games for experienced gamers is getting to be very robust and will continue to be so. I think strong games will have strong sales, and one of the things too is that these games can have really long tails. That it’s not just a matter of looking at the first month of sales.”

“Nintendo is working with third parties to help them understand that it’s all about taking advantage of the unique interface and our hardware. I think as people are getting more comfortable with our technology, they are creating better and better games.”

Nintendo Wii: New Nintendo Game Will Shock You Says IGN

Nintendo_Logo_Wall

A journalist for popular online gaming site IGN has stated that a new unannounced title in development for the Nintendo Wii will literally blow you away once it’s been revealed.

An apparent IGN employee has been claiming he knows what the new Nintendo game is that is to be announced soon. Going by the name GodIsSatan on the IGN Boards he states that it is not a new Mario game referred to by Charles Martinet. This new game is rumored to be from an established franchise and not a new IP.

When he heard of the game it”shocked the hell” out of him and that the title certainly wasn’t expected. “Trust me at this point when I say there won’t be too many people out there who will be blown away when this one gets revealed. There is one interesting aspect to the title that hasn’t been fully revealed yet. The ultimate quality of this title may hinge on how well this aspect is executed.”
